I got an email from the public library yesterday letting me know that the DVD I borrowed has been automatically renewed. This is a new thing.

They did away with them.
Books were 25 cents / day and DVDs were $3 / day, if returned late.

We used to do that alot when we were in between computers. Each of my kids would get their computer and I would get on one myself. We would stay on the allotted tome then sign out and go home.
