I have never seen one and probably never will, sadly the Rio Grande is no longer the river it should be, manmade dams has restricted the flow of water and then farmers use whatever does flow into their irregation ditches to be used for agriculture.

One day those dams will fail and we will have to learn to do without electricity @LadyDuck I just hope I am no longer around when that happens.

That must have been very scary @LadyDuck Here we are facing a possible problem with an old dam in the Arizona area, here in the southwest USA a lot of fools back in the early 1900s wanted to attract people so they created dams to control the waters that flowed down natural waterways. Here where I live water is not abundant and if more people keep moving here soon there will not be enough water for all of us plus our pets and livestock.

Salamander are very slow on the ground, but they can swim very fast. I think the baby was trying to find a safe place to hibernate.

The small ones do not scare me, but the biggest I saw was as big as a small cat, I was a bit scared.

@MALUSE Believe me, it was that big. We both stopped looking at each other and then we run in opposite directions. I immediately searched and I found that most of them are more or less 20 cm (the body only), the one I saw was a little bigger.

I am pretty sure that this little salamander was searching for a place to hibernate. I will see it again in late Spring.

I've never seen a salamander. I don't believe we have them in the UK, though we have newts and some lizards. I didn't realise that they lived in Switzerland, either. What a pretty little beastie!

I was surprised the first time I saw one in the garden, I asked at a local animal shops and they say that they are common in this area.

I haven't seen a salamander only in photos. I always thought they are the same as iguanas but I was wrong.

No, they are very different from iguanas, their skin is soft and they like to stay in the water.

aw, aint it cute?? i nearly fell o'er 'bout a month 'go when i went to dump a horse trough 'n found a pair livin' under it. their movement was most unexpected! first thought was rattlesnake...'course, the camera was in the house 'n once i'd fetched it, they were gone. i've a large'un livin' in the feed barn?? fat lil sucker 'n dunno why its chosen there 's 'it domicile. perhaps fer safety?

I have, I get them in my back yard once in a while. At the bottom of our ravine there is a water source so that might be why. They are always so colorful and interesting to see.
