but I do not know where to start, or even what I need and the best thing is the place to get all the information that I need.I want to learn how to make candles that have scent in them, as I could make a few for my friend, who seems to have shares in scented candles.

That is great. I'm happy for you. I too have thought about making candles. You can look up ehow articles and get books from your local library. Etsy is also a great place to learn about making candles. I'm sure that it would be so much fun to do this. I was hoping to be able to do that sometime but have not been able to get all the stuff I would need or the supplies. I hope that you will be able to get started soon.

I have been busy helping a friend make sweet trees, as well as cards, as she had loads that people ordered.I am thinking of buying a candle making kit first to see if I like the hobby of making candles.I feel that at the moment there are a few friends that need my help in one way or another.I shall let you know when I start to make a few candles, in the hope that they will be easy to make.

I feel that it is cheaper to make our own candles than keep buying them, as I am sure in the long run it should save some money, plus you can make them and give them as a gift.
It is great that your friend is doing really well at making a business out of something that they enjoy doing.

I have made them before and it can get messy, but it is fun and you can make really nice things for your home and for gifts (or to sell) -- I think there are lots of tutorials online for making them, but I'd just like to say it is not necessary to buy fancy expensive supplies as old and partially used candles can be recycled very creatively. I have bought lots of used ones for pennies at the thrift stores and melted down the wax and reused it.
Here is one article:

Here is a tutorial on making your own fragrance for the candles instead of using store bought essential oils:

Have fun, and don't burn yourself (or the house down!)

Thank you very much for the links, I will take a look at them.It is great that there are a few places that we can look to get all the information that we can on things.I was thinking of just buying a cheap candle making kit to see if I like making candles, before I shell out lots of money on things to make them with.

You can buy candle kits in craft stores and they come with some scents. You could probably buy oils for the other scents you might want. As for information on mixing them etc, you can find that online. You could probably buy kits online for cheaper, and maybe even in wholesale as well.
There are sites like instructables.com, and other video sites that can teach you how to make them. Selling them - that's another story.
Good Luck!

I had a look at a few sites and they were great as they sell the kits to make all shapes, sizes as well as scents.I think to begin with I will buy a kit that has the instructions, as that way I will see if I lkike the idea of making candles.Rather than paying lots of money and do not make many candles, I will buy a cheap kit.

Though I've never personally made any candles, I know that there are a lot of types of candles that are very easy to make and you can find all of the supplies that you need to make them at craft stores.
If you want to add scent to your candles, they also sell candle scents at the craft stores.
As far as finding instructions for making candles, there are many different how to make candle articles on the internet.
This is one example of a kind of candle that you can make at home that is really easy to do: http://www.helium.com/items/2300600-how-to-make-cookie-cutter-candles
