I wonder if this is just my imagination or is it true that more are getting body piercings and tattoos than before?? I am thinking it is more accepted now so more are recieving them? I am ok with ears being pierced but the other ones I would pass on. I have always thought a better choice would be for tattoos to be semi-permanent for many people.

It seems to have been a big trend for quite some time. I like no more than two holes in the ears, personal preference. Tattoos should be temporary. Also personal preference. I would never want even a temporary one, though.

I have never even had my ears pierced and I really don't care much about wearing jewelry. Since I wear glasses, I didn't see the point in adding earrings. Maybe its because of when I grew up, but I don't see anything attractive about body art and tattoos. When I grew up, mostly military men had them. Now it seems to be a fad and even little kids get the transfer type. To me it's as though I'd be telling God what he made wasn't quite good enough and needed something added. I've always liked simplicity. I think if people get tattoos that show when they are dressed, they should think about it when choosing clothes. If your arms and back and neck are full of body art, think about wearing plain colors, not prints. Otherwise everything clashes and just looks confused and too busy. JMO

I'm not a fan of piercings (I very very rarely even bother wearing earrings) but I do like tattoos. they're a lot of fun, and I love seeing other peoples art and finding out why they chose what they did. as long as someone is an adult, then they can have whatever tattoos or piercings they want in my opinion. but it does make me sad to see very small children with pierced ears. it should be when they're old enough to choose for themself whether they want any piercings or tattoos.

not very many that I know of. I know a lot of tattooed people, and can only think of one who regrets it, and he had it done when he was drunk and out with friends, so I can see why it was a bad choice.

I don't think it's your imagination. It does seem to be a lot more people are getting body piercings and tattoos. Personally I like to keep it simple when it comes to piercings. I have one in each ear. I love earrings, although I was never into putting them in. It always made me nervous, even now as an adult. I couldn't imagine putting them in in other parts of my body....the ears lobes are bad enough! LOL When it comes to tattoos, I'm just not into them. Temporary ones can be fun, but that's as far as I'm willing to go. Even then, it's rare. I don't like the idea of marking my body with something more permanent. Not just because of the pain factor, but because I don't want anything on there that isn't meant to be there. Happy mylotting!

I'm sorry to hear that. I myself can only wear gold. I seem to get a reaction to anything else. I had my ears pierced twice as well, or should I say I had them repierced. The first time I got them pierced I only did it because my (older) sister wanted to get her's pierced. I was too much of a chicken to get them pierced otherwise. LOL After both of us had situations with our ears the holes closed up. Our mother didn't allow us to get them pierced after that. Not while we were minors anyway. I had to wait 9 years to get them redone. It's funny. I hardly wear earrings anymore. But it's still nice to know that I can.

sacmom...I had my ears pierced too..twice. I never had very much luck with it because no matter how careful I was, I often had redness and soreness. I finally just gave up.

As to having ears be pierced ,It gives no cause for much criticism. However,I simply can't conceive why some people trouble themselves to get their bodies tattoo at the risk of infection and allergy. If they do so for the purpose of following the fashion,is it worth doing so ?

there's a risk of infection and allergy with ear piercings too. my husband had an ear pierced several years ago now, and can still only wear jewellery for a few days before it starts swelling up.

In my opinion,it is better for people not to get their ears pierced or their skin tattoo. The skin is our first line of defence that prevents disease.

a semi permanet tatoo would maybe be somewhat helpfull for all the people who end up with what they call tattoo regret lol. i think more and more people are getting tatoos and percings the percings are just in and well the tatoos back inthe day millitrary men were about the only people who ever got these things

jazzyrae ..Plus another reason for semi-permanent is that skin stretches and shrinks with age and that distorts the tattoo..

Well as they say piercing and tattoos are addictive. I have three piercing myself. Double piercing in the ears and a 2 months ago my belly button. I'm not getting anymore now. I love the on es I have and I have no desire for anymore. My husbands cousin she lives getting piercings done and it's about the rush of it you think it's going to hurt a lit bu then it doesn't. I tell people if you can give birth to a baby then a tatto and piercing is nothing. My husband has his ears done and he has one tattoo he is getting another one for Chirstmas and another one for his birthday. They are more acceptable then in the past but it's likes a hobby for people.

stowyk..I feeel badly for the babies too...I know it hurts and it does require a lot of care so I would never pierce baby's ears. I wonder if it is has a special cultural significance for some?? Maybe that is why they do it?

