Picky About Bagging

Lately I have been more and more annoyed about how people bag my groceries and other things. For one I would really appreciate it if they would bag like things with like things, such as make sure they put the refrigerator stuff together, and the freezer stuff together and the dry goods together, and please don't mix my meat in the same bag as a cleaning product. I am also annoyed by the over stuffing of bags. I hate when the bags are so full that I can't slip the handles around my fingers without something falling out, or when I go to get the bag out of the trunk and half the stuff has fallen out, that is especially annoying when it is really cold outside. What are your thoughts on this?

I am personally not that picky but I do like mine bagged a certain way. As long as you keep the heavy stuff on the bottom and the light stuff on the top it's pretty much ok. Of coarse there are certain things that should be separate like bread, eggs, and milk. Those should have their separate bags so the bread doesn't get squished, the eggs don't break, and the milk wont crush other things. I also like to put similar things together but usually that happens because you find them in the same place in the store so they are near each other in the cart and therefore are put on the belt at the same time. It would be nice if they separated the items like you said though. It would make putting things away a lot easier and faster.

It does make it easier and faster, and it is also nice to have all the cold and frozen stuff together so you can bring those bags in first and get them put away before the ice cream melts.

I try and o my part by loading similar things on the counter together, then I watch them, and mention the things you mentioned. I once had a bag break, and all my crap roll down the apt stairs. Aarrgghh.

That is so frustrating, the bags often break on me too, and then the stuff goes rolling down my driveway. I can't tell you how many rolling cans I have chased.

we shop at a grocery store where you bag your own groceries and bring your own bags (here in ontario, canada, they charge 5 cents per plastic bag). by us bagging our groceries ourselves, it saves time and money.

Its not being picky. If you don't do it right something might end up ruined or contaminated. I read a sign at check out line recently and it was promising customers that they will be checked out within a specific amount of time. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with the sloppy bagging going on lately. Still its not an excuse. "Back in the day" the baggers moved like the friggin speed of light and still got it done right! The employers are to blame also because obviously they aren't training these kids.

I agree that it's important for places to bag your stuff right. Although most of the time it seems like we have to bag items ourselves. I am really not someone who is too picky about bagging. In fact, every time I go to Wal-Mart I usually tell them specifically to throw everything in one bag. (As long as it doesn't get too heavy where the plastic might tear of course, though). The check-out gal looked at me and said Really?! like it was the strangest request she had ever heard. Granted I had makeup, cleaning products, and food all in one bag - but it didn't bother me (and doesn't) just because.. it's all wrapped up and stuff. I don't know why some people are so picky about these things. I guess if you are going hard-core grocery shopping, it makes it easier to group together frozen foods with frozen foods, cans with cans, and so on just so it's easier to put away. *shrugs*

Hiya lady, Here we have to bag our own Shopping so if we make mistakes like mixing frozen things with others its up to us. I have to put the Shopping the best way I can. Usually I put all of it into the Trolley and pay for it take it to near the Doorway and then bag everything that way I do not make everyone wait in the line even more than what we have to. Sometimes I have to overstuff bags as they do not have enough of the right size bags either but if I do it then at least I only have myself to be annoyed at which I am not. One thing all the things in Jars I like to put them in myself between things that will cushion them so they won´t smash so easily. Cleaning products I keep them all in one Bag if I can if at all possible. First of all I always check if they could be leaking because a lot of People take the tops off the Bottles then forget to put the tops back on properly again. I picked one up the other Day and turned it upside down to see if it was okay and the top flew off. Luckily I was quick and put the top back on again really quickly and the Girl gave me a huge piece of Paper Roll to clean me up very nice of her too. Bleach is my pet hate as sometimes the bottles are so flimsy and they break just by looking at them so all these go in a separate plastic bag I reuse the bags over and over in this sense.xxx

The baggers here still do a really good job, both at the grocery store and at Wal Mart. I still do not mind bagging it myself, and I also like cloth bags because they are so much better than the plastic ones.

Well given that half of the time there is no bagger around and no lines open when I go to the store, so I really have to use one of those self check out lanes. So I get to pretty much put my bags how I want to. But I get what you are saying. There are times where people just rather put things in the bags, just throwing them in there and they have no concept of weight. I just hope that the bag does not burst before I get the groceries right into the house. I am always crossing my fingers. Especially considering that I like to reuse the bags I get for other purposes, so that is bad. Some people obviously never learned how to bag groceries or if they did, they long since forgotten. So perhaps the self check out isn't that bad after all.

Here in Turkey nobody packs your grocery bags for you- you are given bags while they till up the stuff and you have to pack them yourself. I must admit, coming from a country where it was always done for me, it was irritating and sometimes frustrating to have to do it myself here, but as time went on i began to realise that in fact it is a much better system since it allows you to pack them properly, they way you like it, and i also never have the problem of too fully packed bags, fearing them to break and all the things falling out like i used to be in my country.

Oh yah! I hate it when they do that to me too! You know what happened to my groceries last week? The man put the butter together with the detergent soaps, and I wasn't really paying attention with it coz I knew that he knew what to do and it is common sense! I was paying attention with the cash register. When I got home, I forgot about the butter while I just put the whole bag of soaps at the laundry area. The next day, my cleaning lady handed me the bar of butter that was mixed with the detergents! I got so mad about it because I can;t use the butter anymore. So the next day, I told them what happened and they said sorry and asked me who was the man who packed it. Who knows!? I don't remember. So, I bought the same butter that I bought the day before. When I had to use it, there was lots of mold on it! How can they sell old butter? I checked the expiration date and it'll expire for how many months and I don't know why it had mold on it! Bad luck!

Definately hate this bagging problem as well. I remember one time when the person bagged my liquid detergent, with my fruits and veggies. And consequently, not only did the fruits and veggies get all bruised from the weight of the detergent on top of them, but the detergent also leaked all over them and I had to throw them all out. I have noticed if you ask for paper, they actually bag better than plastic bags...not sure why, but the box dimension seems to help them organize rather than an empty circular bag that flops around.
