What Book Are You Reading At The Moment? |
| |
| Who wrote it? What's it about? Would you recommend it to others? I'm currently reading "The Bookseller Of Kabul" by Asne Seierstad. She spent 4 months living with the family of a man called Sultan Khan. He defied the Afghan authorities for years by selling books despite being imprisoned and tortured by the Taliban and having his books publicly burned. I'm about halfway through the book and I'm really enjoying it. It's not just about the bookseller himself but also things that happen in the day to day life of his family. It's a fascinating insight into another country and culture. I would definitely recommend it. | | | | | |

| | I am reading the Mill on the Floss by George Burns, I think? Its a wonderful story and I still love the simple innocent way its written and virtually travel in time reading it and picturing what a wonderful place the world used to be back then. But I am only through the first chapters I know the gets a bit messy later.. | | | | | | |

| | That sounds interesting - thanks for telling us about it Shilpi0202. I haven't read any of Paulo Coelho's books yet although I have a copy of The Alchemist on the "books still to read" shelf of my bookcase. I may add "Veronica Decides To Die" to it. | | | |

| | Right now I am not reading anything. I have just finished a book by a regional author, in Malayalam language. I have bought a book yesterday, "Shipwrecks" by Akira Yoshimura and translated by Mark Ealey. I will start it tomorrow. Its about a poor coastal village in medieval Japan. | | | | | | |

| | I'm reading two books at the moment, one at home in the evenings and one on the bus to and from work. The first book is 'The Reality Dysfunction' by Peter F. Hamilton. It is science fiction set in the year 2611. Its told from multiple points of view, but the main character is an independent starship captain. Humanity finds itself under attack from an unknown and vastly superior enemy and must find a way to defeat the threat before their society is destroyed. The second book is 'Excession' by Iain M. Banks. This is also science fiction (this isn't all I read, I'm just on a sci-fi kick at the moment). I've barely gotten into this one, so I don't know what its about yet. | | | | | | |

| | I used to read quite a lot of science fiction but not so much now. I know what you mean about being on a sci-fi kick. I go through phases with the types of books I read too. Thanks for your response. | | | |

| | I am reading God Delusion, I recommend it only if you want to know if you have an open mind and have interest in religion issues (atheism). The next book I think I will read is 1984, by Orwell (this month I am reading again some books I already read some time ago). | | | | | | |

| | I quite often go back to books that I've not read for years. I've not read 1984 since I was at school so that would be a good one or Animal Farm of course. Loved that book when we studied it at school. Thanks for your response | | | |

| | I'm reading THE SAME SWEET GIRLS by Cassandra King. It's Chick Lit but for the more "seasoned" chick. The Same Sweet Girls is the name of a club of six southern belles who went to college together. They meet twice a year for a weekend. When the book begins they are all on the cusp of turning fifty. The chapters vary points of view between the characters. We see how their lives have gone and their take on the other women. It's very good. I'm a little more than half through it and expect it will hold my attention to the end. | | | | | | |

| | Sounds a bit more interesting than the usual Chick Lit stuff which isn't really my cup of tea normally but I have been known to read it if I'm on holiday or whatever. Thanks for your response. | | | |