Labor was nothing to me not pain at all and I didn't have any pain medication. Sure a piercing hurts but it's like Herron your ears done if you have then done an remember it or getting shot it hurts for like a couple of minutes and then it doest hurt. Keeping it clean till it healths is the hard part. For some it's a hobby for others it means something to them. Well the tattoos mean something to them. All the tattoos my husband has and are getting is for reasonthey have meanings be hind them. My husband has one that is his frats sign, the next one is music because he loves Playing music and the onces with the dragon balls represents our family. Each ball is a person my husband loves so much. Stowyk who said that they changed there babies years every day? I know I didn't. My daughter ears where done at 3 months the same age I was and it's best to do it then because docotors will tell you babies won't feel it as much, they are mug easier to keep clean while healing and it shorter healing process because baby's are so young and there skin is so new. I haven't changed my daughters yet. I was told you need to wait a ear after having a babies ears done. We have new earrings for her just waiting forth ear marker to come up. I domt even change mine everyday. Every few months I take mine out to take showers or baths I'm going to wait till my daughter is older to take hers out every time she takes a bath. Well when you have a girl as a baby it gets old telling people they are girl. They could be in a dress and still call girls boys so that is why a lot of people get them done when there little girls are babies and it's not wrong as a parent to get your kids ears done at that young of an age.it's worse when your child is older and they want it done but then freak out after getting one done. Babies will not do that at all best to get them in there sleep because most babies sleep right through it. My daughter didn't even know hers was done.

I think the same thing. Thank good for the Henna tatoos and such. My daughter likes to get the tatoos out of the machine and they are not permanent. She enjoys. This permanent stuff is awful. A gal on here got a bad tatoo and is having to deal with getting it taken care of. Ugh!

I also think we see more and more body piercings, especially your teenagers. However, beside earrings, I can't see the beauty in piercings anywhere else. But that's just my opinion. I also don't really find tattoos attractive and maybe they should be of a temporary form in case a person changes their minds.

Well everyone's entitled to their opinion but I don't really see what would be the purpose of a semi-permanent tattoo. I have one tattoo and plan on getting many more but of course it is my personal choice and I realize that not everyone is okay with tattoos and piercings. I think that it looks good on people depending on how much thought is put into the tattoo or piercing. Some of either one can be incredible looking art work and I don't see a problem with making the body more of a work of art than it already is. I enjoy getting spiritual tattoos with symbols that mean something such as the ohm symbol which is an incredibly spiritual tattoo that means god in tibet.

jambi462..Thanks I always find it interesting to hear why people get tattoos and piercings. I had my ears pierced because it was more comfortable to wear earings for pierced ears than clip ons. I agree it's all personal but find it interesting. I saw a special where the people who were getting tattoos claimed it was almost an addiction... I only mentioned temporary because I would think some might reqret the decision and possibly want to easily remove the tattoo.

I think its way too painful and way to dangerous and hazardeous to do so . I mean i'm not people against doing it , but i prefer them not to speacialy my close ones , the other may do what they like with their lifes and take their risks , because they do know there are such in these things . But i too prefer the tatooes to be not parmenent .

Tattoos nowadays are fashion statement. Its as if you are hip if you have one. camIt is an individual choice to have their tattoos and/or body piercings. But then again it doesn't mean that if you don't have one you are not in the 'in' crowd. Tattoos and piercings in the olden days are symbols of authorities. If you have one marteans you are a member of some elite tribe or cultural groups. It is power per se back then. I think that same notion drives those in jail to decorate their bodies with tattoos. You have to be identified with a group who wears the same tattoo to be accepted. In my opinion, I find it artistic and likes to see tattoos and piercings especially the colorful and meaningful ones. It's just a pity I could not try to have one on my own since I have this great fear about needle. Just the same, I really like the art and consider those tattoo artists great art maker. Semi-permanent tattoos? Well, yes and think it is a better choice anyway you can always have it permanent if you really like it. Well again it's a matter of personal choice.

Yes, I agree with you, there are lot of people really putting tattoos in their body. They say, it gives a unique distinction to them, aside from the trend itself. They feel they are easily recognized. During the past decades, in the history, the only tatoo persons are those in jailed or prisoned. But now? everybody can have it as long they wanted tooo.. This is the social changes and norms that are been conceptualized as changes in the environment.. Great time here at mylot.

I agree that tattoos and piercings have become more popular in recent years. They seem to have become an accepted form of expression among the younger generation. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but I feel that people should give a lot of thought before getting a tattoo since they are difficult to remove.

I have 1 ear piercing on my left ear and I was planning to get another one on my right but my parents disapproved of it. I'm also planning to get a temporary tattoo just to see if I look better with it. It's great to try new things every once in a while.
