Gone On an Adventure

I needed a queen sized mattress and box springs for my guest bedroom for the grownups that will be visiting next week.
Let me say that I NEVER get to the posts on the buy-sell-trade sites in time for beds, but this time I did.
It was in a town I am reasonably familiar with, but since we moved the shorter route is different, so I looked it up online.
This daylight savings time makes things really dark really early, and Monday is the long day at work for my husband. He had the truck. Otherwise I would have gone by myself in the daylight.
We got lost, on rural highways, in the dark. We drove an hour away before getting turned around to the correct route. So last night was a short night by the time we returned home.
On the plus side, we got a queen sized mattress and box springs for $20. We had supper at Long John Silver's, which is healthier for me than other fast food.
I am tired today but pleased. The mattress and springs do not match, but the mattress is a nice pillow top. Great for occasional guests.
Hubby went to bed before I did, as I did come online a little while, so it was a short night. It will be okay.

I wish I could find something like this here. The price, the pillow top are both things I would like. I am on an air mattress and finding it is not going to work for me long term. If I rent to own it will be costing me a lot more than I can see putting out. But, I would like to sleep on something uther than this.

I don't know how anyone can sleep on an air mattress for any length of time. We did that for 4 days when we first moved south. not fun.

@AbbyGreenhill ...I was paranoid for a while after we had bed bugs. Scared any mattress would have them. Ugh! I even had bad dreams for a couple weeks after we got them gone. I wrote about in a early discussion. It was horrible. Now I want a real bed. One I can get up off of and that doesn't try to envelope me.

the pillow top you can add later, for 50-100 bucks, but the mattress....we are on and old one that needs repped badly

Yes, I usually am not early enough on the posts to be the one that wins or is first in line. It looks in nice shape, the house it came from was clean and the woman had been given a new bed and just wanted this out of her living room fast.

@GardenGerty On that case you can always hold him to blame for not insisting that you turn around earlier.

@Asylum I seldom blame him for anything. We were fine after we stopped at a Wal Mart and got directions.

No one that comes here is snobbish either. I am rather pleased, but may have to go get sheets with really deep pockets.

I would get one of those big mattress bags and bug killer, spray the mattress and seal it, THEN put sheets on it. Bed bugs are really hard to get rid of.

I will examine it carefully. It is out in the sun right now which is how my grandmother fought bed bugs. I have diatomaceous earth on hand as well.

@GardenGerty does the sun help? never heard that one. But yeah, if you take precautions before you bring it inside, should be fine

I liked it, as it leaves more money for presents.

We sold a spring/mattress that had only been used in a guest room for 65 bucks and that was a bargain. Then the buyer tried to tell me I told him $60 - and he was a pastor at the local church -

It is sad when people try to argue when you have such a bargain.

@GardenGerty Especially when it was a pastor - that really angered me.

The going rate, even used is more like $100 to $150, so I did not mind the lost except it made a short night of rest for hubby.

I do not have company often. Need to though so I would be more motivated to finish unpacking and organizing.

@GardenGerty Invite someone over - that will get you moving.
