Do you throw grand birthday parties for specific ages?

I mean, age 1 is usually celebrated so grandly and a birthday party is always called for. At age 7, a birthday bash is also thrown. Apparently, age 7 is meaningful in some culture. I think the next milestone would be at age 18 for girls and at age 21 for boys. These are the ages where a girl and a boy, respectively mature. It's the birthday debut. I'm sure I celebrated my first birthday with a party and I remember having a cake at my 7th birthday party. I celebrated my debut in a resort. I'm now wondering what age should I throw again a party that would mark a milestone in my life.

Hi secretbear! We don't have such things here- I mean in my family. We can celebrate and have birthday party at any age. In fact it is alright if we don't celebrate it. Simply said not a compulsory event of the year in my family calendar. We just say wishes if we don't celebrate it.(^^)

CT, same here. My family also don't have the compulsory practice to celebrate birthday party every year. Most of the time, we will only celebrate our birthday in a simple way. It is just not an important event in my family, too.

We celebrate birthdays every year. It's just that, at some point in time at certain ages, there are special things to celebrate. Like the first year of a child, the coming of age at 7, and maturity at 18. So those ages are more special than ordinary birthdays.

Hi Secret, i remembered my parents told me that they ever throw a grand birthday party for me and my siblings when we are celebrating our first birthday party. After that, from the other years onward, we don't really celebrate our birthday in a grand way anymore. We just celebrate our birthday in a simple way. When we do celebrate our birthday, we will make sure to buy a birthday cake to accompany the celebration. That's the only to mark that it is a birthday celebration.

The first year is always special. Actually, having a cake for us would mean that the birthday is not just any other birthdays. I can't remember my first birthday party but on my 7th and 18th birthdays, I had cakes. But on my ordinary birthdays, I didn't have one.

Sis, I have sent you the email address!!! It seems that it is compulsory to have a cake in a birthday party. Nowadays if we get used to it-celebrating birthday especially to kids if we start it since young age they will asked for us to celebrate it almost every year. They will feel sad if we don't do it for them. Hmm...they should know birthday is not just about a cake, gifts and treats~ That is what happen to my sister's children~

So if the birthday is on 7th and the age is 7, that would be the golden day? Dang. I did not celebrate my golden birthday much.

I thought the 7th birthday is celebrated by boys only? I wasn't aware that it's celebrated by girls also. But yeah, I think those are the usual ages where we throw big birthday bashes. After that, I guess a lot of people stop counting their age :)

I don't know much about the 7th year. I heard it's the "coming of age" and I didn't know that it's only celebrated by boys. Here, it's both celebrated by boys and girls.

Yes, traditionally as what you said birthdays at seven years old and 18 for girls and 21 for boys. That's what my parents told me. But for me I didn't celebrate much my 18th birthday. My parent's gave a choice and I'd choose not too. But still they got me something with friends but not that grandly.

My mother actually did not want to celebrate my 18th birthday in a resort. She just wanted to celebrate it at home. But I wanted it to be more memorable so I asked to celebrate it somewhere other than home with friends.

I remembered too that I do celebrate and have a party when I was one and seven years old.Lots of food to eat and toys and gifts that i received.Neighbors, relatives, classmates and friends was all there to celebrate and have a great time with me.There are some games to enjoy. But what important is that we are thankful for all the blessings we have and thank God for giving us another year in our life.I guess celebrating it family and love one's whether it is a party or a simple gathering is more important and memorable.

Well, 1 is always a Great age to throw a special party and have a nice cake. Then I would think age 5 when a child is old enough to start school, maybe age 8.. but I can remember a Special one at 10, and then usually something special when they turn 13, 16, and 18. I can remember having special parties allowed at 10, 13 16, and 18. 18 for me was a big one as I had just recently graduated from High School as well.

No, I don't throw a lot of parties, and if I do then it is not for a special occasion, necessarily. Usually I celebrate birthdays with just a few people, sometimes just "us two."

I do not celebrate birthdays in any certain manner. My birthday was always placed on the back burner so I tend to do the same myself. I celebrate for the kids according to their wishes. In my family, the sixteenth birthday was special; kind of an outcoming of sorts. When I had my own kids, I particularly enjoyed the 21st birthdays because my kids were legal all over the world (can you say freedom?). The biggest point of celebration my kids and I enjoyed was to give presents to others on our birthdays in an effort to share our special day. Yes, birthdays can be fun.

Age 1 is surely a must because it represents our first year of existence in this world.. haha I don't remember having any party when i'm 7 since it holds no significance to me. As for the age of 18, it's common for both man boys and girls to celebrate in big way as it's a legal age for many things, on the route to adulthood. Of course at 21, it's a major celebration because it means freedom from parents.. haha As for when's the next, maybe it's at 50, for we are at the halfway mark to a century ^^

I am just done with my daughter's debut. It's not a grand one- no 18 roses or 18 angels. We celebrated it with family and friends and that was fun
