My cousin is a teacher in the Indian schools in Montana and has been for many years, her hobby is riding her horses. She is now close to 60 and is still riding horses, this would be ok but she competes in a horse event which is very dangerous, I'm not sure what it is called, but two riders chase a calf at full speed un til one jumps off and knocks the calf down tying it's feet. True some years ago she gave up jumping off her horse and is just a chaser, but over the week-end something went wrong and my cousin was thrown off her horse, she broke her back and her neck, her leg and her shoulder. She is in very werious condition and it's just luck that she has not ended up like Christpher Reed, unable to move from her neck down. So she feels very blessed. I would like to ask those of you who join in prayer to help people to include her in your prayers, her name is Ilene and she needs all the help she can get. Thank you.

We often don't realize that we are getting too old to take chances like that. I've been guilty of that myself but so far haven't suffered serious injury--I'm more careful now. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to help your cousin Ilene. I have said a prayer for her and will do so again. May God help her heal quickly and completely recover her health.

Wow, I'm glad it wasn't worse. I guess I can understand that she didn't want to give up something she loves. Really, it could just as easily have happened to a younger person...

As a fellow horse lover, I will certainly keep her in my prayers. It sounds as though she does calf roping and that is certainly a big hobby. However, I doubt that her age had anything to do with it as it could happen to anyone. Be glad that she is not injured worse and be thankful that she is still active! I will ask for prayers for her continued recovery!

Hi savypat, I'm sorry to hear of your cousin's accident but happy that it's no worse. The very fact that she feels blessed shows that she has a positive attitude which will certainly help her. I'm not sure that age is a big factor here as it could have happened to a young person just as easily. I have already sent positive thoughts her way and will continue to do so. Blessings.

Oh Boy! That is horrible. I think that she should have not been riding at that age. When we get older it's harder for us to move around quickly. She is very lucky that she is not paralyzed. I hope she gets better real soon and stays active. Hopefully she will not be riding horses anymore. I know that it could happen to anyone at any age, but it is dangerous the way you explained it.

As we age we need to accept what we can do and not do. As I age I no longer try to keep up with my 25 yr old son who is in peak physical shape. You can still enjoy the activities of the younger people but you have to do it in a different way. My prayers are with her.

As you have said, Ilene is blessed not to be paralyzed. I will pray for her. It sounds as if your whole family is very durable stock. I think the event is called team roping.

You are quite right that she is quite fortunate that she may be quite banged up but in better shape than others who've had similar injuries from a horse or other accidents. I hope she has a speedy recovery and realizes that it's not a good idea to compete in that competition anymore.

Oh my...I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes the things we love the most can hurt us the most. I hope she gets better soon. I bet she will jump right back on the back of that horse though. My grandmother broke her arm riding a go cart when she was around 60. She could not resist playing with the children in the neighborhood and wanted to ride their new go cart. She wrecked the darn thing and ended up with a broke arm and the bill to fix their go cart. I'll be praying and sending well wishes.

I will definitely keep Ilene in my prays. I love horses and love to ride but they are so dangerous. A lady was riding a horse up and down my street and ended up being thrown. She was riding bare back. She was lucking she only hurt her leg. I hope and pray your cousin will be blessed and be back to good health.

i'm sorry to hear about her accident but I got to say that I admire her a lot. Before her accident your cousin might have in a better physical condition than me (i'm 28). My lifestyle is so sedentary that I find myself out of breath when I go up 3 flights of stairs. I hope your cousin gets better faster.

Oh i am sorry that happened to her. I hope she will recover soon. At least, that would be an eye opener to her now. Maybe she will take it seriously that she's already old and should have been so careful not to have any injury lest it will endanger her mobilization forever.
