Only very rich people can afford a maid in the country where I live, the minimum cost for a maid is no less than 1,000$ a month.

@LadyDuck...Even in the UK, not everybody can afford house help. But it's very affordable in Botswana.

@Lushlala I know that in some countries it is still affordable. We used to have a maid in Italy when I was a kid, now t's too expensive.

I used to have a maid who takes care of our daughter when she was still a kid and the house too . But not anymore , because our daughter is already a lady and is in Manila doing her internship. We all just help each other in the chores at home.

@SIMPLYD I too prefer that everyone pools in...My children do give a hand when they are home , also learn to manage their own homes. Thats why now I am trying not to depend on the maid too much..

@amnabas My daughter isn't into doing the household chores though . We just let her concentrate on her studies since she's a scholar from high school until now that she's already nearly finishing her medical studies .

I do have a maid who washes dishes once a day and sweeps and swabs once in two days...But I do all the cleaning job around the house and I have my work too...In my case my maid lives in our outhouse so no problem, she is always there when I need her ..

This is additional comfort for that she lives in your outhouse but it's too good that you personally also do household chores..

No,I have never had a maid. as I have never felt I needed one. I do it myself, even though it is a struggle because of my back pain, but I just take my time, and eventually get it done.

I've never changed my maid and wonder if that would be my responsibility. Yes I have a maid. I made the bed, I made the dishes clean, I even made some of my furniture from IkeA.

@Tampa_girl7 I know it makes some people very uncomfortable. But here it's very common, and it really help some of these people because it's their only means of an income.

I have a maid, but I am not satisfied with her services. She also does not maintain regular timing. It is causing some stress alright.

no, i guess we never had them - we don't have extra money for them and they are unreliable sometimes, they could even be thieves hiring people is scary these days

@lady1993...That's so true because you just don't know who you're inviting into your space. We've had people here in Botswana whose house help have made away with the contents of their house! Luckily for us, we're always here when our lady comes to work.

Since it's just me and my husband, we have someone come in and tidy up, do the laundry and ironing every Saturday. It's a huge help.

@amnabas Exactly! that's what gives me the biggest headache. As lazy as I am to do the housework, I'd rather have someone wash my clothes and iron them. It's too much hard work hehe!
