Why Am I Here? No Not A Philosophical Question But Those Senior Moments

I was watching this funny video of a woman singing a song to the tune of Memory from the Broadway show and found myself laughing just a little too much for comfort. I like to think I have a great memory. I'm the type that if someone says something to me, I can remember it for years...ah, but then I have those senior moments. Have you ever walked into a room with some intent in mind, and once in the room completely forgot why you were there? Or how about putting something away for "safe keeping" and it was so safe you forgot where you put it? Don't ask how many times this has happened to me. For instance, I have a special scissors that I use for my crafts, well it became missing for ages, tore the place apart looking for it. A good long time passed, half a year maybe, and I was cleaning up one area of a room and viola, there they were. Then I was trying to find a second set of my house keys. Same thing, couldn't find them for nothing until I cleaned and reorganized this one cabinet I have and the eerie part if that for the life of me don't even remember putting them there. So how about you? Tell me your senior moments, I don't want to feel like I'm the only one who has them. For your viewing pleasure, here's that video I was talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzSaoN2LdfU

Hi. I have senior moments too. I like to think it is because I am getting older (It is my 51st birthday today (1/31) and boy do I feel old now). Of course it doesn't help that I am having a cancer recurrence right now as well. I remember when I was walking into my classes unprepared, I would tell my Chinese students I was having a senior moment but I had to explain the concept to them because they aren't familiar with many English idioms. It did give me an excuse for some of my unpreparedness. But seriously, I have lost many things at different times and I would find them in the same manner as what you describe. I just hope that I can get my life back again. Have a great day!

First of all I'm sending some healing thoughts your way and hope you finally beat cancer. Funny you should mention our usage of words or terms that another culture might not understand. Sometimes that can happen even in different regions here in the USA What might have one meaning say in the northern area of US has no meaning or a different meaning down south

I know what you mean about words having different meanings in the south. When I moved to North Carolina back in 1998, I always thought it was funny when people talked about being "carried" to somewhere. I was always used to hearing they were being taken somewhere or something like that. Only babies and small children were ever carried where I came from. I came to realize that carried was used differently there than what I was used to. I just thought that was funny.

Just so you know, those aren't always "senior" moments. I've been doing these things since I can remember, & my memory goes back to my babyhood--one year or less old! Who hasn't done these things might be a better question! There! Feel better now? Well, I tried! Oh yes....I have those moments where I walk into a room and forget what I am there for.....and another...going to the grocery store without a list. I can go for three things, find the first two then wander around aimlessly trying to remember the third thing I went there for! I hate when that happens....or any other store...getting home and finding you forgot what you went for! The golden years isn't for sissies!

Ha. ha! I have so many "senior moments" like that I start thinking they are normal moments. Have started thinking of found objects as special surprise gifts instead of lost items. At least I remember stashing them there for safety and convenience once I find them, and it usually happens as soon as I replace the items. My husband just says I'm a blond. I don't remind him that he "loses" more things than I do. Hang in there. Can't say it gets better, but it does get more tolerable.

That's a great way of looking at those senior moments that when we find something we put in a safe place as a gift...I'm hoping for a gift...somehow I can't find a very small charm to a necklace that must have fallen off the chain---so maybe one day doing some cleaning I might find it. Who knows maybe my cat found it and batted it under the sofa or somewhere like that

Oh, I know about senior moments! I will get a new tab to go to another site and go to type in the site's URL and as I go to do that I forget where I was going. Do this all the time! It is frustrating and exasperating. Usually in afew moments it comes to me and go along my merry way.

I try to "bookmark" everything, or at least I used to, until one day I was looking at ALL my bookmarks and must have had a zillion of them. Think I need to delete a lot of them that have no meaning for me now...uh, but that would take forever

You have been peeking at my house. I call them "Hereafter" moments. I go into a room and say "What am I here after?" I know I have been finding missing things, but right at this moment I cannot remember., I have been cleaning and reorganizing a room. It is like meeting up with old friends. When Bob and I were first married I got him a really nice sweater and dress slacks, and put them away for Christmas. It was a year before I found them.

I'm trying to find a charm from a necklace that I wear and somehow went MIA on me...I KNOW it's around here somewhere, ah, but where? I'm hoping to find it on one of my heavy duty cleaning chores

I'm with ya, Pye! When that happens, I go around the room and look at things hoping that by looking around I'll have my memory jogged.

