When is the best time for a child to sleep alone?

youless @youless (114080) • Guangzhou, China 30 May 07

I am wondering when it's the best time for a child to sleep alone. My son is nearly 3 years old, but he doesn't sleep by himself yet. I guess maybe it'll take few years for him to sleep alone. Please share your views, thanks.
