Whats in a W ord? Would a nose smell as sweet as a rose?

I was happily typing away on a discussion I made only to notice one word in my title was wrong, I mean really wrong and I had missed it.I think the word was supposed to be down but came out on the finished product the title as done. Which led me finally to remember my great idea. Sometimes like in this title the first letter gets changed accidentally and the first letter is typed wrongly, and the sentence suddenly makes no sense or nonsense. we all know that lots of roses smell sweet but a nose? that sounds like nonsense. Yet we all here in mylot have typed like that and even missed it until it was posted. what is it that makes a intelligent fast typist here still make a discussion or worse yet a title'and miss that glaring error like a nose instead of rose? your take fellow mylotters?

I make lots of mistakes as my fingers are a little stiff - especially in the mornings. I don't mind if people make errors in typing. I will re read my discussion but often it is hard to proof read oneself. I won't be around for another week but just wanted to answer your discussion

Happy Belated Birthday Hatley. May God bless you in His own special way. I frequently pray that you will one day, have your own home with your son again. Every happiness and if you have a little time say a quick prayer for me. I am having a little surgery next week - Dr. is saying that it is not cancerous and I am not too worried but still hope that all is well. Not around much these days. Too much going on in my life. Every Blessing and all good wishes.

Nose instead of rose. I do that sometimes too. I even re-read it before I post and still miss something. I felt silly. We are only human after all. I have seen such horrible English usage on here that your little mistake stands pretty enemic compared to it. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

hi celticeagle yes I read one discussion and reread it then reread it again and nope I had no idea what the person writing it meant. I could see she was not an English speaking person. But the sentences were not even sentences and just did not make sense. Surely if she had an English grammar book she could have looked some of her errors up. She was talking about a man I think cheating on her wife and her did not stop cheatin on his husband. I gave up because the his and her and he and she were not connected to the right persons or at least that is what I thought. Unless she was talking about gay] people o r lesbians. I did not want to give her grammar lessons so I just went to another discussion. I understand we are not to critize people who have English as anothter Language.

I do that too and find it embarrassing especially now that I am taking English and writing classes. Or another thing I miss is not making a letter in capitalization, like my recent post about my scholarship. I put "i won" When I saw the lower case "i" all I could do was shake me head...

carm you would think we would type i as I but I find myself ' pften having to go over some of my lower case i 's.I just found myself dozing here and hit undo and saved what I have written' so far. I find my keyboard space bar sticks at times and at other times double spaces so I have a break in my words. either shesaid or s he s aid either one drives me nuts.So then I go back and separate the words or fill up the gap.My write done for write down really took the cake as I did not see it at all til today 'in the title of my next to last discussion.[

hi ravisivan and ifa yes we do get in a hurry like if we dont get this post posted our fingers will catch on fire or something., My dad used to tell me quit hurrying so , haste makes waste. yes ravi nose is needed to smell roses so got close but not the same. I often wonder why that mean little error hides until y ou have hit post then jumps out at you.grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.If I have only made a couple of errors that got missed, I too will just make a comment explaining what those should have said. if I made a whold jungle of errors I ask to delete it and start overe. and the asmins will do this for you.

Nose is required to know the smell of rose. So Nose and rose are on the same platform though they are not same. Mistakes happen without our knowledge. If there are ways of correcting it we can--otherwise we can post it in our reply comments.

I think sometimes our mind is thinking faster than our typing and that is how the error occurs. With the title of the discussion, I think we miss it because we know what it should read and while we read we skip words. Thus that is how rose ends up being nose. LOL. If we don't read each word that is how we miss the word that should be there instead of the word that we put there. Have a great day Hatley.

hi marylynn I think you are absolutely right as I know I dont type as fast as I think and somehow I manage to miss the one error until after I hit post.,sometimes it makes for really funny reading and I wonder if people do supply the missing letter or just assum that you meant that odd word?

yes I think you are right as in skimming over things we do miss errors as we move too fast.I think we all do what I do as I read a good discussion.I supply the word thats either misspelled or left out.It becomes easy to do as I read so many discussions and I do not want to complain to anyone as I am so apt to make the same errors my self. We all live and learn here and forgive errors and do try to do much better the next time through a post. lol

Hi Hatley, We have a tendency to skim over our words so we can read faster. By skimming we are looking for misspelled words. We don't see a misspelled word so we post. After we post we notice that the wording is wrong. If we would have been reading the entire heading or sentence we would have seen that it did not sound right. I am sure many of us read what someone else types and see that the word doesn't fit, so we put in the word that sounds like it fits. Have a great day. Hugs

AUNTY --Happy birth day to you - Happy birthday to Hatley aunty. Mistakes -- They creep in without our knowledge. I am sure none of us commit mistakes knowingly. It is out of anxiety to post a few numbers within the time we sit before a computer. You can mention about it in the reply comments you are posting or some times others may notice it and post their response.

