Oh no, lost another door key card

The rooms here at the Kremlin Palace in Lara Beach operate with the electronic key cards instead of an actual metal key. This is a very practical system but does have one major downside, the cards are too easy to misplace. I was issued with 2 cards, which operate the door and also activate the power supply in the room. As a matter of form I leave one card in the power meter and take the other with me when I leave the room. The card fits quite neatly into my shirt pocket, along with my mobile phone. The card has a habit of coming out of my pocket when I take out my mobile phone and on Saturday I realised that I had lost my card. It was soon rectified by notifying reception, who happily issued me another. Annoying I came out of the dining room yesterday and suddenly realised that I had misplaced another card. I was very reluctant to inform reception that I had lost another card, but had no real choice. Fortunately a different person was on duty, otherwise it would have been quite embarrasing.

We've been there, done that! Are you taking extra care now - in case there isn't a third receptionist?

I certainly am. It turned out to be a formality, but I was very apprehensive at first.

@Asylum I'm sure it happens all the time but that isn't much comfort when it's happening to you.

I do understand the whole card key thing, but they are easy to lose. I have done it as well.

It can be so annoying to realise that it has gone missing, especially 2 consecutive days.

I've never used one of those but I do have to be careful with my credit card when I put it in my pocket with my cell.

Mine credit card and travel pass are in a small wallet, which fits into my shirt pocket but is too heavy to be pulled out by accident along with my mobile phone.

That sounds like something I should do @Asylum if I keep it in my pocket but I usually keep mine in my purse

usually any credit card sized card in the electricity slot will operate the lights so I usually jut put an old defunct store card in the slot on getting to my room and just take it out as I leave and check out again

This varies from hotel to hotel, but will not operate the door.

@Asylum you do need to keep hold of the one that operates the door of course

So keep it somewhere else. I carry a purse (sorry). It has a small pocket in front with a zipper. I keep my car keys in there. I also keep the hotel room key in the same pocket. Not likely to lose it.

@Asylum Men. You wear so little, and are so comfortable in your clothes, but we have places to put things. It's a trade off I guess.

I wonder what your hotel bill will look like when you go to check out. So you are paying for your room AND your power? Ugh!

No, the power is included in the room cost. This system is purely designed to stop people from leaving electrical equipment running when they leave the room.

My office does not issue a replacement card unless we pay for the lost card. It is a pain, but the replacement fee is enough to make us careful about it.

I did expect that the hotel may have a charge for replacements, but apparently not.

I buy a card holder that goes around my neck on a long cord when I go on a cruise, it keeps my card safe and attached to me.

I have never considered using one of those, but I have seen the holders that you refer to. It is easy at home to carry cards because they all fit into a small card wallet that I carry in my jacket pocket, but in Turkey I never wore a jacket.

@BelleStarr I does seem a very practical approach and one that I may consider for any such future situations.

@Asylum I love wearing the lanyard, it is easy and safe but that is me. I used to put it in my purse and I demagnitized it several times so decided to go with lanyard,

Let's hope that the one who find the card do not know which door it opens.

@Asylum Do you remember the cat you moved out from your room? He got your key so he can come back when you are outside.

When I give some special safety to my personal things , I always forget it and it is difficult to recover for me than others. I think more safety methods are perplexing.

I carried the card in my shirt pocket along with my mobile phone, which I use as a watch. The card has obviously come out of my pocket along with the phone and I did not notice.
