Saying cheerio for the moment - have a great Christmas

We've been out to tea with good friends tonight. We helped them stuff a spinnaker for a yacht into a sleeve then into a container. They sailed around the world for around six years in an aluminium yacht that they built themselves. They have now sold it and it should be off their property by soon after New Year. We had immunisation shots against shingles this morning and so far don't even have a sore arm. Just a sore wallet - $200 each! We fly out tomorrow for Melbourne to join our son for Christmas. I won't be taking the laptop so have a wonderful Christmas everyone and we'll see you when we return on Sunday.

Have a lovely Aussie Christmas, July, even if it's summer there and feels like summer over here.

@Hatley @marlina My friend was in hospital for a week with it. I know it's very painful. Once you've had it it can recur any time your immune system lowers a bit. I think it is worth having the shots.

Wow, I wonder how hard it was to build that boat.

Thanks for adding that photo @JudyEv I can't believe how neat that aluminum boat looks. Do they know if it's still floating?

Was there a photo on this post? I couldn't see but I've added one now in case it went missing. It did take them a few years. We converted a big bus into a mobile home but that was nothing compared to this.

It's a long flight, you are on the west coast and Melbourne is on the East. Have a safe and pleasant trip.

It is four hours over and 4 1/2 back because of headwinds so they tell us. Nothing like heading to Ireland though

@JudyEv It's long, but not too long. From Nice (France) to New York it takes 7 hours to go an only 6 back because of headwinds.

It is so expensive and is only given to those over 70 but it is free here in the UK.

I'm glad we've had it even if it did cost. It is good that it's free in the UK.

Thanks. We had a nice time with our son. A relaxed quiet day as it was very hot. On Boxing Day we helped with some DIY at his place.

Have a wonderful Christmas! You were wise to get that shingles shot. I got one as soon as I turned 60 because I have had several friends who got the shingles. In one case, the shingles went into our friend's spine. Now, he drags one foot when he walks. He has gone to a number of specialists, including the Mayo Clinic, and they all said they could not help him. The shingles did permanent nerve damage.

It can be quite dreadful in its effects I know. We've had no after-effects luckily bar some slight discomfort if we lie on the spot too long.

Wishing you a wonderful time with your son. I should get one of those shingles shot as I had it before and they say that one can get it again. Very painful in the eye. Ouch!

Once you've had shingles it can recur whenever you get a bit rundown apparently. I know it's extremely painful.
