A little over a year ago, Ithink, I posted a discussion about this lady who had her face ripped off by a chimpanzee. She had gone over to help her friend with the unruly animal and this happened.I was so thrilled to see the lady and her transplanted face. Did you see the update?

I was totally weirded out and debastated for that woman when it happened. That has been about two years. She was on Oprah one day after I had read about it I think. I am so happy for her. She's so pretty, as if nothing ever happened. Weird to say you are glad someone has a face, huh?

It is weird. Face transplants used to freak me out a little bit thinking of them. I guess I pictured that it would look like the person it came from. I did some research on it and it doesn't. Everything changes with the bone structures and stuff. It really looks like the person getting it when they get it.

I do remember the story and your post. It is remarkable what they are able to do these days isn't it. I'd go so far as to say something like this is a down right miracle. She is one extreme lucky lady that she is alive and this all happened in this day and time.
One lucky lady indeed. Thank you for the update. I had not heard of this until your post.

Of course she is I know I would be too if I went through what she has and had this opportunity I'd take it. In our society looks is a main thing. How people think of you mainly goes on your looks. It's not right but it's the way it is. She has had no real life since the attack and now it's like a new life for her.
She is very pretty now. She looks a little different than she was before. But yes, I'm sure she is very happy. Now she is not looked upon as something or someone she is not.

Hi, celticeagle. Yes I read this in the Yahoo news a while back. This is a very extraordinary story here.
This woman suffered an traumatic experience that has led her to be without her senses. I am so glad that she is able to have a new nose, lips and any other body parts that she may have lost. I am so glad that that God has blessed her to heal up quickly. I am am happy to know that the surgeon was able to transform her face back to normal again.

This isn't the first time I've heard of a chimp going on a rampage like that. There was a bad one in California a while back:

I'm glad they are helping this woman, and that she will be able to have at least somewhat of a normal life.

I was just so tickled for her. Such a horrific story. I posted a discussion on it when it happened. Chimps and such like them give me the willies. Never have liked them or thought they were the least bit cute. They are wild animals!

That sounds suprising and aggressive coming from a chimp. I only heard about that time where a famous scientist was living with chimps and observing their behaviour. The thing is though she interfere with their lives. She set up a food box and let them eat. Soon they know the food is in there and they use rocks to break it free. Later they mutilated another chimp from another tribe/clan.

It is pity to see this lady loss her face due to chimpanzee. Seems like chimpanzee sometimes can do some nasty job on us. So, better be careful when visiting zoo, don't ever get too close to any of the animal in the cage. It is good at least this lady was given a second chance to restored back her face. Although the look on her current face would be totally different from her previous original look. But, she should be grateful, finally have a nice face.

I've had to cover this story a few time recently for my job....
And not just her face but her hands too. They did do a hand transplant, but it wasn't successful and they later had to remove them.
I was really sad when I saw her on television last year and she was relating that she wore a veil everywhere to avoid frightening people... I hope that she is able to adapt psychologically to having a new face, even though she is unable to see it.

I just saw it on the news today.A 57 year old woman had a face transplant after a chimpanzee attack that left her a disfigured face, blind, without a sense of smell and hands cut. It's really amazing to look at her with her new face, that seems younger than her age.Her unknown donor must so kind to lend her face. They said it's the only the 3rd face transplant done in the U.S.I wonder how she really looks like before the incident.
