On the way to church this morning i saw 3 patches of buttercups. I just love them & they always make me think spring is not far away when i see them. I would have really liked to have stopped & picked me a bouquet & they were off to themselves & not in anybody's yard but i was a little pushed for time after church because i was going out to eat w/mycousin. How many of u like buttercups??

First I need you to define "buttercups." The little yellow kind? Or the pink ones? Both are called that, & I'm not sure why!
I have several Spring flowers I love...daffodils & Narcissus, Rain Lilies, & those pink buttercups are among my favorites.

Here in the South & Southwest, a weed grows that has the sweetest pink blooms. The blooms have delicate petals, & are rather large, maybe up to 3, 3 & a half inches across, but the stems are rarely more than 8 inches high. They look like little innocent flower girls, & are part of the wondrous panoply of Texas wildflowers. Many people here call them buttercups, but some call them primroses. I rather suspect that's their true name.

Good morning, buttercups are yellow here, One of my faves. I have never seen a pink one either. Bet primroses are the right name. I think the main reason i like them so much is that they are a sign of spring & that's my favorite time of the year. Thanks for responding.

I only know the yellow ones and have never heard of pink buttercups. They must look so beautiful. Where I am living there is no Spring or autumn. Just summer and not so hot summer. It is cooler in the 'winter' and the temp goes down to just under 70 degrees f at night. we di have rain though and sometimes tropical storms and hurricanes so there is always a weather trade off wherever you live.

The sign that Spring is coming. I used to love buttercups and, as children, we would put them under each other's chin and if there was a shadow of yellow then if would be 'proof' that that child loved butter! You have resurrected a few memories. Do you have snowdrops and daffodils too? Daffodils were a sign that Spring is really here in the U.K. when I was a child.

@Anique lady. I have had a great weekend because I took the weekend off and turned of the ring on my phone. I actually kept the darn thing in my bra and when it vibrated took a quick look to see who was calling and if it was work related then did not take the call. So I feel so rested. Rachel and Jo did the cooking so it was a pleasant break for me. Rachel on her way back to Town and Jo is attending a fund raising dinner that his supporters are putting on for him - a fund raising event.. I am having a lazy evening on Mylot for a while - really great.
@BarBaraPrz: I looked at where you came from. I am not quite sure which country introduced this looking under the chin thing

I think they are quite pretty and always a hargringer of spring. I saw a robin in the yard this week which gave me hope that the winter is gone. However, the past two days have been rather cool. But I do believe that the harsh winter weather for these parts of the country is gone. Now, up north around New York, I think they were getting snow this week-end.

We probably do not have the buttercups lime you mentioned here in Texas, but we do have many native and non-native flowers. I have not been out in the country to see what might be blooming, but I have daffodils and thrift blooming in my yard now. Shortly there will be bluebonnets, larkspur and other spring flowers. When I was a child in Oklahoma, I called all yellow flowers buttercups.

I like crocuses myself. I am really not into the buttercups, tulips and such. They are so common and we have hords of them here this time of year. I like the lilacs, crocuses and dogwood. I did like the tulips my mother grew one year though. They were red and ruffled around the edges. They were very different and pretty. I liked them!

Buttercups may not be in these parts of the world I live in. But I know what they look like, I have just never seen or touched any up close. But this reminds me of that real good song I always hear on the radio. If you know what I'm saying, the song goes something like this.. Why do you fill me up (fill me up) Buttercup, baby, Just to let me down (let me down)and mess me around, And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby, when you say will (say you will) but I love you still, I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin', You know that I have from the start, So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart. Brings back ol memories. The song was performed by a band known as The Foundations in the late 60's. Really cool song. If one can write a song about buttercups, something what some people call their better half and depicts it as good as it sounds, then buttercups are as sweet lookin' as the song. Yaaay!

Oh yes, I love them as well as many other flowers. I love the spring time with all of the gorgeous colors all over. The fields full of all colors I just love love love them, lol.
I have lots of packets of seeds and bulbs. I can hardly wait for it to warm up enough for me to be able to plant them for my property to have them here.

I have loved all kinds of flowers since I was very young. I would plant sunflowers every year since I was 3 years old. I still love gardening and especially flowers. It seems like flowers remind me of different people. Bill, my boyfriend is a rose, because he is so sweet and giving. Roses always have given me great joy. Carnations are a second love of mine and they always remind me of my Mom. She was small and spicy. I could go on, as the list would be very long. Paper whites are my first indication of Spring here in California. Then the almond trees bursting into bloom in February are the positive indication that Spring is on its way.
I would love to have butter cups in my garden but getting the seed is another thing, I would have to order the seed (or is it bulbs) early and I haven't made my seed order yet for this year. I have been turned loose on a vacant area in my complex to create a park..I am having a great time planning it. The big problem is making sure that I put in plantings that deer aren't partial to. I'll post pictures as the garden progresses. It's too bad you were rushed and you couldn't take the butter cups home to enjoy even longer.

One of my grandmothers loved sun flowers. She use to plant them in her garden. She was like u & loved all flowers & loved to fool w/them. She always had beautiful ones to. I love them but don't like to fool w/them. I didn't have time when i worked & not able to get out & dig now. Your park will be pretty, i know. Will be looking forward to pictures of it. Thanks for responding.

Hate to say it ... but we do the butter things here with "dandelions" and of course, everyone loves butter, cause we touch their neck lightly while checking and they are covered in pollen...LOL! Even the deer won't eat the dandelions!

I am truly sorry...this discussion truly slipped away on me...some-how it was so buried in my "Outlook Xpress" that I was just deleting all the older stuff and found this...truly, sorry!
ANY flower, that is the harbinger of spring...a sign of warmer times to come, I AM SORRY...they are my favourite...for the day & time. I truly am..just a flower lover..and they truly are signs of Spring. I feel so sorry, for my little crocuses that have survived the deer. They really are trying, there is one really dark purple, one mauve, one dark yellow..and one white trying to hard to be beautiful...and to me they truly are.
I am not sure, the flowers we call here, are the true & beautiful "buttercups" you have! Two days in a row, I have seen towns of TN on the T.V., what an absolutely breathtaking state! 1 person likes this
