photo results | Savants and geniuses | Kim Peek is one of the most famous savants that i personally admire. he was the inspiration behind the Oscar and academy-award winning “Rainman (1988)” with Dustin Hoffman. Kim is gifted with photographic memory and has read and remembered more then 10,000 books. if a normal person can take 2-3 minutes to understand fully a page of a book, Kim can understand and memorize it in just 8 seconds, imagine that, 8 seconds?! if there was a man in the world smarter than Google, it would definitely be him. his only weaknesses are that he can't reason out mathematical equations, conceptualize stuff and also has a difficulty in following instructions due to the fact that his brain structure lacks the corpus callosum, the longitudinal fissure that connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain. it is incredible to see not only his amazing abilities but also an amazing emotional relation with his father. his father has spent his whole life being a caregiver to his son and has given an extremely long patience in taking care of him. not only accompanying his son to interviews but also giving him tender love and care. Kim once said that "me and my father share the same shadow". also, in one of his interviews, someone asked him how is it to be different and he replied " you don't have to be handicapped to be different. everybody is already different." here is a link to the documentary video about Kim Peek. | |
