doing things with the wrong hand

hi doormouse no not really as I am ambidexterous but since three years ago I had a fractured left shoulder so had to have a shoulder joint replacement, and now I cannot lift my arm up very far at all. So I can not even use my left hand to comb hair or brush it, and I so miss that as I did use my left hand for every thing but writing I type with both hands, and that at least keeps my left hand supple but wish I could get back full movement of my left arm. before the fall I was always using my left hand all the time.I used to drink coffee with my left hand,now I can only help hold the cup with my left hand. sob sob.

Really is a bad news and and good news that you have experience in both hands.I pray god that you may be get well soon.

I've never had an incident which deprived me the use of my right hand temporarily, but I can imagine what you feel. Sometimes I try writing with my left hand, and boy, is my penmanship crappy! And using the mouse with my left hand is just perfectly hard.

Maybe you can think of this as an opportunity to learn how to be ambidextrous. Good luck and get well!

Being a left hander brought up in a world made for right handed people, and going to school before there were left handed scissors etc., I had no choice but to use my 'wrong' hand. I now do most things right or left handed, except writing which I can't do right handed.

I have not had to use my other hand. I do write with it on purpose when my daughter and I are playing around. I would not dare want to go through what your going through. I would not hold anything too hot in my hand either. I would be afraid of dropping it.

Yeah I was doing that for a while, kept forgetting until I got used to it. How did the cortisone help?

Yes this is hard to do. I have never injured my right hand and had to use my left for toilet duties, that would be hard! My wife tried using her opposite hand when our kids were learning to see what it was like to learn to wipe yourself and she said it was very difficult.

When I travelled to the USA and lived there I had to drive on the opposite side of the car which meant changing gears with my right hand instead of my left. That was really awkward. Also I was a smoker then and had trouble flicking the ash out of the car with my left hand while driving without making a big mess inside the car!

Not really. We tend to adapt to the circumsstances and make the best out of it.

I have lost about half the dexterity of my right hand. I know what needs to be done, but it seems that the connection to the right hand and fingers seems to be very bad. Many times my right hand simply did not move.

I am now forced to use the left hand to use the mouse. The keys normally assigned to the right hand tend to be pressed by the left hand fingers.

As for driving there were near misses when my right hand refused to turn the steering wheel when the left hand was on the gear stick.

Currently I am trying to alleviate the situation, but I think it is going to take a long time.

Sorry to hear about what happened to you. You are right
from it it is so hard to do things which you are not used
to in your life. Just take care always in doing the wrong
hand I know after a long time you will be healed. Just sacrifice
a little and take all the medicine for that so that you will
get easily well. Try to adapt it because it is need for a moment
after that trials you can overcome and back to normal right
hand use. Since that is the situation learned how to use it
then afterwards you learn both how to use it.
