The political climate in this country

United States

Lets talk about it. Look out there. It is scarey. You might as well say the Republican and Democratic party have declared war on each other and winner takes all. Our politicans (on both sides) have feed the flames. Grandstanding their little hearts out to get "their" people to get out and defend them and "attack" the other side. Republican politicans are trying to convience the public that the Democrats are "evil"...same for the Democrats..they want the public to think the Republicans are "evil". I see it in posts right here on mylot and in the general population at large. They want us to chose a side and fight like heck for it. Why? Well it is simple...power and control. Each side wants the American people fighting for "them" so they can have the power and control. We are pawns in their battle. To be used and manipulicated as they see fit to get what they want. They want you to buy into the US VS THEM. When in realty look at them...I mean take a good hard look at them. Not their party ideas or their stance on an issue..but as people..as professionals.. What do you see? Are they good people? Are they honest? Ethical? No. They are users. They are all in lobbyists pockets. they are all doing back door deals. They are all rich, power hungry, arrogant idiots. Yet we fall all over ourselves to defend them and attack the "other" side. We take glee when one from the "other" side get caught red handed in a scandel or dirty dealings...yet try to justify or defend someone from our "side" when they get caught doing the same thing. Why do we fall for this? Why are we fighting for them when we should be fighting for us..the American poeple..to have a decent government run by honest, ethical people? Why do we get all caught up in all this "party" BS? Anyone want to explain it to me?

This is going to be a hard question to answer without getting a lot of responses that say "this party does this and this and this" and "that party does that and that and that". I think that we need more parties to be represented in the primary debates, and that may create a more diverse atmosphere for everyone, instead of just limited to the two big parties.

what we need is for the people of this country to take a good hard look at the people they elected. Then vote them out and actively only vote for honest ethical people. Neither side as it stands now is going to "drain the swamp". They are all the swamp. We are going to have to drain it ourselves. Which means stop having blind party loyalties.

I don't know. I think many of them have lost sense of what they are in office for. We either have those whose arrogance know no bounds or we have those who want what they want without consideration for the people who voted for them. I just want NOT to be disappointed in who I voted for.

I agree and when they do things that should get them kicked out of office, they continue to be there. We'd be in jail for some of the things they get away with.

But why do we turn a blind eye to it? Why do we tolerate should horrible unethical snakes as the people who are making the BIG decisions in this country? And we wonder why we are in this mess? Look at who we all elected to congress in teh past 15 years.

It is only because WE the people let them get away with it. If we stood up to all those crooked jerks everytime they stepped a toe out of line they would either resign or shape up. They have badly and are unethical because we allow them to get away with it. face it...we don't run our government as it stands right now. Lobbyist and corporate america does. Want to change that? Stand up for yourself...even if it means cleaning house in your own party.

Because we are a nation that loves sports teams. We will categorize everything into the terms of a team. With high school sports we create these rivalries with the neighboring cities high school. With college sports we create rivalries with either other interstate colleges or neighboring state's colleges. With professional sports it is any team that plays with in your teams division. Same thing we have created team Democrats and team Republican, they even have mascots just like sports teams. We cheer for politicians just like we cheer for a sports player, and when they fail us we become angry at them and demand their benching.

What are the ideals of the Democrats and Republicans? If you ask ten people this question you would propably get ten different answers.

Not a smart way to run a country to me. While I can see people agreeing or support a party's "ideals". But look at our elected officials wihtin each party. They are a bunch of corrupt jerks. Few have a ethical bone in their bodies. So why do people defind those people are hard? We should be repulsed by them. I don't understand it. An unethical jerk is a unethical jerk...no matter what letter is beside their name.

You're right, the climate in this country is downright scary and I don't see much hope of it getting better anytime soon. I'm not ready to say that "every" politician is rotten, I honestly believe there are some decent men and women in government who really have their hearts in the right place. I'm also not going to blame everything about the mood in the country on the politicians. We have plenty of people from the media who feed off any kind of controversy or "conspiracy theory". They like to stir things up, which is a good thing to a certain extent but I'm talking about inciting violence. I KNOW we're responsible for our own actions and if someone commits an act of violence it's not directly the fault of someone on TV or the radio but when someone is ready to go over the edge all they need to do is turn on the TV or radio to get pushed the rest of the way. As for why we get caught up in all this "party BS", you sure got me! I seriously don't judge people by what party they're from. I know it's mostly Democrats that I support and I take A LOT of heat for that here, but it's not about the party, it's about the individuals and where they stand on the issues. I do have to say that lately the Republicans haven't been individuals, they've been speaking in one voice and I seriously doubt if most of them really care about what's best for the country or their constituents, their only goal is to bring the Democrats and especially the President down. I'm not defending the Democrats, some of them have really infuriated me especially lately, but I must say they haven't all banded together, far from it in fact. The "grandstanding" and the ugliness is what bothers me the most. Come on, guys, disagree with each other but at least respect one another on the House floor! All this talk about "armaggedon" and comparisons of a health care bill to 9/11 and Normandy is outrageous. All the Hitler references are too. Whatever happened to compromising and debating each other like grown-ups? I know I sound like a broken record but we need campaign finance reform in the WORST way and to ban corporate and special interest lobbyists. If not, even if most of the current members of Congress get kicked out in the next election they'll all show up next year as high-paid lobbyists to start working on whoever takes their place and the cycle will start all over again. As I said in my post they need to get a real job. Make them move back to the state that elected them for 5 years after they leave public office. It seems that the only time I see my elected representatives(State and County) is during the summer parades but then I can't talk to them. All I have seen of my federal representatives is when they appear on TV or when they stop in once a year in the county for 30 minutes.

In all honestly, I don't understand it. People just can't be civil anymore. I respect other's opinions, even if I disagree. I wish other's would do the same. People listen to the talking heads and think they need to get outraged. The facts aren't often correct, or, if they are, the news commentators twist them to fit their needs. This happens on both sides. I wish people would just be a bit more respectful of each other. Today's political climate is just sad. I remember standing outside Good Morning America on election day holding a sign supporting my candidate of choice. We were supposed to be in two separate groups, one for each side. The people from the other side came over and started hitting us with yard signs. We didn't even say anything bad about their party. :/

Maybe lets take on a dare with one another. Name three nice things about three democrats and name three nice things about three republicans. I am heading offline and won't be back until Thursday, but I will give it an honest look and thought if you agree to give it a whirl. We have to find six politicians, three of each major party, and fine something we approve of. Both of us. It will make for an interesting experiment.

This is actually a lot harder than I thought. I can only say who I think should switch teams, because I really don't support any of the republican agenda. And, while I oppose the religious right, I most certainly oppose the republicans because they manipulate the religious right and swing votes because they insert "god" or "abortion" or "sanctity of traditional marriage" whenever it is convenient in order to rally their majority of voters - the uneducated and the religious right. That said, the first I came up with is Eric Cantor. He is extremely intelligent, calculating and strategic. He seems to be able to stir people into action. Now, if he applied those attributes for good and not for evil, he could join the left wing.
