Pip's Diagnosis

This morning I had a vet appointment for Pip. She has aggressive cancer. Surgery is not the answer as it has spread throughout her body. She will be put down, but not until necessary. She still has energy, is eating, and has a good spark of life in her. After talking it over with my youngest, we will wait until it is evident we must put her down. There is no other solution. Surgery would cause the cancer to spread faster. I told the vet I wanted her with me yet for Christmas. I don't know how much longer after that before it becomes necessary to put her down. I will say that considering how much it cost me to put my last dog down and the cost for Pip, Rascal was three times more expensive. Well that's Pip's news. The picture is from Pixabay and is a good likeness of Pip

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that news as it is heartbreaking to lose a loved one like Pip. It is a terrible decision to have to make but you don't want Pip to be in pain and when it becomes apparent then it will be time. I had to do the same about 4 years ago and I cried for days afterwards. God Bless...

@just4him At least you will have Pip with you for a while yet and when the time comes you will be able to say your goodbyes. I know how hard it is to make that decision but you don't want Pip to be in pain.

@sugartoes I know when I put my Cocoa down I couldn't stop crying and I was so depressed or days I felt so sad and of course blamed myself because I had to make that decision. So my family said I needed to find another baby and in time I did.

She's not in any pain which is why we're going to wait. She does limp on her bad leg, but I think that's understandable. I'm already crying. My heart is breaking in two. I had to put Rascal down six years ago and that was hard. He was 14. Pip is 11.

My boss at work is facing the same situation. She found out yesterday that her 12-year old dog has an aggressive form of cancer that has spread throughout it's body. She's going to let him live out his days as long as possible until it becomes evident he is suffering, and then she will put him down. It's always sad to lose a pet that is essentially another family member.

Pip just turned 11 in November. Our pets are members of our families. I'm sorry your boss is going through the same thing. It's hard knowing you're going to lose a member of your family. Even if it is a pet. Pets represent unconditional love.

@Marcyaz It is, and I held it together until I got home and started talking to my youngest about what the vet said. I've been tearing up since.

We had to do this with our old Blue Heeler. He was a marvelous dog and we loved him dearly. But, he had gottten to the point where he just couldn't get around anymore. Poor old dear. This is very sad but I think we need to feel thankful that we have this option now days.

I am so sorry! I really hoped there was better news! My sweetheart Cam has advanced heartworms, we have been watching and waiting, as long as she is happy and not in pain, we delay the end

@sugartoes I think there's a way to tell - a wagging tail, a smile - Pip smiles, and just the way they come to you when they want some love.

Sorry to hear about Pip. My daughter's 12 year old Boston Terrier named Abigail, that I call my "grand puppy", has the same problem as well as other problems that she is needs prednisone for. It will be a very sad day when she needs to be put down.

The pic reminds me of my Lucy. She went blind in one eye and then the other and then her hearing went. She could still wag her tail though. it was dreadful not to be able to communicate with her other than by touch. At the vet's, they said she was riddled with cancer. I held her as she went limp as she went to sleep, then she fell against me as a heavy weight. it was a something I will not forget and i miss her still.

@just4him Lucy was incontinent and struggling to get around a little bit. I just wanted to love my girl and save her from any more discomfort or pain. She didn't complain but her last few weeks she wanted to be inside. It's such an empty feeling when they are no longer there. I sure do feel your pain.

I'm sure you do. I couldn't stay in the room with her when the vet gave her the injection, but I couldn't stay away either. She was gone when I got back in the room seconds later. I cried so hard I had to wait several minutes before I could drive home. It's an unforgettable moment.

@MsTickle Thank you. It's hard. I wanted to hold onto her as long as I could. Here is a picture of Pip. The one in the picture is from Pixabay. I took a full disposable camera the day before I would put her down.
