The End of Summer

Our weather changed a few days ago and we went from wearing Tshirts and swimming in the river to wearing long johns and shivering in just 24 hours. In the daytime it does warm up but summer has definitely been and gone. Bearing in mind that it's the end of October, I should not be complaining, but it's still a shame.
The biggest shame of all is knowing that the last of the fruit and most of the veggies need using up from the garden as they won't last now. I've been harvesting bowls and bowls of strawberries all through the summer months and we've been snacking on them whenever we pass. It will be such a shame to lose that pleasure. I've been enjoying ripe tomatoes still warm from the vine too.
I'm resigned to wearing my second pair of socks for the rest of the year and to dark evenings and frosty mornings, but the lack of strawberries makes me feel quite bereft.
What signals the end of summer for you? What do you miss most?

I must be honest. I prefer fall/ autumn and spring. In the summer it is a little too hot. The only thing I miss is not having to wear so many layers. In the fall there is hockey and Football. And the change of the leaves on the trees. Even though I lost my mom and my dad in the fall, I still love it.

My birthday is in the winter. So I'm always worried if my day will be snowed out . Now down here " Snowed out would mean 2 inches! Everything stops and closes. yes I prefer spring and fall!

What signals the end of summer for me usually is Labor Day. I always get depressed when that weekend comes around. Although I like winter to a point, I cannot deal with it. I wouldn't mind like a month of winter only. That way we could enjoy the rest of the year. It would be great if winter were from the middle of December to the middle of January. Then spring. How great would that be.

It's been cold here too!
There was a cold front the past couple of days, and I resorted to starting up our heater. I only opened up one at the bottom of the stairs, as it tends to heat up the rest of the house (upstairs), but this act definitely signals the end of summer for me.

You are at the end of summer, but we are in late autumn and another winter is at hand. However, over here the weather stays fine all the time with the air temperature at about 22 degrees centigrate. Down the ages, at this time of the year,we call it fine warm weather in the tenth lunar month.

On the 8th of November,we have got into the Beginning of Winter-one of the 24 divisions of the solar year in the traditional Chinese calendar. The next one is Lesser Snow.

this is the cutest thing!!
most people are worried about the cold, flu, oil or gas bills, getting up in the dark, coming home in the dark, etc etc.. and you feel lost without your strawberries!
that is the sweetest thing! :)

Just mentioning the word strawberries makes me wan't to go to the nearest supermarket to buy pack for myself if only it's not almost 12 midnight here. Summer ends between May and June here in the Philippines. We only have 2 seasons so we never felt the chills that you probably are feeling during winter. Lucky for you though, you can raise strawberries on your back yard but here, there's only one area where strawberries grow. It's the summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio City.

For me it is when the weather starts getting nippy, and I have to change from my sandals into my hiking boots. I'd wear my sandals all year long if it was warm enough. They are soo comfortable. I hate cold weather. It snowed here a little bit; not enough to cause any real trouble, just enough to frost everything white.

Same as you, eating something fresh off the vine.
Not to mention the warmth of the sun.
You're lucky you still have strawberries. We have such a short season for them. But my raspberries are "ever-bearing" so I get two crops a year. There's still a couple waiting for me to pick and eat them.
