Sometime ago I made a discussion about the fifteen or so feral cats who prowl looking for food behind our Gold crest building. the back of a large Vietnamese grocery store overlooks our room. this morning my roomie called my attention to a man in a long white coat with a bloodied apron, probably from the meat dept., feeding all the cats. I was thrilled t o see someone was caring that much about them. they come in all sizes and colors from alley cat to a purebred Maltese, a Siamese and a Marmalade cat. He even bent down and petted a black cat.I have tried to find a feral cat saving group here in our area bu t have not succeeded. So many Vietnamese live here and they do not seem to have pet cats. I hate it that these cats were evidently at one time in someone's home and got dumped here in this alleyway.our owners here mandate we mus not feed them. well a you ng woman got clawed by one of the feral cats while on Gold Crest property so they got all antsy. She was dumb enough to try to pick up an alley cat who had no reason to ever again trust any human it was her own fault. anyway just wanted to share as I feel he is close to being a saint in his kindness.Your take mylotters

It's nice to hear someone is taking care of those cats!! I actually have a friend who used to take in feral cats (I don't think she does anymore, but I never asked her why she stopped - it's possible it was a financial decision). Even though her husband was allergic to cats, they had about 15 cats in their home! They didn't have a yard, but they had a cool walkway around their house which was had a fenced roof top - and it led to a sort of huge sunroom where all the cats could hang out - and you could see this through a glass wall from inside the house. They had greenery, furniture . . . oh such spoiled cats - hee hee! They were separated from the rest of the house because of the husband's allergies, but how nice of him to still take in cats!! But I know they were always had financial burdens - even so, they would always take each cat to the vet and make sure they were well taken care of - and as loving as that is, you know it's costly. I think it also took a toll on their emotions when each one was getting old and each passed on in their arms. Now, believe, they just have 2 cockatiels.

himuchtosayI am so h appy he is feeding them as I just thought for sure nobody cared. they of course need a lot more than that but its a wonderful start. the admins here in Gold Crest told us not to feed them. seems Garden Grove resident stopped on Gold Crest property to pick up one of the feral cats. She got badly clawed and now the admins afraid I guess they might get sued wants us not t o feed them. I am going to try to find online the Alley Cat A llies and see if they have a group here in Garden Grove CAlifornia. then enlist their help in helping the alley cats here in Garden /g Grove California thumbup[/em]

Surely there must some feral cat group out here (this is Southern CA, we have everything!!). Yah, many feral cats are just not used to people . . . we have some stewn around here - I have to tell my kids to not try to pet them - you never know how the cats will react! Good luck, Hatley!!!

Ok, I agree with you and everyone, he is a good man for taking care of these cats, but in order to be a real saint, he'd have to capture all of them, take them to a vet and get them all fixed. Feeding them doesn't do anything good other than keeping them alive and producing more cats that have no homes. I remember there was a neighbor who fed stray cats and they kept multiplying so much, one year the mother cat got into our open attic, (this was when we had some construction going on and no work was being done at the time) and she had her kittens in our attic. Due to the construction, part of the attic also fell into a bathroom that was being remodeled and one of the kittens fell down. We were able to get the baby back to mom, but I subtly let her know that the humane society had a discount on fixing cats. she obviously listened since I don't see a lot of cats wandering around anymore.

It would be nice if there was something, but unfortunately, I don't think so because cats, unlike dogs, seem to reproduce so quickly, that the best option is for someone to invest in doing this.

Yes indeed Carm that has to be the next step. I wonder if anyone else watching these cats feels like I do that the cats must be rescued and neutered and given homesI looked in our phone book but could not find a rescue group for feral cats but I am sure there has to be one around here someplace.I am going to the web to look up Alley Cat Alleys for Southern California and see if there is one close to us

That is wonderful to hear, Hatley. I have worked for years with feral cats, as have many of my friends. When someone does something like that it is so special. These cats, through no fault of their own, are abandoned, left to repopulate, and are hungry, tired - just surviving. Anyone who can make getting through the day easier on them is indeed a saint.

hi bunnybon yes Ithink he is rewarded as he stopped to pet a black cat. he is the only one I have seen esxcept for some of us resident feed them. You know dogs are smart too. when a man running for relection as our represntative in congress came into our home to try to get us as voters, our dog would not let him pet him but growled and snapped at him. we apologized but we read a few weeks later this man was brought up on charges of embezzling state funds in several million dollars worth. so our dog was really very smart. The man did not get reelected either. Our dod seemed to sense something not right with this man, lol lol. [

I hear alot of countries like Viet Nam,Korea and other countries like that cat cat and dog! Ewww! That ia sick! So I would not be surprise the people from Viet Nam not having pets like a dog or cat! I always hate hearing and seeing stories of people dumping their animals off! People do it for all reasons and it bothers me! If you can't take care of your animals take them to the human society! if not them to a no kill shelter or animal rescue where people will find a home or homes for their animals! Some people think they take them to a shelter and they will be killed no matter what! Then there are people who think pets, like cats and dogs can defend for themselves. Not! These animals are domestacted and wouldn't know how to defend for themselves if given the chance! At least alot of them! people do this snakes, pet repitles, horses and even wild animals, like big cats! If you can't take care of them don't dumb them and expect them to be fed even if you think they can defend for themselves! People aren't thinking and some don't care! I would love to shack them senceless when i hear stories like that! I get really angry, too!

