| I received an email, supposedly from Microsoft, telling me that my account is scheduled for termination and if I want to keep using this account, I am to give them my username, password, date of birth, etc., or they will terminate my account within 48 hours. Now, I have to tell you, I have my suspicions that this is a fraudulent email. The email address where this email originated is..... are you ready??? "spreadlove_hotgirl22 @ hotmail . com" I'm wondering if they think we're that stupid or if it's them who are that stupid. What do you think? Have you received an email as obviously fake as this? If so, what did you do with it? I reported it as fraud. I'm never content to just delete these phishing emails. I want to do all I can to ensure that these morons are caught and prosecuted. How do you handle them? | | | | | |

| | mentalward You and I know a lot of those are scams, but sometimes I wonder just how much grey stuff these things have (notice I did not call them people) They think you are so stupid you will do what they want, but then you look at what they have asked and we all know who the stupid one is. Now of the sender was offering employment that might be of interest, Id ask for some samples to try, ha ha ha. HICCUP/ | | | | | | |

| | I keep getting dodgey emails from someone pretending to be Ebay and threatening to close my account down if I don't give them all my details. Luckily enough I spotted in the beginning that the email didn't look genuine and sent it off to Ebay for them to verify. But it doesn't stop them and they keep coming and getting more and more threatening each time. It's a bit worrying really, I just have to keep my guard up. | | | | | | |

| | Hi lindspowers. You are doing the smartest thing, sending it to the official site for verification. I always tell them that I am sending it for verification but also sending it to the International Fraud Unit, just to be sure, you understand. I HOPE it scares enough of these idiots into at least slowing down their scamming efforts for a little while. | | | |

| | Good point I should send it to them aswell, as they just keep on coming. Ebay doesn't seem to be able to stop them. The trouble is aswell is that i don't want to reply to them and mark them as a safe sender as this might make it easier for them to come through in the future. Do you think I am being overly worried? | | | |

| | Hey linds, I used to get those same emails from people pretending to be from ebay and there is an address I used to forward these to and ebay would research and let me know if it was a spoof. If you go directly to ebay, they will tell yoy where to send it. Sorry I can remember. Leenie | | | |

| | That's ok, I did get an email of Ebay where you can send the spoof emails to. So I do do that and they confirm that it is fake, but it doesn't seem to stop them. I've just had another one tonight saying that my account has been suspended, so they just keep on coming. Hopefully they will give up in the end. | | | |

| | It is sad, alot of people, that are not real familiar with the internet will probably do it. I am glad you report it, I would too for something like that. I do not report all the stupid ones, that say you have inherited 500,000 dollars from some other country. That is all I would get done doing. | | | | | | |

| | I report them all as phishing scams but the worst ones I'll go the extra mile with. The ones that claim they're from the FBI, UPS, Paypal, etc., I report to the corresponding (legitimate) website. If they use a hotmail or yahoo email address (always a dead giveaway), I report them to the servers as well. At the very least, I'm hoping those accounts will be closed. Of course, they'll just open a new one unless their IP address has been banned. | | | |

| | Hi Neil. My computer is fully protected against viruses and other nasties so I'm not really concerned about that. My husband does work for Homeland Security at times so he's made sure that we have more than enough protection. I've received emails from all those places, too. The more recent ones sometimes say they are coming from our own FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation)! The funniest part about them is that so many words are often misspelled and they have very poor grammar and punctuation. It's sad to know that some people do fall for these things, though. There are plenty of warnings all over the internet about these types of emails but not everyone knows enough to make sure that they are fake before sending the information asked for. It only takes a little knowledge to see how fake these things are but there are people out there who are way too trusting (or gullible as my sons would put it) and believe everything they read. That's why I always report them. It may do no good whatsoever but if I can slow down just one of these thieves I believe my efforts are worth the trouble. | | | |

| | i guess i can say that this laptop is fully protected too. but i do not open and read mails that come in to the spam folders. they are suspicious and i feel more secured if i don't open them. i really never reported any but i think, i will report one if i find it very necessary to do so. | | | |

| | I will report things like that if possible. I don't get stuff like that in my regular email that I use for family, friends and business because I don't put that address anywhere on the net. Mostly it comes to my mail.com account. Sadly enough, lots of people are trusting. My 87 yr old mother is constantly getting viruses on her computer because when something pops up warning her that she has a virus she clicks on it because it looks like Microsoft crap. We tell her and tell her but she just doesn't get it. I think she and others like her and who falls for these things. Thank God, the only pop-ups or emails she won't respond to are the fake ones from a bank, IRS or those claiming she's won money. | | | | | | |

| | I completely understand about your mother, dragon. I had to warn my mother many times about these emails. She was good about not responding to them, at least until her brain was beginning to be affected by cancer. Luckily (I think), the cancer spread so fast in her brain that she was unable to even remember her computer after only a week or two once her brain was affected. But I feel so bad for all the elderly people who do fall for these things and end up losing a lot of money or have their identities stolen. I also feel bad for those without the brains to see through these scams but not as much as I do for the elderly. My efforts at reporting these creatures may not do any good but I'm still hoping it does, even a tiny bit. | | | |

| | Well, I did report it to Microsoft but Yahoo had nothing to do with this particular email. I will report it to Yahoo if they use a Yahoo email address, though. When they say they are coming from UPS, Paypal or the FBI, I forward those emails to the appropriate companies so they can be informed of the scam. There is an International Fraud Unit (I believe it's part of the U.S. Secret Service, at least in this country) and I have forwarded some of them there. Wherever these emails claim to originate, that's where I forward them. I hope they all end up in prison one day. They deserve nothing less. | | | |
