What is MyLot?

Tonight, amid the Christmas posts, the celebrating posts and the posts aimed to make money or learn to interact, I realize that myLot is a very special place.
I actually have known it for quite some time, but @TheHorse posted a discussion asking about childhood memories and how they affected us.
Some people had sad and horrendous memories that they needed to spill out. MyLot seems to be a safe place for that. Others have very fond memories and myLot is a good place to relive them.
MyLot seems to be a repository of our memories, a garden of our dreams and a witness to our goals.
MyLot is my Alice's Looking Glass or my magic carpet, or a flying dragon in The Never Ending Story. As a site it takes us by the hand, and says "Tell me all about it."

A few years ago, when I was in chemo, I could not be near people on a social basis as my defenses were low. Mylot, the old one, provided me with friends and conversations that kept me happy at a time of pain and fear.

@marguicha I am pleased that you have come out so strong on the other side of your journey. I know you still get check ups, but I am thankful you are still around.

It is much less expensive than visiting a therapist to talk. I think the advice and caring is more "real" as well.

hi@GardenGerty you have described it so bea utifully I feel a lot the same wayIcome here when Im lonley seeking fri ends and finding them,I have ranted and y ou all have listened. it can be a magic
place and I have met some old friends I have really cared about
being bashful as a child was a minor kind of cross and Im sitll
shy in person but not on mylot lol;

It certainly is. And in the myLot world you often find people who have faced what you are facing or who need the support of your advice and experience.

@GardenGerty what a wonderful description of MyLot and how true. I have read happy and sad, and mad posts on here and still don't see a sign of anyone putting anyone else down.. It truly is a wonderful safe place.

I think most users here will stand up for the under dog and report any offensive person, however I also think it is true that we have less of that than some websites do.

I think it's something different to everyone although we all probably have similar views about the place.
Could be an earning site, a learning site, a reading site, a life coach site, a friends getting site...and the list goes on

Most important for me is people who are honest.
It's easy to tell porkies on the net and be someone you're not.
I'd just say be honest and be yourself and then any friends you get are real not basing their friendship on a person you're really not...after a few years you'll get caught out anyway

Mylot is a place where one could share anything about himself and could get views of others. There is nothing wrong in sharing our past and/or current experiences with fellow mylotters.

I absolutely agree with you. MyLot gives safety, friends, a place to vent, a place to meet new friends, etc... It is amazing what this site does for all of us.

I have often felt that we on myLot could contribute a lot to world understanding. We get to see inside the real world of others, not the political propaganda.
