What is a 'post' at myLot?

Post is really a bad word. Post describes anything that you write. It also describes the action of doing it. You post a discussion. You post a response. You post a comment. But all three of those items are also a 'post'. A post is not only a discussion. In the Earning FAQ section, it says: How do I earn money exactly? - It's simple... Just participate! Any time you start a discussion, respond to a discussion, or comment in a discussion, you are making a contribution that is eligible for earnings. The word 'post' can be substituted for the word 'contribution' here, because it refers to all three items. It also says: The more that other myLot users interact with what you post, the more money it will make. Here, the word 'post' is being used as a verb to describe the action of posting...and once again, this can be a discussion, comment, or response. So if you are talking about a 'post' you make here, it could be beneficial to readers if you instead use the word to describe what kind of post you are talking about.

Why would I want to be descriptive when I can be vague and let others use their imagination to try to determine what I mean?

What happened to good, old-fashioned posting a letter? Or "mailing a letter" in the US, I guess...

Yet the term 'postman' and 'mailman' are interchangeably used here, and it is the post office, rather than the mail office...go figure, them 'Muricans are weird

To be honest, I'd rather (sometimes) that people just shut up and write instead of writing about writing (if you see what I mean). BUT I should stress, I'm not talking about THIS post.

I've found the confusion can come when new members are asking for advice and the term "post" can get misunderstood.

Depending on how it is used, the word, post, can be either a noun or a verb. Therefore, write a post and post on other posts. Then respond to posts on you posts. Got it?

That is why I try to refer to discussions, comments and responses. Unfortunately the site calls comments and responses exactly the opposite of how I think of them. It does not matter, though, I can call them "George" and still earn with them.

Great response you gave to the question. I've been gone from my lot a long time, approximately 5 years. Decided to see if my account was still here and it is. Now I need to learn the site again.

@JolietJake If you were on a horse and trying to look good at riding a trot you'd be posting. So if I answer you am I posting a horse and not falling off?

Yes, I've been guilty of that and people have misunderstood me as i've just used post as a coverall term for anything written and many people see post as meaning a discussion.

You have explained it very well. However, it is to be kept in mind that there are many users whose native language is not English, so if the word 'post' is used uniformly for everything e.g. discussion, comment or response, they could get bit confused. It would be better to elaborate what we wish to convey - e.g. I posted a response to your discussion; Your comments on my post (here post is discussion) are praiseworthy.

I appreciate what you are saying but I don't let it bother me too much. 'Post' is much shorter to type than 'discussion' so I tend to use post instead of the longer word.
