a question to Christians : Is Jesus Christ the God of the Old Testament ? |
| |
| Christians think that Jesus Christ is God and pre-existed, that leads to a question. Following are some verses of the Bible where God is mentioned: Deuteronomy 20:16-17 16 - But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth: 17 - But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee: Deuteronomy 20:13 When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it. Hosea 13:16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up. as a Christian, do you Think that the word God in the above verses refers to Jesus ? | | | | | |

| | I am not a bible scholar and philosopher. My intelligence is too little compared to what the Bible's wisdom gives. I believe that Jesus Christ is present in the Old Testament and I know that He has no beginning and end. It may be that the name God or Lord is referring to Jesus while those GOD or LORD refers to the Father. I hope to learn more about it. | | | | | | |

| | God.. God the name and not the adjective, refers to just that... The spiritual being, Father of Christ. I find your choice in scripture that you have posted to be ironic as they are all scriptures most often quoted by atheists and other non-believers. | | | | | | |

| | I would like to answer yes to your question if Jesus Christ the God of the Old Testament. There is a concrete base in the scripture. In John 1:1-3, it is clear that Jesus is God since the beginning of creation. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. Also in 1 Peter 1:10-11, it is the spirit of Christ whom teaches the prophets during old testament. So it is possible also that it is Him referring to the verses you mentioned. | | | | | | |

| | No, those pieces in the old testament do not show Jesus, they show God. God is seen as a single, omnipotent entity that looks over everything at once, Jesus was a human that was born of God, giving him super-powers, but not actually making him God. One of the biggest differences between the two is that in the Old Testament, God has a wrath. God tells the people to go to war and kill eachother in Deuteronomy 20, which is extremely different then the words of Jesus, who wanted peace to be amongst all. The Old Testament is the Jewish holy book, where the New Testament is the Christian holy book, and the Jewish people don't even believe that Jesus was the son of God, because his directions were so different from what their holy book says he is. This is why the Jewish people crucified Jesus, because it was the biggest possible sin for a man to call himself the son of God. | | | | | | |

| | In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Matthew 1:1. The right interpretation is "In the beginning God gave his word; God kept his word; and He came to abide amongst us as His own Son." | | | |

| | Pretty sure that most Christians refer to Jesus as the Son of God and not God. | | | | | | |

| | Jesus Christ was not God. He had in him only God's essence. God is the pure Spirit. Is it possible to change spirit back to grape juice? In the same way, Spirit cannot become soul again. Jesus was the extract of Abraham's descendants. During last supper, he conveyed this message to his disciples. He took bread and wine and compared his body to bread and wine. He was telling them that he body is made the way bread is made and blood is made the way wine is made. His ancestors like grain were crushed and kneaded in the desert for forty years. Their bodies were baked in desert. They were crushed like grapes in slavery and they had fermented in desert, which had changed his soul into wine. Only after his soul boiled in passions on cross he had changed into Holy Spirit. Those who think that Jesus Christ was God of the Old Testament are in error. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Gordano, The God of the old Testament is very different from Jesus Christ. The Scriptures you quote here are good examples of why no one should take the Bible literally.I would never believe in or follow a God that asks someone to commit genocide, it would be just as will to follow Hitler. The teachings of Jesus are far better, in fact just the opposite of this. There were a few people in the old testament who caught a glimpse of the truth but the teachings of Jesus as found in the Gospels are among the best the world has ever seen. Blessings. | | | | | | |

| | i think Jesus is often referred to as son of god rather than god in the bible......also these are gospels which have been compiled by some people at the birth of Christianity to highlight the divinity of jesus so as to form a solid base and get more people to move towards or join christianity.... I feel Jesus was a great man with a lot of vision at that time and he did a lot of good but he was mortal....not god.....just my thoughts :-) | | | | | | |
