Dear Mylotters Many of you have different methods to dispose off the garbage at home/kitchen. For me, we are keeping the waste in a separate bin and a person comes in the morning to pick those and we are paying to that person on monthly basis. The problem is, this person is not regular on his work, sometimes he just disappeared ( for 3-4 days) and it creates problem for us. If we ask the reasons for his disappearance once he comes back then he might have plenty of reasons, sometimes somebody got ill at home, or was attending marriage or himself was sick etc. Ok I have to agree these excuses because he is also a human being and need to attend his own problems too. In our village, people are making compost pit and gathered all the wastes in it then later it is using for garden to make the soil rich with nutrient. In fact disposing the waste is not at all a problem in villages, as there is animals and birds are keeping at home as a pet. The left over food will go for them of course and the waste will be very less to throw away. What about your way of dispose off the waste? Is there anybody comes home to collect all those? If yes, is that person is regular on his work? Are kids will come to collect the garbage? Will you go yourself to throw off the waste in place where garbage is collected? Please share your method, adopt for the disposal off waste from kitchen/home?

I worked with the municipality to arrange for house to house garbage removal which is now in operation but I need my garbage specially the wet garbage from which I produce compost. I have built an incinerator for the dry stuff and that ash I use again as fertilizer. The solid waste I have sometimes used as filler material for foundations to put up garden seats and other stuff in my garden.

dear sis, I live in metro city where there were garbage truck that collects our garbage everyday. The schedule time is at night time. All we need to do is sealed the plastic bags and put it in one place where the garbage truck will going to pick the garbage. There are also some utilities who are knocking at doors early in the morning to collect the garbage. My kids always separate those recyclable materials, and bring to junk shops for some money, like tin cans, used paper, magazines, notebooks, books and the likes, plastic containers and a lot more. have a good day sis

Hello my dear sister, We are also in a metro but private people are coming to collect the garbage and they are visiting each and every house. They are charging higher for those who live in upstairs and it is really comfortable for us if they are regular on their work. When we return from village, I kept the waste outside as nobody reached to collect the waste till I leave the home for work. In the evening it was there and on inquiry in upstairs and downstairs people I came to know that they disappeared for a month and they are going to the garbage disposal place to throw the same. Then the next day I find out another person who collects the near locality because I don’t have time to go for this work too. Anyway the disappeared person came in last week and he didn’t forget to ask the money, I got really angry, he said, he was under the impression that somebody (he asked to some people) got off the waste. It seems they are very much regular in your place and helping you people to make the place clean and tidy. Thank you so much dear sister, have a great day to you

yes my dear...there are also utility men who clean the roads the whole day. even the streets and keep checking for the garbage thrown everywhere as we know some people don't know how to use garbage bin. But in some cities, you will be penalized when caught throwing garbage at road or in public places. Besides, there were lots of garbage bin everywhere where you can put your thrash so you don't need to wait for the collector or the garbage truck.

Yes, our government has a dispose company which is called DBKL. They are responsible to collect rubbish everyday. But sometimes they also late for coming and dissappear for few days. I guess I can't complain much because it is free of service.

Hi wong, That is really great, your government is taking steps to dispose off the garbage and you people are enjoying the free service. Since the service is free you don’t have much right to ask if they are not regular but I think they must get money from government so asking about their absence is not unfair. We are paying every month then also I become quiet when hearing their excuses for the absence. Thank you so much for the quick start with my topic. Have a nice day.

There is a garbage collector here in our town but they only collect weekly.. That is the reason our wastes is piling. We segregate our thrash though from biodegradable to degradable. We recycle as much as we can like the plastics, bottles, etc. The collectors are being paid by our municipality but what I don't like is they still collect money from us. If we don't give them money, they will not collect our wastes. :(

Hello CJay, I think you have separate bin for recycle things and non-recycle things. In our place we are putting all in the same bin. Now winter is very harsh so these people very irregular. I am not asking anything to them because they are also human being and very difficult to do this wok in much cold weather. Thank you for your response. Have a nice day.

