Profiles lacking crucial Information, are you bothered?  

I only have one problem with that, The site is honest, but how do you know all of the people that may visit your page are? I had to delete my old account because of a stalker, he even knew what town I lived in and where I was because he had an IP tracker on his profile page, he knew my exact address. So its visitor beware.

Barehugs are you aware that there are Lotters with profiles stating that they are females but their activity is that of a male and vice-versa? Anyone can enter anything in their profile data and until they are caught they get away with it.

Can you imagine wearing a blindfold while being introduced to someone. How would you begin a conversation? You don't know his/her age, or where he/she resides! Is he/she a male with a high pitched voice, or a female with a bad cold?

The information in the profile states 'location' and not 'nationality. The two are different but many misinterpret that information.

My location is correct and is Italy. Does that automatically make me Italian?

Of course its the choice of the mylotter. But without the personal facts this Poster will not get the same number of responses he/she would have received if he/she had provided the appropriate profile information.

Yes, that's exactly my point also. I believe its only fair (and polite) to introduce yourself when you come into the company of others!

Our profiles show the location of the user not the origin

Very interesting discussion. I put everything down on my profile that is truthful. Why not? I am me. I like me and hopefully you will also. And as mentioned, if I am full of it, my responses will certainly bear out the truth!

Why I check out profiles for the main is so that I can give a response that will make sense to the author. (may be redundant , think I told this to someone already). If I am advising a young person it will not be with same terminology I use with a professional!

I am me. I like me and hopefully you will also. - great line, richnai! it reminds of the title of a book, "i'm ok, you're ok." sometimes, in the online world, it becomes "i am me, i don't like me, so i will assume a different identity here so you will like me."

My concern is not about rules. Its about being fair and friendly! How can anyone ask for a response to their Post if they are hiding their identity?

i agree to your response barehugs!!! i mean, why do these people be hiding their identity? well, people have the right to hide their identity but this is not fair to others....

When you are responding to a teenager your answer will be different than if you were responding to a senior. Same if its a male, of female poster. When these facts are hidden it just puts me off. I for one just won't bother! This will definitely cost the newbie money.

i only do that if it has some bearing on the discussion. otherwise, i don't. like just today, i joined a discussion about summer. since it's already summer where i am, i had to clarify that first but still answer the question. so it's really a case to case basis. of course, it's still your choice who you respond to. i don't mind the extra effort. even with a blank profile, you can also get clues from the activity, discussion started, photos, etc.

Why? They will not earn for your response. They only earn for what they type like everyone else.

Gender, age, and country of origin can hardly be classified information. There are at least 205 million people living in the US. Gender is split, and age can be anywhere between 16 and 106. Now come-on! How paranoid can you get?

We think the same way here! Age, gender, and country of origin and necessities when answering a Post. The responder needs an idea of the cultural background on which to base his response. A teenager girl from China will not grasp the significance of the response if its directed to a senior male from Greece.

So a user who states their location as China is what? Chinese? Why? They might have been there when they registered but could have been born anywhere at all.

There are many youngsters here who have placed their age as older and older people who pose as younger and that shows in their posts if we take the time to put the two things together.

Profile information is not always what it appears to be at first glance and location is not the same as origin.

If there is no data on the profile, I'll read some of the persons posts, or responses. Usually they mention their spouse which will tell their gender. This is the hard way to do it, but it works.
