Get off your butt!

So I have the bike, have I rode it yet? Nope sure haven't. Do I need to? Yep sure do. Now I'm thinking that I'll look ridiculous, though the other reasonings are good, I'll lose weight, be healthier, save the environment, rely on myself... Well I just can't get the bad thoughts out of my head. I think I need a famous Gibbs slap to be quite honest. Ever had this happen? Good things have been happening to me, now I need to help myself and let better things happen to me!

Yeah... I'd ride a bike but what's the point if you aren't going some place and there's no place I can go on a bike that I'd feel safe to leave it long enough to get something!

Same here, I wouldn't even feel safe walking around my block. Back in the 1960s I always felt safe, what's up with that?

@rebelann it isn't someone going after me that scares me, its all the insane drivers (and those without legal licenses) that scare me...

Here it's both but any woman walking alone especially in the late evenings is at risk @ElicBxn as for drivers, ever had to maneuver around drivers with Mexican license plates?

I have been on my bike once. I will not be working close enough to ride it to work if I get the job I applied for this week. My age fights against me, and my sedentary lifestyle. As far as good things happening, and me helping myself, shall we say that is the story of my life, not doing the thing that is best for me.

So who usually does whats good for them all the time? I'm sure you do some things that are totally good for you mixed with things you shouldn't do. I love to be on the computer but I know sitting and typing all day is unhealthy not to mention nothing ever gets done around here

As you may or may not know, I also recently got myself a bike. I've had it for just a little bit over a month. As much as I would like to think that having it makes me healthy, I still would need to take that extra step to get on it and go biking a way. So far, I think I have been on it for just about 10 times. I too need to get off my butt and get riding. May you find the motivation too!

Give me that bike and i'll surely ride it everyday! I've been planning to buy a good bicycle and i haven't found that one that would suit my qualification and budget. I used to ride a cannondale mountain bike owned by my brother, till he got lazy and sold it for a very cheap price to another person. I was too shy to tell him to give it to me instead. I can't afford a cannondale so i'm settling for one that suits my budget but it should be as good as that. I've been looking at some second hand bikes from Japan but my husband is so picky he would always tell me it's not so good at all. I used to ride going to the mountain with my husband and a group of male bikers for 90 kilometers uphill. It was really great then! But had to stop when i got pregnant and things got busy after that.

you can do it! you've got the first part down, getting the bike. I wouldn't worry about others seeing you, though I understand because I get embarrassed like that too. maybe you could find a secluded little park or something to ride around in? and who knows, maybe someone will see you and it'll inspire them to start riding a bike.

That's great to hear. That sounds about like me though. I buy things to exercise with and get into shape and lose weight and it just sits, while I work and do everything but exercise. I am too tired by the time I have time for it.

Don't worry bout what anyone is thinking! You are an adult, it's not your school years. I would think if anything (or I always hope they think this) you need to tell yourself just what you mentioned but that you are actually going to get up and try. I always hoped when I was exercising ect that someone was thinking hey she's not driving but walking... good for her! We are all too quick to get in our cars for the shortest jaunts out when we could possibly walk or take a bike.

Oh, pure poo! Get out on the bike before Summer is over or you will be sorry you didn't. Good things will continue happening. Try going in the morning. We have a green belt here and I used to take out in the morning and go nearly across town before I even realized it. It is so nice to ride and forget your cares. I love it!

LOL you and I both need to get off our butts! Though I have been biking a bit, but not enough at all. My excess weight is still making me feel tired, but at least once I get on the bike or walking I do feel a lot more energy Oh, and make sure you drink lots of water, especially in the summertime. It'll keep you hydrated, and also carry raw nuts with you for protein/energy, they're better than stopping at the local convenience store for a chocolate bar.

Well, you bought it, so i suppose you would like to ride it and reap the benefit of doing so. Bikes nowadays, are already liked because of its health benefit and it doesn't cost you on gasoline. Although, i prefer to dance as my exercise than to go biking. At least , it's only me in my bedroom, who knows that i am trying to shed some fat on my middle. But since you already have it, then ride it for your health. Good luck.

The truth is, the only thing that is going to make you get on that bike is some SERIOUS self discipline! What you need to do is just swallow your self-doubt and climb on that bike - chances are it will be a whole lot better than you thought it was going to be and you will probably really enjoy it! Let's hope this is the start of a whole new passion for you..

I share your sentiments... I am on the heavy side, so I didn't really dare ride a bike because I fear people around are going to make fun of me, but the responses are right... I guess we just have to do what we have to do. :)
