How do you mark your place?

Hey avid readers! So for those of you still reading the good old fashion paper books, how do you mark your place? Do you have a nice bookmark that you always use? Do you just find any old scrap of paper and use that? Are you a page folder?
I used to just memorize the page number I was on before I close the book, but of course that system didn't work out for very long. I've also grabbed random scrapes of paper and been a page folder in the past. Last year I got a really pretty durable bookmark for graduation, and I've been using it in every book I've read since.
How about you?

I admit it I'm a page folder. I have a 4 yeat and a 2 year old known for messing with my books causing that bookmark to fall out. Before having to worry about little hands I would either look around for scrap paper or fold the page.

Hello xasasa
Yes, it is the only way if you have childern messing with you books, or maybe you can use a paper clip instead.

I am ashamed to admit that I rarely mark my place. I usually turn the book upside down while it is open to my place. I know that this is bad for the book, and I read a lot, so I am very hard on books.

Yeah, I do that sometimes when I'm not going to be gone long, but I try to avoid it. It's fine on hardbacks (which are my favorite books), but it really tears up the spines on paperbacks. Thanks for your response!

I used to bend the corner but after a while It takes a toll on the book. I have used scrapes of paper too. Now I use narrow ribbon as a book marker. it works out pretty well for me. I can leave it on the page I'm on and it stays in the margin.

Hello ally; Wow, I have tried to memorize the page number as well, thinking, at the time, no problem but that failed rather quickly. I have a whole raft of book marks. When I grab a book to read, I often use one of them. This is if I am reading a novel. If I am in a book to use for educational or reference purposes I tend to use pieces of paper.
If I have a book handy that I begin to read and do not have a book mark with it, I too will use scraps of paper. I do not fold pages in books ever. If I am in a magazine and want to refer back to something I will dog ear the page, no problem.
The bookmark that you got last years sounds extremely useful. Durable is good.
Congratulations on your graduation! Cheers.

I use a 3 in. by 5 in. blank card with about 3/8 in. sticking out of the book or small format magazine(Science Fiction magazine). I have been using the same one for years and it has bent corners and the part that sticks out is smudged from all kinds of stuff. But it works well and does not damage to the book.

I LOVE to read. If I read a magazine then just flip it over and leave it on the page that I was reading. If I am reading a book then I acutally like to use a business card. It works great because if I'm starting a new page then I just place the bookmark sticking out the top but if I have to leave off on a certain spot like in the middle of a paragraph then I place the bookmark underlining sort of the sentence that I left off on so when I go to pick the book back up I wont have to skim down and find where it is that I left off. Now on occasion my son will get into my book and take my business card bookmark out and then I have to flip through the book trying to find where it was that I left off.

Hello allyotherain
I don't like fold my book. If I don't have any bookmark in hand, I might read to the number of pages that can be easily remember, like page 25, 30 or 50, something like that, or I will put a pen in between pages, or anything I can get nearby at the time I stop reading.

Hi,
I bookmark with used recharge coupons for my mobile. They are hard cards still don't damage the pages. I sometimes use small pictures that somehow relates to the book I am reading. Most of my readings are on my computer. I have a bookmark system here. I have a text editor where bookmark can be placed in any desired position. The bookmark can be found out later and text can be read aloud starting from that bookmark. I also use my travel tickets, ones that are small, as my bookmarks. Sometimes I just try to remember the page number.
God bless you

I used to flip the top of the corner of the page...it is a classic way..and that's why they say books that have been read a lot won't look good anymore..I'm proud to able to make my books like that..

Well, I don't always have a bookmark with me, I'm more of a slob. I usually mark my place in a book by folding the corners.
