The oldest photos I have are about 100 years! On one of them I can see my mom as a baby and she was born 1910.. Maybe that is one of the very oldest..?? I was wondering if we are allowed to publish this kind of photos?? It would be nice to show them here, but they are certainly not taken by me.. I guess there is some law that has something to say about how old the photos have to be to be published officially. Does anyone know?? Are there any international laws about this? How old are your oldest photos??

Yes, Lakota - sometimes photos get lost and can be hard to get back again unless there are more than one of them. Computers are not so safe places to keep photos, they can get lost when the puter crashes. I hope you at least met your grandpa..

One of the oldest photo I have, and the most cherished by me, is the one of my dad, as a baby, maybe few months old, playing with a rattle, it was taken in 1929. I also have one of my grandfather, my mom´s father, from his first identity card, I don´t know for sure when it was taken, but, it must have been about the same period, the late 20´s.

Old photographs are just priceless. I have pictures from my parents which was taken in WWII. Some not so pleasant. Then we have photographs of her dad when he was a much younger man, but I can't date it. I'm glad I have them.

Yes, photos of family members are precious for us. I´m glad too that they went to the photographer when they did. Not many had cameras long time ago. I would like to make a photo book to give to younger relatives - at least to those who would appreciate it!!

I have some copies of pictures that were taken in 1922. One is a picture of my uncle as a baby, his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. There maybe copies of older pictures, but I'm not sure how old they are.

That´s a long time ago, ninety years.. I wish I had a photo of my father as a baby, but that time their family was so big that I guess they couldn´t afford it. You have an interesting photo with four generations together!

Some are from the 1800's...both my parents family photos are very old...even in black and white! They are fun to look at....so many times they are all so sullen! No smiles not even on the wedding pictures!

No smiles? Going to a photographer must have been a serious moment, maybe a bit scaring to become a picture.. They also had to think about not to move for a long time, or the picture would look burry..

My oldest photos are also VERY old. The older are probably some from my grandfather before he came to my country and met my grandmother. Those must be circa 1900-1905. Then there are a couple of wedding pictures. I don´t know why we would not be allowed to publish these pictures. As far as I know they are ours. I have always felt that my baby picture is absolutly MINE. Do publish them, friend.

I think it has something to do with who has taken them and if you use them for commercial purpose. But if they are very old, they may be free to publish. Where did your grandpa come from? Most people in South America must be immigrants or have ancestors that are immigrant. Well, even the indians must have come from somewhere.. Babylon?? It´s great that you have pictures that are over a hundred years old.

I suppose all those pictures were not commercial pictures in the first place and were owned by the people who paid the photographers. They are not signed either. The grandfather in those pictures was German and they took pictures while at a safari in Africa. The pictures are awesome. I imagine all that is already a paradise lost.

The oldest photo I own is one of my great-grandparents on their wedding day. This was around 1870 so the photo is around 140 years old. I haven't scanned it yet so I can't post it here at the moment but I know that I have every right to post it here. As long as they aren't photos that are copyrighted by someone other than you, you can post them here. At least that's the understanding I have of the photo regulations here.

That is an old photo! Maybe the copyright has expired long ago, if there ever was any.. It could be good to make a copy - just in case.. but I have no idea where it is best to keep it.. A wedding was a special occasion to take a photo, even if it was expensive that time..

The oldest photos of mine, which I still keep were taken in 1985. It was the time when my wife and I were still going steady. There might be other much older photos at my parent's home. I guess the oldest ones were only 80 years of age--it was the period before the independence day. I don't know if there are international laws regarding how old a photo should be in order to be officially published. I think some mylotters are informed of this.

Well - why not ask your parents about the oldest photos. They might remember a great deal and be able to tell some of your history! You might find some very interesting pictures among the oldest ones. Maybe there is some info online about the copyright of photos..

I have my dad's photo that is eighty years old. He was a small baby then. I also have the photographs of my grandparents which could be hundred years old. It is really very nice to own such old snaps sending the grown ups down the nostalgic lane. Happy mylotting.

Yes, once in a while it is great to look at this kind of photos. Their quality is abosolutely great, as they have stayed perfect until now. I´m not sure when they started taking photos of "ordinary" people. But it must have been a special occasion as people dressed up in what looks like their best clothes, when they went to the photographer!

I guess it depends where people lived that time. My mom was the only child and lived in a town, so they had better possibility to take photos. My dad lived in the country and he had at least 14 siblings who lived at home, so there are no pictures of him as a child. They probably couldn´t afford it. When I was a baby, it was right after the war and you can see the not so good quality of my one year old photo in my profile. Compare with the photo a few years later..
