I have turned over a new leaf and though it may slow me a little I am now rating all the time as I respond to others discussions and to others comments. Actually I am surprised that really it only takes seconds and like PPE told me eons back its a good way to show you what discussions you have already responded to. We were told in the guidelines that we all should rate and I admit that a lot of times I was in a hurry and some places the discussions were six to 8 pages long so I mainly rated on a few pages, got lazy ,and went on my merry way. but I do feel we all are supposed to rate and is more of us did than a lot of deserving people would finally see their stars raise like our own Diana here. lets all do more rating and give some of those deserving their blue stars. your take please.

Glad to hear there's one more rating! I am beginning to think that the number of people rating us can be counted on our fingers! It's almost universally forgotten. Yes, it's time to revive this habit.

hi petersum and ravi yes I am now just doing it sort of automatically and it becomes second nature to do it.I am hoping this jolts the newcomers to rate too as some people are just not doing it and it helps all of u s.

petersum: excellent point. Suddenly I remembered your avatar but not name today when I wanted to mention names - after my moving on to blue star. thanks for support of mylot members. I am happy to note that you are reviving the habit of rating. I have been doing it --as you say -- not on a regular intervals. Hereafter I must do it every day minimum 5 minutes.

It is so easy to just rate as soon as you read a discussion or response. It's like second nature to me now.

Hatley, I may not be the most observant person here, but what happened to your star??? Is someone after you? You have been blue so long, that red was a shock to me.. As for Diana, her star went up? I notice PPE is now blue, and I do rate everyone positive, so you got my vote..

hi carm wrote a whole comment and it went bye bye so copy paste on clipboard when I first came I had a blue star almost immendiagelyu as I did an lot of posting b ut one discussion made two men so angy that they minused me all night , everything I had ever written and bro ught me down t o a five. I protested and mylot trapped two men who had spent 23 hours none stop minusing everything I had writtenr just because I had made a discussion about smoking being bad for your health. they were kicked out but my lot only put me up to a yellow eight and all my friends I guess plussed me up to a red nine and I now have 93 percent so another couple points and I will go to ble.lolbut for a long while I had quite rating so now I have started doing it and its become a great way to know what I have responded to without having to lockit u p. lol.

Oh, Hatley, you made a discussion about smoking being bad? How did I miss that, or was it an old one? I also assume when you say admin "trapped" them it means their profile is also gone?? I sure hope so, we don't need their kind here.. PPE, leave to you to hold a revolution!!! You did good..

i dont know. im not understanding most of all that. but i never have rated anyone bad either. so that should count for something. right? i do wonder how it works though since ive noticed it the last few days that some people have one avatar on the email notification, etc., then when you reply to their discussion, the avatar has changed? hows that happen?

I think that is great! Many (like me) have been misrated by people who abuse the rating system, and now have very low ratings when we don't deserve it. We need more people to rate and give us the ratings we deserve. So, I am glad that you are doing it. Also, I think it is easier to rate as you go, so that you don't have to go through tons of pages to rate.

you have it in a nutshell. we must not misuse the minus key only hit minus if the discussion is insu ting or flaming. you are not to minus someone just because they have a different opinion than you do. that is wrong. iN fact if I feel that discussion is really insulting instead of minus I go to report it and let mylot admins decide about it. yes I rate too as I go along then its much easier and faster too

Mostly I rate the discussions all the way through. If the comments and responses add value to the discussion. I always rate the original poster, and that is where I see if I have responded if I come back through again. I do take particular notice of people who contribute a lot and try to make sure to rate them a lot. I hope we all do the same.

hi gardengerty I also hope all of us do the same. I got tired at times when I had a ton of responses but then noticed that it took just seconds and realized this also showed that I really did' appreciate each response I got and since then its become a habit and I have covered the whole page before I realize I have finished rating on that page and can move on.I also notice those who really participate a lot here for sure.

My GOSH, Ms. Hatley, I thought those rules were written in stone! Just timed myself for this 5 Page (great) discussion of your's and it took me 17 minutes for great and enjoyable reading...and everyone is +'d! Course, ran out of plusses for you (daily limit). I have been here a few years, and can truly say, I am religious about plusing comments and avoiding the negs. If I don't concur...just don't rate. I even find myself reading discussions that I don't participate in, and rating them with a plus, cuz I have read them and I feel they contribute! There could be other rules/regs. that I can be tripped up on, but am committed to contributing, even with just my positive rating! Just watching the news, this a.m., and see that several CA beaches are closed due to storms....ARE YOU O.K.? Take care, dear lady!