Here in Tiruppur(the place where I am living - Tamilnadu) everyday, a person(who as allotted by government) will come and collect those garbage from every home. For each and every ward, there will be one person who is responsible for collecting those garbage. so, we have no problem, early morning by 7 - 8 am he'll come and give a big bell, then we will dispose them off.

Hi Sree, the town council garbage truck will come and collect our garbage in plastic bags placed outside the gate from house to house twice in a week on time most of the time but not all the time We usually would get the garbage placed nicely the night before, for we don't want to miss the truck. If placing them in the morning we have to get them ready before 8am as the truck will come around that moment. If we miss the truck, we have to keep the garbage for another two or three days. My husband can't endure to wait for the next coming turn and will dispose the wastes himself. There is a huge garbage trolley somewhere at the nearby wet market. So it's still convenient for him to do so. It's really irritating that the garbage are found spreading awfully the next morning most of the time as these are the "masterpiece" done by the disgusting stray dogs To prevent such undesired situation to happen garbage in plastic bags seen hanging on gate, fence as well as roadside lamppost. Looks really indecent and unique eh...anyway it's better than nasty wastes are spreading here and there, some even worse with nauseous smell. Last time, about a year ago still could see two old women and a man searching for recycling stuffs from the garbage. People hated most to see one of the women never restored the garbage after her collection and she was scolded often for her irresponsibility. Here there are usually three workers, not including the driver in their uniform tshirt to do the garbage disposal. The situation was same as yours before that the truck never came on time especially there was any public holiday fell on the garbage disposal day. This had improved after lots of complains were made. I hope group complain from the affected residents in your place on the person for his inefficient and unsatisfactory performance could help in improving the waste disposal. Take care dear and happy posting

Hi dear, Your reply explains many things and similar experiences are with me too. If I kept the plastic bag outside the house and left for the office (if the person haven’t reached the place before my move) and in case he never turned for the day then it will be spreading here and there for giving me nasty welcome in the evening. Here the culprits are cats, they are big like dogs. Now what I am doing is, if the person doesn’t reach before my move then I kept the same inside kitchen to avoid the nuisance. Here some kids are busy to collect the recycle things but they are busy in lanes only and never come to upstairs but usually people are not encouraging them as they can’t trust them and scares that they stole something. I am overhearing the conversation of people by neighbourhood, asking for this particular man and complaints about his absence. Once I scolded the person I got much angry when he comes on the 4th day and he reply made me guilty, as he was busy with his wife and taking care of the new born. Thank you so much for your elaborated reply. Take care and have a great weekend. {Thank you so much for the wonderful greetings card)

I use a trash can in the house with a trash bag in it. When it gets full, I take it outside to the bigger trash can and set it out to the curb for trash pickup.

Hi Sree! We also follow more or less the same method. A person comes early in the morning and collects garbarge from our dustbins. He takes a weekly off, which is appropriate. I fully agree with you that if he does not turn up for 3-4 days, pile of garbage and fully loaded dustbins create problems for us. Sometimes, I myself go and carry the garbage in large plastic bag and dispose it off at bigger garbage dumps, maintained by MCD. We just cannot avoid garbage to pile up, we are in the habit of throwing so many things in the dustbins and they are required to be disposed of/cleaned at a regular basis, else it can give rise to diseases.

Hi deepak, I think you can understand my views more clearly as you are living in the same metro. The garbage dumps by MCD is situated in our place too but it is far way from my current house. I don’t feel comfortable to carry the garbage with me on my way to office. I have to visit the day care, to leave the food and cloths for my kids, means I am carrying all these things with me on my way to office. A weekly off is permissible as they are also human beings and have their own engagements. Here they are very irresponsible but on very particular in the last week of the month till the payment day (first day of the following month). Thank you so much for sharing your opinion. Have a great weekend.

