Designer clothing and more expensive clothing - Do you indulge? Why?

Personally, I indulge because I enjoy the fit, the look, and the quality, and it feels good to wear it. It's often more ethically made, as well. Some think I spend too much on clothes, but I'd rather spend a lot to look better than to spend little and not look or feel as good. My favorite lines are Armani Exchange, True Religion, Hollister for polos, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Express. (yeah, big variance in quality and "high classness", but I have diverse tastes)

The last time I bought an expensive blouse, I had to sew all the buttons, as they were all loose. If there is a weddings or something special coming up, I will buy myself something new and nice... but I don't buy nice clothing for no reason, as I don't have a job that requires it, nor a social life that requires it, and my favorite clothes are blue jeans and usually a large harley t-shirt :))

I don't have money to indulge and even if I did I would stick to as very little clothing as possible so I don't have a clutter in my closet.

No I don't wear designer clothes. I always spill something on myself or ruin it helping my husband so I would be out alot of money. I never spend a lot of money for clothes. In fact I have picked up much of my clothing at yard sales. Some of it would be expensive if it were new but I never pay a lot for it.

I completely agree with you on this. Some people say it sounds materialistic or selfish, but not me. I have spent the past three years buying nothing but wal-mart or target..and I hated it. Finally, the past two days I decided it was time to get some decent clothes that wouldn't fall apart in the washer in a month. I didn't go for the Armani or Gucci...can't quite afford those. But, I went to American Eagle, A&F, and Banana Republic. The clothes fit so much better and are much better quality then the walmart clothes!

I don't really indulge on designer stuff or even what we call branded items. Im happy with anything really as long its good quality plus cost effective. I dont want to spend 2,000pesos on a shirt when i can buy a similar one for 300pesos. I keep telling myself that i can buy a whole outfit for that price of one blouse. im not saying i am not tempted to indulge on branded or designer items. Its just that it cost too much money. Of course, I am not gonna buy some low class stuff as well just because its cheap. I make sure its reasonable items, pretty, nice material and good fit. Not all items that fell on that criteria are expensive anyway. :)

I don't indulge because I don't believe it's worth it. I actually watched a programme which compared two pairs of jeans. The only difference was the price. It was something like £4 for one pair and £140 for another pair, both pairs were tested equally and not many could tell any difference. In fact, those who could see a difference thought the designer jeans were the cheaper ones.
But apart from that, I couldn't afford designer clothes even if I wanted them! But I have plenty of perfectly good clothes. I am happy to pay a little bit more for knowing the clothes are good quality but a lot of designer and more expensive stuff isn't necessarily any better quality than cheaper stuff. I know out of all my clothes, the most comfortable and robust are the non-branded ones. And my partner had to keep buying himself new clothes because zips would go on trousers and things, until he started buying stuff from Asda, where he now goes for all his clothes because they last longer.

I could really care less whose name is on the label of my shirt. As long as it fits nicely, feels good, looks good, and doesn't empty my pocket I'm a happy camper. I guess if you have the money and love fashion, then you should be free to wear whatever you like.

Designer clothes last longer. When you buy clothes from wal-mart or something they usaully shrink the first time you wash them or rip or something like that. Whenever I buy pants from there most the time I will wash them and wear them for the second time and they will look like I'm wearing high waters (it comes like an inch above my ankles). I hate when that happens and that's why I like to buy name brand pants.

I am not egocentric and I do not dress for others. Making others rich for the clothes I wear is ludicrous. I buy my clothes from the gypsies in the local fairs...usually get designer clothes (seconds) much cheaper. In addition to that I have seen very few designers that fit into my style of clothing. I like to cover up....don't want everything hanging out. If someone wants to find out what I look like under the clothing they's gonna have to pay me for the privilege. hehehehehe.

Not unless I can find them in a resale shop. I have this misfortune of changing sizes often, and working with children andin other circumstances where I might get soiled easily. There is a certain line of clothes for women my age that I do love, because the colors are bright and they have a lot of creative elements, The fabric is soft and wears well. They are pretty seasonless, so I will get them as the season changes at a very good price. Having less expensive clothes means I can part with them easily if they get damaged.

I usually do a cost-per-wear analysis. If it is some trendy item that I am going to wear once, I typically try to find it at H&M or Forever 21 so that I don't spend a lot of money on it. If it's something that I will wear a lot, I don't mind going designer. Jeans are one thing I can't go cheaper on--- I wear them all the time and the designer ones like Seven for All Mankind and True Religion fit and look so much better than anything you find at lower end stores

It is up to the individual what they spend on their clothing, providing they can afford it of course. When I was working a certain standard of dress was required, and I always dressed the part. At that time we had a very busy active social life, so I also had good quality clothes for that. Now that we are retired and no longer need the same quality or quantity of clothes that we did then.
So now we have one set of good clothes for both summer and winter when we go out and the rest is just what we pick up cheaply. Some of it is good quality and some of it just so-so, but at the same time this suits both our needs and our budget.

I wear what is comfortable and usually that's my HiTek books, jeans and a baggy sweatshirt. I used to be a clothes horse and buy the designer stuff but these days I am in it for comfort. Rest assured, as soon as summer rolls around, I'll be back in the "short shorts" and sport bras!

Not really. I'm happy with Old Navy, Guess and Gap. I'd rather spend the money elsewhere.

If i could afford that clothes, I would love to wear them 'cause then I bet I would feel better about myself, but they are just so expensive and that is just because of the name, not 'cause they hold up better.
My friend had a pair of cheap jeans that held up for like 3 years, when the expensive ones held up for like 5 months!! How crappy is that?