Nice to hear from you Ms. Hatley! You have so many friends here, I am amazed that you remember any of the likes of me! My dear friend that lived in the Costa Mesa area (which I think is Orange County) passed...but I do have a very special love for that area! (I was the one that was flabbergasted by the opulence of Balboa Bay Yacht Club...did NOT realize there were that many diamonds and blondes in the world.)LOL!! Actually, the first time I was in Costa Mesa, my friends to me to a Lounge called the El Pescador, and I had smoked Marlin for the first time in my life...and it was very good! Now, I have a task at hand....we need to get you back up to a 10, so I will go back and rate your comments in this discussion---as each day I run out of limits on you...LOL! I really DO hope, too...that other's take heed of this discussion! We are now experiencing "wildfires" in B.C.--like your area with the Santa Ana winds, we have had a wet...but windy summer, and all the flora and fauna is tinder dry---and dang, all our fires seem to be started by stupid humans! Hope your day is spectacular! Cheers!

oh how dreadful as thats som eof the most beautiful of lands up there. stupid people who love to see flames, do not they care that the fires b urn down homes and harm wild life.those fires also generate their own winds which makes the fires spread even faster. 'when I w as 23 I was on vacation in British Columbia save Banff and was at a large lake there,oh Lake Louise. gorgeousl we saw some glaciers and all sorts of Moose and oh the mosquito they were huge lol I petted a wild wolf thinking it was a German Shepard that belonged to the motel owners. they were really amused when I told them about petting their dog which they said they did not have. seems this wolf came down each day to forage from their garbage bins. He really did not mind me petting him even though he sort of grumbled in his throat. and thinking he was a dog I shared my sandwich with him, He seemed tol think well of me then. lol. His fur wad greyer and coarser thatn most dogs and oh my he was a beautiful specimen of male wolf. not at all afraid of me. lol.

It is a matter of making rating a habit. I have been doing it for a while now and I rarely forget because it has become second nature whenever I come here. I think it is a great idea to give credit for those good posts that make this one such a fine site. If folks start telling themselves to do it., It will become routine before they know it.

It's a habit for me also. I think it is important to give everyone we comment to a rating. I think some people might not rate because their computers drag along slow or something, so they don't want to take the time. Mine is pretty fast, so I don't mind at all.

So I will take a leaf out of your book and start trying to rate - like you said, it only takes a few seconds, and it can help people a lot.

Hi Ms. Hatley! I always rate people when I answer their discussions. Our Aunt D is so helpful, yet her star is usually down a bit, from what I have seen. I think there might be a lot of people who don't rate at all.. that might have something to do with the percentage of people commenting with rating and overall lower the star. If everyone that commented rated then maybe everyone's star would be higher. I'm just guessing here.. but it makes sense to me anyway.

hi pointeless. yes I really think a lot of newcomers just do not take the time to rate, maybe partly because their internet connections are slow but its important enough for all of us to make it a habit. otherwise all our stars just sit without going any place. just sitting in the same numbers day after day but if we all rated they would move up.

I have always rated all the discussions I have responded to. I can see you have been a member for some time now and very active my friend. I don't know how the star rating works anymore. I have been here for over 4 years and I have gone from a 4 star to a 10 star and back down again. I hoovered around a 8 star for the longest time and then suddenly I had a 9 star but it hasn't moved from there for over 2 years now. I don't really worry too much about the star rating anymore because it seems like no matter what I do it never changes. The number in my star never changes either, it has been a 87 for the last 2 years too. I wish I had a blue star... Cheers and happy mylotting, Chris

My rating in my star has gone from a 86 to a 87 but it took about 2 years to get there. I still don't really understand how it all works. I have to wonder if my rating doesn't move much because I mostly respond to old discussions from the mylot digests and maybe some of those members aren't active anymore so they don't get to rate them as they don't read them.

hi chris the thing is a lot of new ones probably have not had it sunk in that we are the raters and they are also to rate too so it keep our stars moving up. I would so love a blue as have been on red for several years now but its moved up from 84 to 94 finally.and 94 percent is not too bed at all.I don't worry about it as a red 9 will help you earn better and thats what counts with me as I need my earnings.

I always rate those I know. The ones I don't know I am alittle leary of and may or may not rate them. I especially don't rate when someone pipes in on a response from someone else. I still find that a bit rude and don't always rate those memmbers. And it says we don't have to thank everyone.

hi celticeagle I go by q uality of resp;onses not by who it is as thats not necessarily fair. some newer ones are also as good asmy friends.I do rate almost ev eryone except insulters and flammers whom I just report. I often comment on a respnse from someone else as I am told it is okay to do so by admins and by Diana too. It is not rude unless you are being insulting or unkind which I never am at all.but thats just my own feeling. I am just saying a lot of people here are not rating anyont for any reason at all and thats not right. I am not fault finding here I just wanted to make a gentle nudge.sorry if you felt otherwise as thats not my intention.
