Crochet Hook Considered a Weapon |
| |
| The good person that I am, I accompanied friends to court today. Waiting for hours was not my idea of a good day. I brought along my Christmas cards and my crocheting. The metal detector went off and the guard inspected my bag and told me that he knew that the crochet hook was harmless and if is was up to him I could bring it in. The problem is that "others" would term it a possible weapon. I had to leave the bag with him while I waited. Glad I brought the Christmas cards, at least I could get them done. | | | | | |

| | I think he was taking himself far too seriously, and that the "others" who would term it as a weapon didn't really exist. How on earth could anyone do any damage with one? Fingernails are more dangerous. | | | | | | |

| | the only way a crochet hook could REALLY be used as a weapon is if somone tried to steal mine , then the person trying to steal it to do harm or maybe another project would be the one in trouble >:) yea we crochet pplz like our hooks ;) ~M~ | | | |

| | It really does seem extreme on some of the things considered "weapons" now. Makes me wonder if we're becoming an uptight, paranoid society or if this is really all in the interest of safety? Personally I think we're erring on the side of paranoia. Then again, I'm a nice person and not out to hurt anyone or anything so I don't think that way? | | | | | | |

| | The thing is and even tho I know it is crazy a crochet hook can be easily jabbed into someones ribs or stomach and can cause damage. If someone really got pi$$ed off they could grab your hooks and seriously hurt someone. That is why the guard was covering hus but. | | | | | | |

| | I agree. Though you probably had no intention of using it as a weapon, it would only take one person who's intent upon harming others to use it to jab into someone's eye. Really sad that this is what our world has turned into! | | | |

| | well actually as i stated in my original post to this topic those thread hooks are pretty lethal lol, it reminds me of thos one post to one of my many crochet list where this lady was was working on a thread project ( while her hubby was driving ) and they were in a car accedent and the hook went right thru her hand !! so even tho i used to take my crochet with me wether im working with thread or yarn at the time i dont any more , but geesh thand god she wasnt knitting eh ? ~M~ | | | |

| | I could be wrong, but I really don't think an H, I, J, K crochet hook would go through a persons' hand. I do see how a smaller one, for thread (as was stated)could do that. I never thought of a crochet hook as a potential weapon | | | |

| | It was in fact a "J" hook. But if you think about it, it could jab someone in the ey and do some damage. | | | |

| | LOL. Well, I guess if you really wanted to you could stab somebody with it, but then you could stab somebody with a ballpoint pen too. Do they take those away now too? | | | | | | |

| | It's not the guards fault, it's their policy. It's just as bad as when TSA/airport screeners were taking away little cuticle scissors and such. If you want to be technical, a pen or pencil could be a weapon. Anything could be used as a weapon, it just depends on how people think. Box cutters didn't use to be illegal to bring on flights. Sad day and age we're living in. | | | | | | |

| | The guard and I had a good laugh when I came back for the bag. He said he wanted to help me out and work on the afghan, but was afraid it wouldn't have looked the same as my work. | | | |