I try to recycle things when I can, but I live in a rural area, and recycling centers are not easy to find here. I sell metal food cans, and aluminum foils at a scrap metal place, but it is hard to find places near where I live to take things such as newspapers and plastic or glass containers. As for what little food waste we have, the scraps go outside to the dog and cat. They usually eat the scraps up fairly quickly. A compost bin in a good way to get rid of food scraps as well. I know people here who do that, and they use the compost for gardening. Recycling is a good way to reduce wastes as well.

Hello goldeneagle, We are keeping the old newspapers separately, otherwise we just put all the wastes in the dustbin and the person who collect these wastes can earn a good money by selling things. I heard that they are making much money by this way. They are charging money from each home too for taking wastes. It is true if they are not regular in their job, it really trouble us. Thank you so much for your views.

Hi Srikool, I understand the way of you keep the garbage in the dustbin. Yes, if the concerned person does not come regularly then it will create problems. Living in city we have to depend upon these people o great extent, what to do? He may disappear all of a sudden and won’t come for 3-4 days, it may be due to unavoidable circumstances of the person, but it create great disturbance for us.

Sree beti When we had our old house, we had a garden on the back side, we had a compost pit there, all we used to dump there, this we used as manure in our veg garden, but this new one is big, no space left, we are supposed to keep the garbage in a polythene bag on the street in front this home, and the municipality sweeper is supposed to take it, but they are irregular, complant to health officer has no effect at all, the dogs scatter them on road.. So i have also employed one sweeper for 150 per month, he is supposed to collet from home and dump else where.. But he comes 20 days a month, at time drunk.. I am better these days, thanks for your care, i see my daughter in you.. Have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘@Bhuwan@’. .

I know if the waste is unattended in roadside then cats and dogs can scatter it then it another nuisance for us. Now a-days in our place the person is regular and he is taking leave on once in a weak that can be adjustable. Thank you so much for your kind consideration sir, I have not been around so the delay in reply. Take care of your health and mam's too. Hope the new angel and his mother returned to home by now.

Hi sreekala, how are you? Yes we are also paying to the person on monthly basis who will collect the garbage daily. But you know in village what they are doing is good even they are recycling the garbage and using for garden etc., actually this is nice thing rather throwing somewhere. In my place they do collect all the leaves which fall down from the trees and they burn, you know kala doing like this is somewhat good for the people and the environment because everyone knows leaves inhales carbon dioxide and leaves oxygen so when we burn the leaves we get oxygen, that is why most of the village people will burn the waste leaves. Even i do when early morning when i get up i see lot of leaves on the floor outside the house (especially in this season), all those i will sweep and burn, so that it will be cleaned as well as we get oxygen too.

Hi Jo, I am fine dear, I hope you too. (Got busy with works so not active in mylot recently). Burning leaves will help to get oxygen; I learned something from you now. In village it is a usual scene, especially in autumn season, we did it many times to clean the surrounding, plus the ashes are good for plants. Sweeping is a must in morning otherwise the courtyard will filled with dry leaves. Now I miss those days and that kind of works in this place. Thank you so much Jo, happy to see you again. Take care

Yeah i know it is difficult to dispose off the garbage. In India we have depend on other who came and dispose off our garbage and when he bunks it become real difficult. But here in north America we collect garbage in black and green plastic cover and on particular morning keep in front of house and government truck comes and takes it away. But if we have more and if we want, infact we can take our garbage to garbage collection area which is not far away and we can dispose off. It is not a big issue. Here if you want to do, no one mind and no one care. It is your own work. But in India people laugh on you if you dont hire garbage collector.

Hi smart, I have to agree with your point, if we go by ourselves to throw the garbage, people may think the person does not want to spend money or may think he/she is a miser. In my earlier house, I did it myself, as the person was not coming regularly, but now it is far away and difficult for me to dispose it my self. In big cities people hardly get time to think about others as they are busy with their own works. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a nice weekend.

