You don't have to have a reason

One reason why I don't go into religious debates is because I can't hold my own there, I don't feel like I should have to either. I am Christian and proud of it. I shouldn't have to explain how I came to be Christian, or how far my beliefs flow. I learn every day what it is to be a Christian, and I become more or less of a Christian as life goes on. Someone 20 years older then me could be less of a Christian then I am, in my eyes, but that doesn't matter, it's not what I think, it's what God thinks. Do You Agree? We shouldn't judge, it's hard not too, trust me. Just when I think I've stopped judging people, I get proven wrong. We can't stop our beliefs and feelings, we can't seem to stop judging. We can't always be happy... but that's Life, that's God helping us.

I think this is very well stated. I will not argue religion with people, as it is a waste of time and breath. I will speak respectfully to people of different religions, when they talk about their holidays and celebrations. I expect people to be respectful of me as well. Yes, I am a Christian, and I expect most people know that. I have friends here who are agnostic, atheist, Hindu, Muslim, probably Buddhist and who knows what else. And they are my friends. Just as silly, and maybe it is not done any more, but used two different protestant denominations would denounce Catholics or even other denominations. I sure am glad that God has not appointed me to judge people, but He will do so Himself.

It's right. No matter what we should not judge others, but especially not for their beliefs. We don't have to agree with them. Religion doesn't completely make a person, yes it might have a lot to do with who they are, but it's not entirely who they are. I've had friends of different religions and get along great with them. God will Judge us all in the end, he is the only who can truly judge.

I did not edit before I posted, in addition to some protestants judging Catholics, they judge each other and it is really silly. Satan must jump up and down with glee because we are accusing the believers ourselves instead of living right and denouncing sin and doing our best to bring God's Kingdom on earth. It is no wonder that so many people are struggling.

I've never been confrontational, so that's one of the main reason why I also don't get into debates. Specially religious ones. I often choose to respect other people's beliefs and not impose mine on them. What I do believe is between me and my maker. And I hope that when it is my time, I would be ready.

I avoid confrontations if at all possible, even if it means not standing up for myself. I've gotten better about standing up for myself, but I also am easy to anger and so when I am in a confrontational situation and angry, it's not a good mix. I want to feel I can hold my own, and so I just don't talk about things that are very dear to me if it's going to cause an uproar or add fuel to the fire of one. I agree, we all come from different backgrounds, we may not all agree with each other and each other's beliefs but we need to respect them.

I won't argue either. But I will explain how I came to love my Savior if asked. I do think that we're called to do that, that we're supposed to be able to explain our faith if someone asks (sincerely) and is trying to understand.

If I am being asked in a sincere manner and not in a derogatory manner I will explain. I just don't like to / want to explain how I came to be a Christian to people who are only going to insult me and my Religion.

I agree with you. I am also Christian. I never get into the middle of religious debates for the main reason that I think everyone has the right to their own beliefs. The way I look at it, one's religion is a very personal decision. I was raised with two religions...Christian and Lakota. I was taught to respect everyone's beliefs. Now, the people in my church will probably not agree with me because they are always going on one mission or another to help the "poor people who don't know any better" (their words, NOT mine, so no offense meant to anyone). But I believe that there are waaaay too many religions out there for there to only be ONE right one.

See what I mean? Not getting into a religious debate. We all have our beliefs, and unless we ask for others' opinions, we should be able to go about our business without someone telling us that we are wrong.

See I disagre because if there can't be more than one they all contradict eachother. Also I beleve in missions because we are the body we are supposed to spread the word as Christians to save the souls of the lost thats why I do defend my beliefs as a Christian because the second you quit defending them is the second They can be taken away.

It's definitely hard not to judge, but it IS God's job. If I find myself judging I try to keep it to myself, and not spread it around. After all, then it becomes an insult.

It is very hard not to judge people. some of them do not deserve to be judged but alot of them live their life the wrong way when we know they could do better.

We shouldn't judge. I think we would be very surprised what God really thinks about all of us here on Earth. I live by the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That about says it all. I question established religions. I believe in a more Wiccan way of life. I believe in a freedom of religion. I do not judge, or sacrifice living things or worship Satan. I do not recognize the existence of Satan. My religion is based on nature, and that everyone is responsible for their own actions. Peace, love and tolerance for everyone should be encouraged everywhere. That is what I believe.

It is fruitless to argue about religion, because there is no one hundred precise concrete way to prove that you are right. In fact, a lot of religion debates tend to lead to a lot of nastiness, where is less about celebrating what you believe in and more about bringing down others beliefs. In the end, as long as you believe strongly enough, its real enough for you and that should be true for you. In the end, we might all be completely right in some way, all be totally wrong, or all have bits and pieces, but never completely hammered out what is true. That is one of the things that really will never be proven and obviously some people feel the need to discredit others by tearing down other people for the way they follow their religion of choice. You just believe, who cares if you're right or wrong. No one ever wins and everyone comes away with a bad taste in their mouth.

Giving a reason why you are a Christian is like giving a reason for living. There are so many things you could state but it would just be a waste of time. You are what you are because you chose to be that. I don't care if people judge me since I tend to be judgmental also and you're right, it's hard not to be. But we all know what's right and wrong, we just don't like being told about what not or what we should do. If one truly cares about what God thinks of us, then we should strive to be true christians and follow God's teachings everyday.

Hi. I agree with you. It's really not easy to stop judging people but when you have an open mind and open heart you always take a step back when you do so. Being judged is really hurtful that is why we shouldn't do that to others. Let's just remember that God is always watching us.

I can hold my own in a religious debate. I just find them tedious. There are some sects (and they are in all religions) that either cannot accept that your view may be slightly different, or feel the need to convert you to their way of thinking. The type that refuse to accept that any alternative point of view may have some merit. There is no point having a debate with that sort of person: their stock answer to everything is "You are wrong". Pointless!

I don't like religious debates. It's waste of my time in some cases. Especially when some of the people are radicalist of fanatic. I'm really angry while I talking about something and this other person try to convert me on this person's religion. Sometimes such people are so pushy like telemarketers :). My believes are my business and no one should correct them because they are right for me.

Yes, we cann't stop judging, even if we think we do. We cann't always be happy. That's what life is supposed to be. If we only have the concept of happiness, then it is not happiness. Everything in the world has two sides.
