Today is an auspicious day

India

Today is ‘Akshya trutita’, a festival for Hindus. As per our tradition I sent earthen pitch full with water, one fan made from bamboo leaves, some watery fruits like water melon, cucumber, some sweets to homes of my relatives and friends in the locality. My daughter is 50 kms away, son is far away with their kids, and it is not possible to send these to them, so I had sent some money to them as taught by my parents. Actually at this time of the day, the weather is too hot. So these things are sent as a token of care and love for them. Some distribute sweetened curd drinks, ripe mangoes. It is so good. Any thing similar that you follow or know, please share. Happy posting, cheers, have a great day. Prof

I read that India is a country with rich tradition and many festivals. It is good that you are still following your country's festivals and traditions. This is something new to me and have not heard of the festival you mentioned here. The only Indian festival that is being celebrated in grand scale here is Deepavali.

hi professor I am in the US and in the state of California, no we do not really have anything quite comparable unless you might compare our Fourht of July celebration of our Independence. this day is special to all Americans and we have fire works at night, picnics all day with lots of ripe watermelon and hot dogs and ice cream, a family day for sure. Of course Easter is also special as we who are Christians celebrate the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ with church going and special foods like Easter eggs and candy, and Hot c ross buns. A truly religious holiday with family gathering and sunrise worships.

Hi Prof, Although, I don't celebrate this day which you called so auspicious day but have heard a lot about it. Akshaya Tritiya is one occasion, which is considered one of the most auspicious days of the Vedic Calendar and I agree and also very happy that you have send so many things to your kids. You are such a nice human being and love your kids so much. I am very much impressed with you and your thoughts towards your kids. May God bless you. Thanks.

Hi professor, yes, we also have similar system of making "Dana" during 'Akshya trutita’ as we belong to same country, our customs and festivals are same. Have you purchased anything on the auspicious 'Akshya trutita’?
