Twice Burned Ceramic

I mentioned earlier that I was tempted this year by the Swiss Colony catalogue. Well, yesterday evening, I decided to go online and see what an order would cost while I was waiting for the ground beef to brown. And of course, I became so engrossed by the selections of dainty confections, that I forgot I was cooking dinner. And I burned the hamburger. Well, it will be alright, I thought to myself. So, I added my other ingredients - rice, taco seasoning, tomatoes and green chilies, chicken broth - and left it to simmer into tasty Spanish rice. And I went back to Swiss Colony where everything tastes good and even if the meat is smoked, it's not smokey. So, where was that smoke coming from? You guessed it. This time the whole thing burned dry and the rice was burned right to the pan. I had to open the window and run a fan to clear the smoke in the kitchen. I burned dinner - not once, but twice. Amazingly, my ceramic five quart skillet survived. I washed it out, and the blackened, burned rice came right off. With a little baking soda, there is only a slight darkening of its white, ceramic coating. I love my ceramic skillet. But I have decided that Swiss Colony is dangerous. Stay away from the Swiss Colony. Its delicious pages have hypnotic powers.

As my husband says, you can't cook from the office - you have to be in the kitchen.

Does he say that often? It's very true, of course. But I wouldn't want my husband to say that after I had burned dinner, lol.

@Rollo1 I burned a few things - this house the kitchen is further from the office than our last house - so it happens...but not ruined.

It's the new thing in pots and pans, ceramic coating instead of the old teflon stuff. It doesn't poison you. And it's really amazingly easy to clean.

@Rollo1 I've seen those ceramic skillets but haven't payed much attention. If they are that easy to clean maybe I should look into getting one since mine is old and everything is starting to stick

You've got to be more careful, what if you had started a fire?

I am glad that your ceramic skillet is safe, I also like ceramic pots and pans and I would be upset to ruin one. Did you throw the food in the bin? What a shame!

We ate what wasn't burned onto the pan. It was still okay. But about half of it was lost.

Actually, we did eat it, just skimmed the part that wasn't burnt on. Everyone got a dish or the rice, but I am afraid all the seconds were burnt, wso only one serving each,.

Bummer on that dinner. At least over here when I burn stuff I have chickens or turkeys to throw the awful to. Did you ever buy anything or just munch the paper confections?

There are only a few hours left before it's too late. I need to not buy that stuff, but I so want it.

My husband burnt fudge to a stainless steel waterless cookware pan before Thanksgiving, and did not clean it up. I am still working on the charred remains of crunchiness in the bottom and on the sides of the pan. You got lucky, girl.

At least it is when you are cooking dinner. Tonight I didn't cook anything, I just realize. I am hungry.

I know I have burned things before but I don't think I have burned a meal twice before...lol. I agree, stay away from Swiss Colony! I used to love to look through their books when they arrived in the mail.

I've burned many a dinner by being lost online. So far I've only drooled over that catalog when it came in the mail but so far haven't ordered anything. I'd probably want something from every page LOL

Oops. To allow it to happen once is bad luck but to become so engrossed in naughty but nice things is really bad luck. Someone is trying to save you from yourself!

OMG what a great story. Sorry didn't mean to laugh at your burning misfortune. I have done that very thing. I really need a timer just to remind me to go stir something when I think just one minute on the computer and I'll go stir.

Very funny, but unnecessary advice for me. I set a timer when I cook.
