I have been looking at the things that the children watch on the tv and they seem to keep repeating their things that they watch, the same as they do for us adults that they keep repeating. So i am thinking of getting a few dvds so that we all can sit down and watch as a family.Things like toy story, etc.I get fed up of all the repeats, so i am sure that the children gets bored as well.

That is so nice that you sit down with your kids and watch tv. I usually dont. I put in a movie for them and then do what I need to do. I dont like sitting and watching tv. I dont actually have cable we just have movies. I hate when parents watch soap operas and other shows that are bad influences in front of their children. Then the kids pick up those crazy things that are going on. My kids watch only movies that I feel are acceptable and seeing that we dont have cable they cant change the channel to something that they want that I wouldnt like them watching.

@rebelann wow this sure is an old post. My kids and I went for a walk every day in a stroller and to a playground to play. Now at 16 and 13 they have very different interests. My son goes outside as much as he can't play his guitar in the fresh air. My daughter pretty much stays in her room all day on her laptop .

When I was a young teen mom couldn't get me to come indoors .... well, TV wasn't that interesting back then with only 3 channels to choose from.

Repeats? We have cable and so many different things to chose from. Kids rarely get bored with repeats. The third TOy Story was good and The Shrek films were good too. If you haven't seen the UP movie you should. It was so cute and my grandson loved it. Repeats are boring aren't they? I like to rewatch things I like but not everything.

I totally agree on the boredom thing. There are alot of cute christmas stuff on right now. Repetition is a good learning tool. I like to see the good ones over and over. Not on the same day though. Well, sometimes. Hehe

I feel that children get as bored as an adult seeing the same old things on the tv.Right now i have my four boys and the husband watching some santa claus thing, called Fred Claus on the tv and they are laughing, so this is great, as it is something different to watch.Makes a change for them all to sit here quiet. So i am now thinking of getting a few christmas dvds for a start. No doubt this will be on another time, as in repeated another load of times.

I would never recommend the Shrek movies for younger children. I know that sounds weird but I have little people and everything they watch is either G rated or (after being previewed) PG. That includes cable tv. As far as educational tv such as Dora or Sesame Street repeats are good as that is how children learn best. Both of my boys have a basic grasp of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese thanks to Nick Jr (formerly Noggin). Althoough I do agree that when the station is showing the same "Holiday" special 3x's per day is a bit much.

The best Made for the whole family movie I have seen was The Incredibles! First I must clear thi up. I am not a parent , never will be. I usually shun the made for the whole family genre All together but I saw this film and Loved it. It is a cartoon . there ismild violence but the comedy is good And it has a great message. See if you can rent it.

I think that dvds are good priced at the moment,I have seen aload of dvds that are for sale and in sales and they are just as cheap to buy like they are to rent. There are even dvds on Ebay that are being sold in bundles that have never been used, so i may buy some of those, get stocked up.

You are right there.I had a group of children come round this week and i will say that all we watched was the same old childrens stuff as what we had watched before.I mean how many time do they repeat these childrens things.I have also found this with all the adults programs that i have been watching, or should i say listening to while i have been on the pc.I think i may get that toy story 3 that they have out and a few others for when i have my friends children round, sounds a great film for all ages if you ask me.

It is great to select what you will actually watch by using dvd s. It lets you bring good things to your life and keep out things that you do not want in your life. You may find things that you want to watch every year and build your own family traditions. Have fun doing the family viewing.

My daughter gets bored watching television too. I like to keep plenty of movies and stuff around for her to enjoy. I think that you have a good idea to get DVD's for the family to watch.

I think that they put repeats on all the time for both us adults as well as the children. We have some dvds that the children have watched alot of times, so we are going to get a load more, so that we can sit as a family and watch them.

With younger children it has been proven that repetition is key in getting them to learn because they learn by repeating things. However, as children get older, they aren't intersted in the repetition that was once so key to them when they were younger. That said, we are trying to build an extensive library of movies to allow our children to watch, especially during this time of the year where it is too cold to really spend a lot of time outside.

Hi jugjugs!. Last week one of my cousin who just 7 years come and stay with us for a week and one thing I notice she can watch the same cartoon movie over and over. I find thats quite odd and if I were in her place I will be really boring. So I that week we try to distract her from TV by going to mall so she can play in playground and eat, she is truly picky eater. I think kids this day more and more atach to TV if not watch a movie on it or playing PlayStation.

That sounds like a good idea to have something ready to watch for her when she comes to stay with you.I think that there are always repeats on no matter when you watch the tv and what channel you watch.I am going to get a load of dvds, that are ok to watch with all of the family.

I'm never bored with the same things on tv. I don't get much time to watch them and so it's a good thing for me. I get to catch up on those segments i missed. It's bad in a way too because i don't get to watch it in full, so i can't really understand what's going on. In the case of many others, it's really boring to see the same things repeating day in day out. It just makes life more meaningless when tv is supposed to be a form of entertainment.

Sometimes, children are watching too much television or they are playing too many video games, and they just need to take a step back and do something else.

My children and I didn't watch much TV but they really loved Barney, a stupid show I could barely stand but I watched it with them anyway. Mostly, we played games and played with toys like cars and trucks, we would build roads and stuff. Mr. Rogers and Barney were about all they were allowed to watch. Their dad was a TV junkie and watched it constantly when he was home-he and the boys aren't very close, they never interacted much. I think getting some videos of family movies is a good idea. Almost everything you do in your home should involve the whole family. The more involved you are, your kids will get close to you and remain that way when they are grown. I don't think TV is good for people because it tends to isolate them but you can also use it as a way to bring the family together.

It is interesting to see what children will choose to watch on tv. they do seem to pick the same kind of programming over and over again. Once they find something they enjoy watching, they will stick to it. I think adults are a bit more choosy in their viewing habits.

I've noticed that too and it especially happens around the holidays. Just like on television the other day they showed one movie all day long on Thanksgiving Day, I mean really who wants to watch just one thing all day long. I know that that day is very busy and most people don't get a chance to sit and watch a whole movie but you don't have to play it like fifty times that day on one channel. It is getting bad and what I do is like you just get some DVD's and watch them or play a game with my family.

I just limit my kids in watching cartoons from the cable tv. It's true they are just purely repetitions of program that's why kids can easily abrorb everything. I only chose programs where my kids can get educational values. And it's a good idea that you watch dvds with your kids. My kids also love watching dvds atleast they have options.