At least roses and noses both smell. I will however, take the rose. My fingers frequently type what they like, in spite of what I think they should type. I have missed errors until after I have posted. I have also noticed a tendency to read what the author meant even when he put down something else. Funny how our minds and our fingers work.

Hi GardenGerty its indeed funny that our minds are telling us the right things but somehow our fingers hate to obey us like they think its so funny to make those silly typos.I am able to insert the right words into almost any discussion with typos like out minds want it to make sense so they supply the right words. lol

I check my discussion for typos and other errors but STILL sometimes I come out with a sentence or two that doesn't make sense because of a misspelled word. By the way my dear Hatley, happy birthday! I hope that by the time I'm forty I'll be half as active and intelligent as you are right now in your eighties.

Hi Hatley, typo and grammatical errors happen here everyday and such silly mistakes can be quite confusing but being a veteran mylotter I am immune to such errors. With a bit of common-sense we should be able to figure out what the writer is trying to convey. By self correcting the mistakes I don't see why we can't respond to the post intelligently.

hi zandi I think the majority do too as I seldom have ever had someone really say hatley you spelled that wrong or again maybe' they assumed oh heck she has English as a second language so' I must be nice to her. Its not my spelling as I always excelled in spelling but its my dyslexic fingers that will insist on hitting the wrong key. I know I read others and supply any erring letters as I can easily understand what is missing . I never criticize as I am just as quilty as the next person.

Hatley, I used to type 130 wpm with no errors. I used to be a proofreader and copy editor, a medical proofreader and copy editor, so I HAD to be accurate and catch all mistakes and errors. BUT, these days, I'm lucky to type 80 wpm without any errors and I've posted so many posts and discussions with errors that I ONLY catch once it has been posted. I chalk it up to being plain worn out. I used up all the good stuff in my brain and now I'm running on reserves. Being a former proofreader and copy editor, though, gives me an advantage. I'm used to catching things that don't make any sense and change them so they do make sense. So, I never have a problem when I read things here that just don't make sense. If the rest of it makes sense, I can usually "fix" it in my mind. You know, sometimes I fix these things automatically and never consciously realize that there was an error in the first place. So, you don't have to worry about me thinking that your brain has gone bye-bye. I almost never see these typos. Oh, as to the question about how do we miss these things until after they're posted, I believe it's because, when we read them to ourselves before posting, our brains are zooming in on another part of the post and we just gleem over the errors. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

hi mentalward I used to be a fast typist too. medical proofreading would really keep someone on their toes. wow.I usually manage to catch errors before hitting post but in the title to my last discussion I typed write done instead of write down and did not see that error until today. wow.Yes I too can fix errors that others make in my own head so am hoping that worked for done which should have been down. I have been able to read those that scholars have down where just the first few letters are correct lol lol

hi bunnybon oh the lady eat baby that had to be startling and as bad as my telling a mylotter I hated her responses highly of course I meant I rated them highly but that sure was not what I typed and thinking I was all so perfect posted it only to get a private message asking why I was being so insulting to her. I was so puzzled as I was sure I had typed rated but no I had not. I was surprised when I found that that the admins had not deleted it for being so insulting but I hoped my typed explanation on that explained that it was a missed typo.I am now more carefully and proof read almost all the time.

I was astounded as I had written to her response I always rated your responses highly. so I went back to my discussion found my comment and oh my gosh I had written I always hated highly your responses. so indeed I private messaged her and told her I had misspelled rated and indeed it was wrong as I thought the world of her and her responses. lol

hi elicbxn thats a lot like the grammar checker in word at times has given me the wrong form of a word as a correction so that if I paid attention to it my grammar would be ludicrous . I don't know why it does that because at other times it is right on, must be a glitch of some sort.I do not have one of those smartphones, one of my tablemates did and she loved it. lol auto correcting is fine if its correct itself. lol lol

hi chang yes indeed and with me if my blood sugar runs high it makes it hard to keep from making errors. too much sugar bothers our brain and too little sugar also bothers it,in too little sugar you have a hard time just thinking as you get close to passing out.too much makes you type gibberish so its a must to keep our blood sugar levels normal between 90 and 140 always.I usually just proof read then hit post but sometimes the little error hides itself, the meanie. lol

It seems correct in our heads but there are so many things that can go wrong during the process of it being transferred from our brains to the computer. Keyboard error, we could jumble it up in our heads etc. I guess it just goes to show that we should always recheck.
