The Days of Beautiful Writing Paper

When I was a teenager I had an amazing number of penfriends I wrote to all around the world. It started when I was ten and I eventually lost contact with the last one once we all started getting married. One of the things I loved at that stage was buying a wide range of writing paper. Not the ordinary lined plain paper for me! I chose paper with fun designs or images in the corner, a variety of colours and occasionally more expensive paper that I used sparingly. I collected writing paper like an addict. If I saw a pad in the stationery shop that appealed to me, I bought it. Then when I wrote to people I could choose which was the most appropriate paper to write to that person on at that time. Those penfriends days were fun times.

That was trendy during our school days. We had one who had penfriends from all over the globe. I had just one. But today the digital world has made up what I longed to have in those years.

@valmnz I just read somewhere that Internet would end soon. I wonder what I will do then if it happens?

I agree. I often say my presence online in sites such as this is the equivalent of when I had so many penfriends in the 60s.

@allknowing great, we'll all be able to get back on with our normal lives! They've been saying things like that for years. Remember the millennium bug too

Even on the rare occasions that I write a letter these days I do not use writing paper such. I have a template of a personalised headed paper that I can simply print off and use.

@valmnz I found it well worth the effort because I was able to creat6e exactly what I want and the cost is just the price of ordinary printer paper.

@Susan2015 It also comes in handy if any details change, such as the time that I changed my mobile phone number. There was no surplus paper involved because I simply amended the template.

I still have a box of fancy paper. Stationery. I loved to collect it. I wrote to my BFF with it for many years but just recently did away with most of it.

I know the feeling! I still love buying paper to write on., I use it for my novels, stories and screenplays, writing them in longhand first then re-typing them in work on my laptop. Something about using a pen or pencil just stirs the creativity more than going straight from my brain onto the pc... if that makes sense.

Most of writing projects I write by hand first with a pencil in a notebook. Makes a nice change from punching the keys here

@valmnz Yes Indeed! Oh and another thing I meant to mention in my comment. You just don't really see any other paper aside from the lined notebook type or printer paper anymore, at least, speaking for myself, I don't. Of course, I mostly shop at the dollar store for my stationary needs, so the pickings are slim. depending on what they can get in stock.

I love pretty stationery too. I have so many little notebooks and journals - and notepaper. I don't buy it now as I'll never use the pieces I've got but I still like to send notes or letters to people occasionally.

Indoma lot of journal writing and, although I know I should use less expensive journals, I always buy the ones with a pretty cover.

We lived around the world so I wrote to friends when they had moved or we had moved. After years I did not get any more letters from them.

I used to love all the different stationery that was out there. My grandmother had the most beautiful stock! They are not as widely sold like they used to be.

There's something special about pristine writing paper. I love pens as well. Pity my handwriting isn't very neat.

There was more to the art of writing a letter than just the words written on the page, wasn't there

With computers I hardly every do any writing on paper. That's sad. I miss writing with pen and paper. The experience is a lot different than writing on a computer. I don't think I ever collected writing paper though. I wish I had. They are so beautiful and actually make you want to write.

Most of my brainstorming and my first draft work for my other writing is done in a notebook before it reaches the computer
