What have you been asked to bring to the Thanksgiving meal?

I've been asked to bring cole slaw. I'm going to have to learn how to make cole slaw salad dressing. I went into sticker shock. It was absolutely horrible! Small bottles for $3.99 each. I need two of them for my big cole slaw salad.
I also am bringing corn bread and diabetic cookies.
So what are you bringing? Did you get sticker shock from any of the different items that you saw while shopping?

I am constantly getting sticker shock. Everytime I go to the store it seems that everything has went up. I think we are going out to eat this year. I won't be in a group this year. My daughter is going with the b/f's family and it is just going to be the three of us. I think I might do a dessert to enjoy at home and have dinner out.

Did it go as planned and did you enjoy yourself? Enjoying yourselves and spending time with family are the most important things.

I guess you can say I am bringing everything because it is here and I am cooking. Though if my husband wants homemade stuffing, he will make that and I am going to see if my son will make homemade rolls, everything else I am making./.

No, my oldest son went to bed so I ended taking most of the day making the rolls...It wasn't our usual dinner, but after all we had going on, I guess you could say we had a good time..

You surprise me...I thought that you would make the dressing for the cole slaw...I am sure the ingredients would add up to only the price of one pre-made!
Yes....I did a discussion at our Thanksgiving (a month ago) about the price of Pumpkin..pie filling! And everything I read, we'd better be prepared for more shocks! Happy Thanksgiving...enjoy!

I bought the stuff and it was bitter! I had to add brown sugar, dry mustard, ginger, black pepper, and a little salt until is stopped tasting bitter. I think next year I will make my own.

I know! That stuff can get expensive! My family we all brought things...but it was a chore as some of lived farther away and it was hard to bring something cold and reheating once here just took time. I stopped it when I started having the family functions and did it all... The my brother got into cooking and he always wanted to bring the turkey or ham, but he lived an hour away! But he did it. yeah it was cold when he got it here, but we reheated it. He just liked doing it!
But a tip...plan ahead....decide what you are going to bring a month ahead of the function and then watch sales to get the non parishable ingredients..the little bottles nad things like that..watch for them to be on sale and use coupons.

My husband gave me money 3 days before Thanksgiving and we had a snow storm during one of those days. So I knew a month in advance, but it didn't do me much good. Didn't see any coupons for cole slaw dressing.
I only have 4 half days of substitute teaching for the entire month of November.

I used to always bring my banana pudding. Now I either buy it or I don't get it. My daughter usually cooks. Not much family left. Just my daughter and her two kids.

I am making most of it. I will be doing the turkey this evening and putting it in the slow cooker in the morning. My DIL is bringing the mashed potatoes....my sister the rolls and fruit salad. The rest I am doing. Picked up my pies this afternoon. I have a friend that makes them for extra income. She is such a good baker!

I get the honor of cooking the entire meal. Yes prices are really high this year even the turkeys were really high priced. I am making Turkey, ham, lasagnia, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, corn, green beans, homemade gravy, yeast rolls, pumpkin pie, lemon merengue pie, and pecan pie. I have to get up around 5:00 AM tomorrow morning to start cooking, today I am cleaning. Have a good time at your celebration.

I was asked to bring an appetized. I said I could make some pumpkin bread. The last few years I have and alot of my family enjoys it. I am going to my oldest nephew's home tomorrow. He said pumpkin bread would be great. I know my older brother and his wife are bringing dessert and my younger brother and his wife are bring a vegetable tray. So it should be a great meal with the turkey and the trimmings.
