While having my hair done @ a parlor yesterday, I read a magazine article about 1000 places that need to be seen before one dies. Some places were truly captivating. As soon as I reached home, I started to list all places I wanted to see before I die. There was a weird feeling since the last thing I want to discuss is about death - particularly my death! But I guess since the "D" word is inevitable, so I have my list, though many times shorter that 1000. Here are some of the places I want to see before I die:Locally: 1. Boracay Beach 2. Dakkak Beach 3. Cebu 4. Puerto Galera (But hopefully this April as we celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary my family will go there! Yehey!!!) 5. Vigan, Ilocos Sur 6. Palawan 7. Pearl Farm,Davao 8. Banawe Rice Terraces Gee! I never knew I still have A LOT to see here in my country! Now, for other places, here are my choices: 9. India - where the movie "CITY of JOY" was shot 10. Japan - though my hubby already went there so many times. i like to see the cherry blossoms 11. China - where the Great Wall of China is located 12. Bali, Indonesia 13. Thailand 14. Nepal 15. Korea 16. HongKong Disney Land 17. Where the Blue Danube is located 18. The mountains of Austria where the Von Trap family set their feet 19. Germany- particularly the concentration camps 20. Holy Land 21. Switzerland 22. Greece - everything about Greece!!! 23. Rome, Italy! 24. Some parts in France 25. England 26. New Zealand 27. Sweden 28. Columbia 29. Spain 30. Venezuela 31. The Big Apple 32. Chicago, IL 33. Blues Springs, Missouri where David Cook lived, 34. Las Vegas 35. Hawaii 36. Australia 37. Monaco 38. South Africa 39. Any beaches where I can swim with the dolphins or even with the whales if that is possible 40. A day with my mom just holding her, embracing her, tell stories with her...just enjoying my time alone with my mom. Thank you for sharing your list too!

Oh yes! Why haven't I thought of that? Taj Majal!!! My father loves travel so much and he moved me to love traveling as well. He already went ot India for some Business conference. He was introduced to some customs in your place and he was fascinated. With his stories alone, plus the "City of joy" movie and the "Heroes" TV Series... I just love your country.

Yeah, I have heard about this list of 1000 places. In fact, there is a documentary made based on the list on Discovery Channel. I never really got the chance to follow the series. But I would catch it when ever I can. Some of the places they been to are really exotic looking. You would never in your dreams ever know that they exist until we see the show. Very interesting. Hmm... coming out with a list of my own? Well, I will see if I can tonite when I get home after work!

ha ha ha ha ha... I have not really gotten around to getting my list done. But I do have a list of goals I want to achieve this year. http://gnmdoubletomillion.blogspot.com/2008/12/visual-board.html Does that count? Anyways, I am still thinking about the travel places. Only two on my list right now. Hong Kong and Japan. As to where exactly, it will take some time to list them now definitely.

Hi maximax, My eyes are still full with the images of these places. I can't sleep at all since I'm so awed by these places!!! And thank you for adding the islands here in the Philippines. Every year, my hubby and I make it a point to travel within the country and enjoy the beautiful sceneries. Last year, on our 9th Wedding Anniversary, we took our twin daughters in Baguio City, the Summer Capital of the Philippines. This year though, since it's gonna be our 10th, we wanted to make it special so though it will really stretch our budget, we wanted the kids to try Puerto Galera Island.

"1000 Places to See Before You Die" is a very good book. Or at least what I have read of it. The lady at the bookstore was giving me funny looks so I had to eventually put it down and move on. I guess I will have to buy myself a copy. One thing I have noticed though, is that most of the people who have responded so far have listed entire countries or cities. The book, however, breaks it down into specific sites, attractions or events. I suppose if you break it down that way then 1000 places may doable after all. That being said, I have my own "Bucket List" of things to see and do before my time on this earth expires: 1) New York City--I want to do the whole tourist thing: Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Central Park, dinner at Tavern on the Green, FAO Schwartz and buy myself something at Tiffany's while I'm at it. 2) England--all of it, as much as I can take in during one visit. I want to know the land of my ancestors. London is a must; Stonehenge is a given, but I also want to explore the countryside that inspired the great authors and poets. 3) Australia--again, as much as I can take in. It is a big country so repeat visits will likely be necessary. I'm willing to make that sacrifice. 4) Walt Disney World--I have to take the kids there at least once before they grow up. 5) Paris--ah, the dining, the fashion, the museums...I have seen it in movies so many times it seems familiar. I want to experience it in person. 6) The Great Pyramids in Egypt--I have been fascinated by Ancient Egyptian culture since I was very young. I want to see the Sphynx and stand among the ruins that are thousands of years old. 7) Japan--a country with a rich and fascinating culture...traditional tea ceremonies, kabuki theater, Hello Kitty... 8) Machu Picchu, Peru--another ancient city with a fascinating history 9) San Francisco--this city always looks so beautiful in movies. I can't imagine myself not loving it. 10) Vancouver--although I lived here for five years as a child, I know it has changed dramatically since then. I want to see what has changed, what stayed the same and take my children to see where I grew up. 11) Dubai--one of the most over-the-top cities in the world. I believe that Dubai is becoming the next Las Vegas. I'm sure I will have to see this place to believe it! 12) Las Vegas--speaking of over-the-top I can't pass up "Sin City" 13) Belgium--they make chocolates there. Do I need another reason? 14) Buenos Aires, Argentina--if I want to learn to tango, this is the place! 15) China--I want to see the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City and the Terra Cotta Warriors near Xian. 16) Costa Rica--I have a friend who visited and loved it so much she decided to move there. 17) Russia--I want to see Moscow and travel the Trans Siberian Railway 18) Mount Rushmore--amazing to think about, but probably even more impressive in person. 19) Tanzania--home of the Serengeti, Mount Kilamanjaro and other sites that people associate with Africa. 20) Hawaii--lush tropical beauty and Magnum PI. What more could I ask for in paradise? 21) Mexico--not just self-contained all-inclusive resorts either--I want to experience the culture and the history. I want to see Mayan pyramids, witness an active volcano and buy silver jewellery from the silversmiths at Taxco. 22) Holland--years ago I had a pen pal from Holland who send me several travel books with glossy colour photos. I have been captivated ever since. 23) New Zealand--I'm sure it is as beautiful as it looks 24) Canada's East Coast--for all the places I have lived in throughout Canada, I have never been east of Ottawa. I must change that. 25) Vermont/New Hampshire--stunning scenery, the Ben & Jerry's factory and an area known as "Antique Alley". I'm going shopping! 26) Switzerland--Another beautiful Eurpoean country that makes chocolate. Of course I must go! 27) The Grand Canyon--one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world 28) The Atlantis Resort at the Bahamas--I have heard this place is incredible. 29) Florence, Italy--so steeped in history, I'm sure the whole city could be considered a museum 30) Hong Kong--a unique blend of Eastern and Western traditions. 31) Washington DC--there is a lot to see here but I especially want to visit the Smithsonian 32) The French Riviera/Monaco--I want to soak up the sun where all the Parisians go for their vacations. 33) The ruins of Pompeii--the excavated ruins offer a snapshot of life in a Roman village in the 1st century 34) Hershey, Pennsylvania--it's all about the chocolate! 35) A cruise to the Antarctic--just to say I've been to the bottom of the world! I'm sure I could add more to the list but I think that's a good start for now. I'd better start saving my money! I have places to go and things to do.

