It's got me spooked, we have had so many wild visitors this year. A cougar, a bear,
a lynx and the usual foxes, raccoons and opossums. I went out to the mail box and something was up in a tree across the road, I didn't see what it was just heard the branch break when it jumped out of the tree. Pretty soon my heart was racing and I lost no time getting back in my car and stepping on the gas, I don't know what it was but I did know I didn't want to meet it out on the deserted road by myself.

Better call the exterminators just to make sure. You'll never know when these will attack your home. You don't know how smart these things are. They might be plotting a fail-proof plan on taking over your fridge.

Just don't run if you see or hear a cougar or a lynx or bear. To them, it signals that you're prey and they will run after you. Walk slowly away until you can get in a car or building.
I wonder, too, if it has to do with the weather. My daughter who is a photographer, stopped alongside a road in the foothills to take a picture and heard a low growl but couldn't see anything. She wasn't too far from the car so she backed up until she could jump in. She never did see anything but it was probably a cougar.

In such situation I would have run for my life. No wild visitors dared to come out in the open as many of their relatives have ended up in cooking pots. The jungle is almost extinct of jungle habitats as hunters keep gunning them down even with the strict laws against killing these endangered species, they care less.

Well, I can say that in our area we haven't seen any wild animals except for those that we are used to seeing. That means that there have been plenty of possums and a few raccoons. There have also been occasional skunks, but that is about it around here. Of course now that winter is coming, the mice are starting to show up as well.
I imagine it would be pretty scary to know that there was a wild animal around but to not know what kind of animal it was.

Sorry that you're dealing with this. We've had lots of field mice in our house recently. It's really gross, and as much as I love animals and want to save them, I don't want them in my house! I usually end up letting my cats get them. I don't have any traps, and traps would just kill them anyways. My mom always wants to let them outside to save them and let them roam free, but then they'll just end up coming back into the house! So really, all you can do is kill them unfortunately. We've also had raccoons and bears around here. There was also a fox in my yard once. We used to live in the country more and were surrounded by coyotes. Those things are vicious!

Well, that sounds pretty upsetting. I would not want to know what kind of animal it was. With all that wildlife in your area, who would want to be out alone without a weapon. I know I wouldn't. Be careful. Is there anyone you can call about this or it is what it is? Well, stay safe.

Do you think that they are short of food this year? I am not surprised that you did the wisest thing by getting in the car and leaving. It is not wise to be out and about unless you watch your surroundings.

I think that would have freaked me out. My book shed which serves as a warehouse is about a two block walk from the house. Sometimes I have to go after a book at night after dark to process for the next day. I always take a flashlight, and both sheds have their own motion lights, but sometimes I wonder if I should take the car because cougars have been around this area and there are numerous trees around the shed and many other places to hide. We also have a lot of deer that a cougar might want to hunt. The possums, raccoons, deer, and skunks leave if they see me (except for the skunks). I'm not sure a lion or coyote would do that.
