| psp 3000 | Last week, a FCC filing all but confirmed the existence of a new PSP...and now, SCEE's David Reeves has announced the PSP-3000 during Sony's press conference at the Leipzig Games Convention.
We're still gathering in as many details as possible, but we can tell you that it's going to use a "slimmer and lighter case" and will also boast "crisper colors and more intensity when outside in natural light." The "enhanced LCD screen" helps in this capacity. Furthermore, as many predicted through past rumors, Reeves revealed Sony will be including a built-in microphone and Skype functionality with the PSP-3000. Now, as for the name itself, we're not sure if it's going to get a nickname - like the "PSP Slim" for the PSP-2000 - because we only know it now as the PSP-3000. But either way, we're happy that it's coming, and it will launch on October 15 for the price of 199 Euros in PAL regions. At that time, you can pick up any one of 8 special PSP/game bundles that include the likes of FIFA 09, Harry Potter, Buzz!: Master Quiz, etc. Obviously, the PSP-3000 is coming to North America, too, but as this is a European conference, they're only talking about information related to that territory. Well, at least for now.
The first cosmetic renovation came at the end of 2007, which fueled a spike in sales that continues to this day. Of course, software like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and God of War: Chains of Olympus (and Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G in Japan) helped a great deal as well. Hey, we know there are a lot of people out there looking for an excuse to finally buy a PSP! - psxextreme.com

| psp 3000 | In comparison to the PSP-2000, the PSP-3000 has an improved LCD screen with an increased colour range, five times the contrast ratio, half the pixel response time to reduce ghosting and blurring effects, and antireflective technology to improve outdoor playability. The screen draws more current than the screen for the PSP-2000, initially causing a reduction in the console's battery life by "about 20 minutes" according to SCEA director of hardware marketing John Koller. However, he released a statement retracting this comment, saying that, "the screen of the new PSP draws a little more power" but he claims that, "our engineers in Japan worked to reduce the power consumption of the overall system including its components." It has an integrated microphone, the goal of which is to establish the PSP as "a viable communication device" according to Sony Europe boss David Reeves. PSP games will now be playable on interlaced (non-progressive scan) televisions via composite video cables.[1] The start and select buttons have changed from semi-circles to ovals, with the home button being replaced by a "PS Button" similar to the PS3's Dualshock 3.

| O2 XDA II mini | the Mini is not leaps and bounds away from a regular Pocket PC. What is refreshing about this PDA-phone hybrid is that it's now in a familar candy bar form factor with its buttons laid out in a centric cluster. This clean presentation of its faade coupled with a screen that's larger than those present in most mobile phones are design traces that tie it back to its XDA heritage. And because of its generous 2.8-inch LCD screen, the XDA II mini is quite wide. However, it is still very manageable when compared to its XDA brother. This improved manageability is due to the 20% reduction in screen size over the typical 3.5-inch LCD screen found on Pocket PCs. | |

| laptop | LAPTOP BUYER'S GUIDE FAQ
How much will I pay for a new laptop today?Expect to pay between US$1,000 to $2,500 for a new laptop with decent features. Laptops are cheaper than ever, and used laptops can be quite a bargain if you're looking for something to write your papers on in college. A big piece of what you are paying for is the LCD screen that comes built in. As LCD prices drop, so will laptop prices.
What is a laptop? When we say laptop we're talking about a computer that weighs between four and eight pounds and can be carried in your briefcase. There are really only two types of laptops: larger, bulkier laptop units weighing in at around seven or eight pounds, or smaller, fully powered notebooks that weigh in at about four pounds and that may lack a built-in CD and floppy drive.
A laptop is about the size of a ream of paper and folds open to allow you to view the screen and access the keyboard. Lately, there's been a trend in high-end notebooks to increase the form factor beyond the normal 8.5" x 11" size. This has been spurred on by the availability of larger 15" and 16" diagonal screens.
There are smaller computers like the growing subnotebook market, and PDAs but we're not going to include them in this article. Subnotebooks are smaller than notebooks, weighing in at only a couple of pounds without a full VGA or SVGA screen but with a full keyboard. Of course, it's not a full-sized keyboard, it just has all the keys. PDAs are even smaller than subnotebooks and often don't even have a keyboard. Most interface with a touch screen and stylus that allows for OCR and gets used to your writing style.
Should I buy a laptop or a desktop PC?If you need portability, you want a laptop. If you like to write papers or do your work in a library, the beach, or sipping Margarita's on your porch on a warm summer's day, think about getting a laptop. If you travel a lot, and do work on airplanes, get a laptop. If you don't have a lot of desk space, get a laptop. If you need a very high-powered workstation, don't want to pay a premium, or play a lot of 3D games, consider a desktop system instead. Laptops are always a step behind desktop computers in speed due to the necessity of fitting everything into such a small case and keeping heat levels and power consumption to a minimum. If you like the idea of upgrading your computer piece by piece, get a desktop system. Laptops are much less upgradeable than desktop systems.
How do I use the guide? You can simply follow the recommended or minimum components, or you can dig deeper and click on the components in the left hand column to get a detailed analysis of each component. Also, on the recommendations page, there are best pricing links to different laptops and laptop accessories so you can shop or compare prices all right here.
