| dear mylotters, this friend has been a schoolmate in my elementary years. she finished high school and was married early, had children and became a widow. now all her children have moved out of her house because they all got married already. she only have a maid helper with her as her companion in the house. she is thinking of going back to school.. get a college degree. she is confused on her choice of what to do. she thinks it is very late now to think about college because of her age. but if she start a business, she might not be able to manage a small business well because she only finished that much schooling. what do you think? is it wise to go back to school at her age? ann | | | | | |

| | The prof is right. If only I have enough money to spend for 4 years I will take another course of what I wanted and I know that I will enjoy it. I knew some people who took only their courses because they parents wants them too and after working and earned enough money they study new course and change they career to the one they like to be most. | | | |

| | No one is old to learn. If her purpose of going back to college is to equip herself with the necessary knowledge on managing a business, I think she need not go to a normal college class but instead opt for specialized short courses being offered. There are also online classes available but these online classes require discipline on the part of the student since some tend to not take online classes seriously. | | | | | | |

| | Hi tigeraunt, There is never to late to learn or study. As long as we want to do it, just do it. There are a lot of people doing that even though they were pass their peak productivity ages. There is nothing to lose to know something new. It is more important because she want to do some business. And she need to know at least who to manage her business and if she want to employ someone else work for her, she need to know the rules and regulation that might come with it beside the tasking and functional aspects. | | | | | | |

| | ...Hi there tigeraunt, I for one love school, I love to learn. I think it is one of the greatest things you can do to keep your mind active. The old saying "if you don't use it, you lose it" is true. Your brain cells become dormant in a way if you don't stimulate them. Try taking an exam after being away from studying for a long time, you will shock yourself. If she wants to start a business, she does not have to get a college degree, she can take classes related to business, how to run a business, the tools needed to succeed, things related to being successful in running or establishing a business. She should talk to a counselor about her choices. But as far as obtaining more education, as long as you are breathing and have the desire, learning is very good for you as far as I am concerned. Take care. | | | | | | |

| | One of my cousins is about 50 years old and he has decided that he want to go back to school. He wants to become a teacher, but before he can start, and has to graduate high school. He goes to a special high school where the students are aduls and he is determined to finish highschool, so that he can become a teacher. He hasn't been easy for him to study after so many years, but he wants to follow his dream. I think that is great, and in my opinion he isn't too old to study. Your friend is about the same age, and I don't think it is old late for her either. It might be hard to study again after som many years, but on the other hand people who are older than the average student also have some advantages, because they have more experience than a young student. | | | | | | |

| | hi tigeraunt, I might say that there is no age in learning as long as your heart is into it. I happen to know a certain woman who goes to school at the age of 51 and graduated with honors at 55. And from that, I know that age is not a hindrance to learn and to reach for your goal. ^_^ | | | | | | |

| | I think it's not too late. The mother of my friend earned her degree when she was 50. She was working at the municipal hall and could not get promotion so she pursue her studies and finished. | | | | | | |

| | It is never too late to go back to school! My Uncle is 87 and teaches college math, he and my father not only attend lectures at different colleges but both take classes in what ever interests them. The each have several degrees and a doctorate each. I too go to classes when ever I have the money and I love to learn new things. They are not always college courses but I love to learn about old fashioned ways and ancient medicines so I go to a lot of classes on herbal treatments and uses. As for business school that is a great thing to do. There are many 2 year degrees that she can get as well as some commercial art classes that would be great. (why the arts because then you do not need to hire someone to make you website or do your brochures) and I think not only is it not too late but it is most likely the best idea before jumping into owning your own business. | | | | | | |