I'm beginning to think that as soon as a thought hits me, like wanting to go to a room to get something I need to write it down, that way if I forget, just look at my notes to jog my memory

OMG, I could write a book about my senior moments...lol! I think I have a lot of them while online because I'd meant to respond to this discussion when you first started it but I kept getting distracted by other stuff. I keep getting "stuck" in Cityville since I got hooked on that game! I can't tell you how many things I've hidden...from MYSELF! I also sometimes find myself drawing a total blank when I'm trying to think of a certain word or name. Then, later on, when I'm no longer trying to think of it, it will pop into my mind like magic! i forget what i'm saying sometimes in the middle of the sentence,as i'm saying it. if that isn't a senior moment,i don't know what is. BUT as long as i remember eventually what it was,i'm good.i'll only be scared when it doesn't come back LOL

Hi there Pye, I've been having those "senior" moments for my entire life! When I was in high school I hid a 50.00 bill in my Alice In Wonderland book set. I came across that in my 20's. I am always always misplacing things or forgetting what I went to the store for. Once I got up and ran my daughter to school after she had missed the bus. I was still in my PJs and I don't work until 2pm but still, I kind of came to reality about half-way into work. thankfully I didn't drive all the way in...still in my PJS plus it is out of town and would have been a total waste of gas and time and I'd never have heard the end of it. I could go on and on but I think i've revealed enough to know that you are definitly not alone with the senior moments.

I go into rooms and forget why I went there. Often put things away where I'll find them only to not remember where I put them so I can't find them. Those mements are getting more and more frequent all the time.

Hey pye! Nice to see you! Oh you are definitely not alone in any of those things. I am constantly going into a room and forgetting why I went there. And I "hide" things from myself and then have no idea where I "hid" them! It can be really frustrating. If it's "senior moments" then I'm definitely a "senior" and not too happy about either. But, there's not much we can do about. I was thinking early this evening if by chance I might have "hidden" any more "cash" somewhere from myself that I might have "forgotten" about, but nope! That I'm pretty sure I would remember! Darn...

LOL--I actually did find money once. I have no idea when I put that "extra" $20 in this storage container, but one day when I was reorganizing it, there the bill was...what a happy surprise as it turned out at the time I was low on money

I don't really think that what I do can be considered a "senior moment" as I am not that old. It is more like a "scatter-brained" moment or "easily distracted by shiny objects" or something like that. I will walk into a room to do something or get something, and I will see something else that requires my attention, so I will take care of it. Then, I will walk out of the room and realize that I never did or got whatever I went into the room for in the first place. Unfortunately, that happened to me no less than three times the other day. The only thing I have to give as an excuse is that I have a little one that was very distracting that day.

when I was a young file clerk for the state, I had a rep that would come in and say it was like she was hit with a mental eraser when she walked into the door of the file room. I had another who sang the alphabet song every time...

Oh yeh, I've done this a million times. Right now my vacuum belt broke and I KNOW I have one somewhere but for the life of me, can't remember where I put it. And that would be something put in a special place for easy finding, hahaha! I know I'll come across the belt probably a year from now after buying a new one. I also get side-tracked constantly. I go to clean in one room and end up taking something to another room, and get stuck in that room instead. Then I go back to the first room and think, oh yeh, I was suppose to clean in here..duh. Or I go to the store for something in particular and never come out with it, just everything else under the sun. Ahhh, those senior moments are just wonderul.

Even though I still think I have a good memory, I'm getting senior moments more frequently these days. I was thinking about the musical with Natalie Woods one day. It was in New York and I could picture some of the scenes and song -- just couldn't think of "West Side Story." Sometimes a certain word I want escapes me -- I wanted the word "acronym" and could define the word, just couldn't think of the word! Sometimes I forget names of very familiar people -- hate when that happens! I'm sure I have many other senior moments -- just can't think of them right now.

Oh dear, how I can relate! I was talking about this to my girlfriend who is four years older than me. She assures me that reaching menopause aggravates the old memory. Great! I was wondering what the heck was wrong with me! The walking into a room with no recollection of why I entered it in the first place is very common for me just like forgetting the names of not just people but things as well…The other day I found the earrings I had been looking for in my pantry and I swear I have no idea how they got there! Loved the video, by the way...

I know where you are coming from! The last few months I have had my senior moments! I have lost a set of keys(apt. and car on them) and have not yet found them! Lost a $100.00 moneyorder and $12.00 on winning lottery tickets and never found them! I tore up my apartment looking for those things with no luck! Then I misplaced my gas card! I didn't have it on me to buy gasoline one time and ended up using cash which I forgot I had on me! The darn card was in my other coats pocket I found out a few days later! I know some of this has to get being older but some of it for me is being very disorganized! I try to be but I never can be! It is very frustrating ! Yikes!

You are NOT alone! I forget things all of the time. The funny part is my ex used to think I remembered everything. That doesn't say much for his memory. I am always forgetting why I went in the room or where things are. I know I will do that, so I try and keep things in the same place. I was looking for something (now I don't remember what) and it wasn't where I usually keep it. I found it in the next likely spot. I don't remember putting it there or why. When I am talking with friends I always forget to tell them something. I have to call them when I think of it. I make lists and set things on the kitchen counter, so I will see them when I leave. Sometimes I still forget! The video was very funny and unfortunately true.