Indeed. It is great to know that there are still people who takes care of animals. Man should not be selfish in what they have towards being who are 'lower' than they since God gave us this job to maintain his creations. We are God's stewards to his creation and that's why knowing that such a person still exists is a great relief to me. This is a very nice share, Hatley! Have a nice day!

Yes ' SinfulRose it made me feel so much better I had t o share with others. Now to find a group who care for feral cats, then get them all spayed or neutered and find good loving homes for' them all. We are supposed to care for the animals not leave them to starve or fend for themselves.

thanks SinfulRoseI will try my best as those poor kitties deserve a home with someone who loves them and will take care of them. People who will not neuter their pets then when mama cat has kittens they think its fine t o dump the poor kittens in our back alley.

Indeed. Sometimes I wonder why we forget that we are responsible for them. And if you look at how things work closely, one will see that we need them too in order to survive in this world. Though it may not sound true to others anymore but it's the "circle of life" or "food chain" or more commonly known as "nature's way". If we want to survive or live, we'll have to take care of our surroundings and the animals. Not one of us is useless because each creature has his/her own functions. If those strays are there it's because they have their purpose. If you see that your place has less mice/rats running around, it's thanks to those cute guys. The least we could do for them is feed them, give them shelter and not abuse them. I know that it's the humane way. I'm glad that you're making the effort to look for people/company/organization that will take care of them, Hatley. I pray that you'll be successful and I hope those kitty cats will have a good life.

Well, he is, is he? :) I think at times firm measures are necessary to be a saint. For example, Joan of Arc had to fight valiantly and kill, which under normal circumstances would not be expected of her. Out in our country, government needs to do something about population otherwise, there would be stiff competition for food amongst humans and animals, and animals would lose out, thanks to the ingenuity of humans.

hi vandy yes in a way I think he is in his own way.So many feel birth control is wrong but I feel one should not just bring more babies into your home if you are having trouble feeding the ones you already have. Also people here are so irresponsible when it comes to cats.So many refuse to neuter or spade a cat Then mama cat has a liter and half of them end up like in our back alley here. Homeless and hungry and few people even care about them. I was so glad to see him feeding the cats as the admins here in Gold crest got all upset when we tried to feed the cats ourselves.

Sorry Hatley, I hate to see cruelty to animals and believe that wild animals should have their own space. To feed wild animals in a inhabited area is just asking for trouble just like trying to pet a wild animal. I have seen free running dogs in Turkey at dusk howling at dusk forming a pack to go hunting, it's not good. By day they are no where to be seen but at dusk out they come.

hi telmesh I think these are cats raised from babyhood in someones home then just suddenly dumped so unlike cats that have always lived outside these really do not quite know how to fend fot themselves as they did not have a mama cat to teach themn and always were fed by the people who had owned them. some of these looked pretty bad off too some are purebreds, those people have to be seriously mentally off to buy expensive pure bred kittens then dump them all of a sudden.

Ya, it was her fault but that isn't how our wonderful world looks at it. How dare an animal abuse us. We can take their habitats and all that how dare they be wild and do what instinct warrants. I don't orientals have many pets. Too busy doing Chai and meditating I guess. Too bad you can't befriend them but I can understand why they have to set down such rules.

Hiya Hatley, Very nice gesture on behalf of that Man to feed those Cats like that even when he is under no obligation either. Feral Cats will scratch and spit very much so. Next Door but one´s Daughter had one as a Pet and it was the most crazy Cat you can imagine and on top of that it was called you guessed it Tiger of the names to call it. Well it did have big black stripes on it. Also it spit at everyone and hissed at everyone and tried to attack People if they went near to their Garden. I am always glad when these Cats are given a break like that nice Vietnamese Man gave them. But my most favourite Alley Cat was "Top Cat" close Friends got to call him TC and Benny one of the other Cats you know the Cartoon Alley Cats from quite a time back now. It must be more difficult for the Alley Cats than before as the Rubbish Bins have changed all the rules for them have changed making it much harder for them to survive. What a wonderful assort of Cats you get to see there then. I like all of those breeds too. Just hope is able to keep feeding them. Me too I hate it when Cats get dumped they are much less trouble than a Dog too so I can´t understand why they let them stray so much.xxx

Hiya Hatley, Yes I remember that one as well "Cats". I have never seen it over here though it was in England I saw a bit of it. I loved "Top Cat" the Cartoon this is going ages back Hats from the time of Tom and Jerry I can still sing the Song that went with it. Let´s hope he still keeps feeding them Hats. No cat can get into the Bins here they are way too high and the lids way too heavy so they can´t get their Food there.xxx

I believe in God and Christ and others believed in other things but we all are trying to keep up our faith.
