I used to give to these same charities when I worked and had plenty of money. Salvation army, Saint Vincent de paul, and American cancer societies of all kinds. Now I have bills up the yeng yang even with copays from insurance PLUS, im in whats called the donut hole with my medications. which means, pay full price
for them which is extreme amounts. Ive been calling around to try and get help, but of course none has been able to so far. a couple places said they'd call back. but you know how that is. Wheres all that medical help we are supposed to get?

try the churches-most of them have food pantries for the public needy.
help with food might at least leave more money for medical if help can't be found for that.

We've had to do that too and go to the pantry when we need to. It's embarassing but going hungry is worse. I will say too I've had to live poor when I was in my late teens/young adult, then I had a good job for several years, then ended up at home with the kids and things just compounded and compunded we had no other options.

That is exactly the reason why I don't give money anymore.
The money is not used for us if we need it, but for (so called) research. To my opinion it's a waste of all that money since research can be done with other countries as well. Why does everybody wants to waste so much money in working alone inventing the wheel?

You are talkilng about Obamacare, well they are putting more things that have to be paid by this free insurance other then basic. And everyone has to be ionsured so now they are going to ration care. Now more companies are not insuring their workers, and these employees are either laid off or have to pay the insurance themselvse. It sounds very confusing.

They should have the same sort of system they have up here in Canada. They just do government insurance for the basic stuff like you share a hospital room with about four other people, you get your basic care, but above that you have to pay for the rest.

I know that feeling. I always helped my kids before. In this last year ive had to ask them for help. Ive also had to apply for food benifits. Something i hadnt had to do since my 2 kids were still at home. That was many years ago. Im very thankful i dont have to take meds. I just want to be fully self supporting again.

What I hate is being told by my doctor that I won't have to pay for something and then finding even part of it on a bill I wasn't supposed to get. If I had known I would have had to pay for it I wouldn't have done it. Should have checked with Medicare first but thought my doctor knew. I used to give to the charities too but can't much anymore.

This is soooo familiar. It's like deja-freaken-vu. You could donate a million dollars to every charity in the world, but when you need help, it's never there. People in power tend to quickly forget how they got there. Good luck with the medical bills.

I don't know about Saint Vincent de Paul, but the Salvation Army concentrates their help on those who are in desperate situations, like losing their home or having their heat turned off, or can't get food. They're a good charity and I donate to them all the time, but they can't do everything.
The American Cancer Society says they will help, but it's mostly rides to treatments and things like that.
Your hospital and county should have some programs to help you. Have you contacted them? When they found out I was on SS, they cut what I owed in half after Medicare had paid its share. That really helped. If I were you, I'd start at the hospital. They should know if and what kind of help you can get.

I've heard the term doughnut hole lately for those on medicare ect. I guess that's the joys of costly meds, government regulation, and the need to live.
I understand though about needing to get help from chairities you used to donate I've had to do that on and off the past year or so.
I think I've seen commercials for companies like Astra Zenica (sp?) where they'll help you cover the expenses of meds. Medical care is quite a vicious cycle... you pay higher premiums, get even less coverage when you need to use the insurance, and yet struggle to pay co-pays and politicians wonder why?

HI BON, Sorry u are having such a rough time. These medical bills are something else. I was in the hospital from mon. till fri. & my bill so far is $35,000. Isn't that a hoot. Hospitals should be made to take what medicare or your insurance pays & that's it. They are a bunch of greedy guts.

you are so right. thats a funny saying for them. yes, i just dont know why we cant have it all paid like some that just get a little income. my aunt dont get but 700 a month and she says all her meds are free.
and yes the hospital bills are unbelievable

oh sorry to hear what you are going through bunny, but i know you will get through it. I am sorry i cannot offer any advice of where to ask help since your country has different system than in my country which i bet is a lot worse..really..there is no one here to ask for help though people do approach politicians here to seek help...
I am praying that whatever you seek will be given.

Oh bunnybon...I do hope you find some help. These are tough times and medical bills and medications aren't cheap. I can't believe that there is no more help out there than what there is for the people that deserve it and need it. If I hear of any places..I'll PM you.
Take care and keep your head up.

Sorry to be saying this. But did you not see it coming? May be I know now. Because here in India we have this saving habit right from the time we receive our first salary. We also give to charity but not before we are sure we have enough for ourselves. I am sure those who benefited from your charity will not let you suffer as with their prayers and good wishes you will soon get out of this. I wish you good luck bunny...