I'm sure you will be adding more here since you are so fascinated with traveling as well. We have the same choices there. And I love your choice like the Hershey in PA and Belgium. What a sweet tooth you probably got there! I wish you save more money to support your travels. These are all fantastic places! Happy myLotting!

Thank you! I enjoyed reading your list, too. And yes, we seem do have many of the same choices. I wouldn't say I have a sweet tooth so much as a chocolate tooth. Candies, I can take them or leave them but I can't imagine life without chocolate. The richer, the darker the better. So any destination famous for fine chocolate must be included in my list. Like you, I'm sure my list could grow much, much longer. The ones I listed are just for starters. But if I can manage to at least complete my list before I die then I will be happy. Good luck with your accomplishing your travel goals!

That's a great list and I hope you start taking care a couple of those as soon as you can! When I was younger, I never really had much interest in going to see other places in the world. But as I get older it is becoming much more of an interest. I would love to go to Ireland, see the ancient ruins in Italy and Greece, go and see the castles in England, France and Scotland.... There are just so many things I'd like to see. First though I should see some of the wonders in the US, like the Grand Canyon. On a personal note, I live in Chicago and think it's a really great place to be.

Thank you, uicbear! I think traveling is a rewarding experience and you can gain much more in learning with traveling than anything being offered inside the classroom. I have seen movies shot in Chicago and read novels from your state and I got interested. I hope, before I close my eyes, I will be able to step on Chicago streets, wandering around with my twin daughters.... Thanks again!

Lovely! I am glad that you shared this Margaux! And it feels great when it mentions, The City of Joy, which is my City and where the film was shot! You are most welcome to my city anyday. You will be surprised to know that I have traveled very little as yet and wish to cover the treasures of nature that my country blesses us with. It would be stupidity not to unravel those glorious monuments and beautiful hills, Himalayas, Sea and the deserts. And then. I would like to travel untrodden lands.I love natural beauties and more virgin and undissected it is I find it more appealing. And only to come back to my mom's heavenly abode - that's the best of all.

Hi Mimpi, As with all of your comments, I truly appreciate your sincerity. We're on the same page to be in our mom's warmest embrace. Especially in my case that my mom is alreayd in an advanced stage of Alzheimer. She doesn't know us nor recognize us at all. The only person whom she can talk to is my father whom she loves so much until now. I can see it in her eyes...

I've been to New York City, Chicago, Las Vegas and Hawaii and I hope that you will get to go sometime as each one of them is a fabulous place in its' own right. Please add Laguna Beach or Malibu in Southern California and you will see all of the dolphins that you would like to see. I'm not sure about swimming with the whales but we do have a lot of whale watching trips off of our coast. So many places on your list appeal to me. I would like to visit Italy, France (probably more the countryside although I suppose that everyone must see Paris), england, Australia and Monaco. I also would love to visit the Atlantic Maritime provinces of Canada, particularly Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy region. I think that I would like to visit Alaska again as well. I think that I will throw New Zealnad on to the list as long as I'm dreaming. One of the great places on the 1000 places list is the Ice Hotel. There's one in Canada and one in Europe I believe. The entire hotel is built each year out of ice. Of course when the weather warms it melts so each year it is quite unique. Quite expensive but what an experience. I hope that you get to travel to every one of the places on your list.

I am very into traveling. I think everyone should have their own personal list based on what they like, and try to see as many places from that list as possible.
