My Mom made them that way, I was happy with it that way, but my brothers didn't. So I tried cheese and Canadian bacon. They found it more tolerable. But still "not their thing."

We don't add meat or cheese to scalloped potatoes, because we usually serve it as a side dish with a meat dish and a veggies dish.
I don't usually think about what's in food dishes - I don't cook so I eat what is put on my plate. Sometimes baking instructions surprise me though.

Good that you eat what is put on your plate. Surprised you don't cook at all. Take care.

This was one thing that I have known for a while since I have made this in the past. Usually I have it just by itself with nothing else added, but have had some that others have added ham too. As for recipes that I have found to be quite different depending where you look is potato salad, and personally this is one thing that I have never made the same way twice. I add a lot of things though in mine I think a lot of other people don't but most times mine is never made the same way each time for sure.

I like potato salad with lots of things in it. Chives, peas, celery, etc. I made mine one time and someone made theirs. I had tons of things in mine. They had mostly potatoes and mayo. Mine was almost gone because people had 2nds of mine and no one did 2nds of this other person.

Now I want to go over for his birthday! Sounds terrific.
Mine was in layers on swiss cheese, potatoes, and Canadian Style bacon with whole milk. I don't think I'll make it the same way every time. But I did like it.