In our Society too we have a boy coming to collect the garbage everday. And he too disappears very often. Since there is no one in my house the whole day the garbage cannot be kept for him. We have a big garbage can kept behind the building. So I put the waste in that can everyday. It makes clearing the garbage much easier for me that way. I dont have to keep the dustbin at the door waiting for the boy to come and collect it.

Hi dear, That is the problem with me. Since I am also leaving home for work, I have to keep the same outside in plastic bag. If the boy didn’t collect then cats may scratch the cover and scattered the things all around and it will be big job for me in the evening. Cats don’t do the same always but I have to be conscious on this. I asked those people try to come early before my move but they won’t listen. Now if they do not come in time, I won’t keep it outside as I don’t want to do the extra work in the evening. For you, the works seems easy as there is another option available. Thank you so much dear. Have great time.

I have a garbage collection service that comes once per week to pick up my garbage. Another truck picks up recyclable materials. I don't throw out much garbage, it is mostly non-food items. There is nothing in my house that goes uneaten! If I eat chicken and there are bones, I make broth. Anything I don't eat is put in the freezer to be made into soup or stew at a later date. I don't even have vegetable peelings because I leave them on as most of the nutrition is in the skins. I don't throw away items I don't want, either. I find a way to use them differently or I give them away to someone who needs them. Sometimes I don't even put the garbage can out on the curb because I only have half a bag full.

Hi dear, You are an excellent cook as you know how to use each and every part of the left over food. I know very well about your dogs and they can also help to finish the let over at home. Mine is a small rented flat, so I normally not keep any recyling materials as there space is very less in my house. I prefer to give the same to that boy who coming to pick the garbage. I know they are making money on them. I have some wastes from Kitchen on everyday basis. Thank you so much for your response. Have a great time dear.

I remember when I was young.. dispose garbage in the compost pit too. But now that the population has swollen, there seems to be no more vacant lot to dig compost pit. Now in the village where I stay, there is a garbage track that comes every day to collect garbage. We don't pay anything. This is just part of the amenities of being a homeowner in that village. Our left-over foods are always separated for my dogs and doves so I need not worry how to dispose them. Have a nice day!

Hi! Sreekala, As Wongchoiyee said, we have the government appointed company to collect the rubbish right up to our door 2 to 3 times a week. But we have to prepare or buy our own rubbish bin and have to pack our rubbish in a plastic bag, or else they will not collect the rubbish from our rubbish bin. I do know people who stay in village have to burn their rubbish because their rubbish do not collect by the government appointed company. And later, there are new rules that we have to make sure we separate our rubbish into a few items like glass, plastic or paper so that easy for them to recycle. But I don't think people will really do it or throw their rubbish that way because most of us here will actually separate it and sell those salable and recyclable rubbish to the recycle collector. Although that is not much but at least we can save some money for other things.

Hi yspmyl, Here also, there are some restrictions from government to keep the bio-gradable and non bio-gradable things separate. In streets they have provided separate bin for both items. But again the same thing is here, people hardly shows any interest to these suggestions and throw the things here and there. Many often they don’t care to drop in dustbin that is a sad part indeed. Yes, in village the people can take care about the garbage by their own and government do not appoint anybody or even private people are not collecting things for money. Thank you so much for your valuable response. Have a great weekend.

We have garbage service here. They take a large can of garbage for us, and another can of recycle. They are very reliable. It isn't just an individual, it's a large waste company that everyone in the neighborhood uses. I do like the idea of composting, but just have never done it. Our neighbors are really close and the smell might bother them. Also there may be a rule about it where I live. I haven't checked that out.

Hi RJlady, I am not sure about the garbage service works here. At home private people are coming to collect and they are charging money on monthly basis. I think they are disposing off it with the help of some big organization or with government system. Actually we are not bothered the system working behind it, we want to clear the garbage at home only and happy if it runs on daily basis. I think composting may work well in villages as they are owned more land and neighbours may be living away. In that case it won’t be a nuisance to anybody. Thank you so much for sharing your view points. Have a great time.
