Make YOUR opinion heard right here! (suggested by myLotBugs)

Attention: myLotBugs responded to this discussion yesterday with the decisions. Thanks to those that had previously responded. There have been a few changes made to some sections available by clicking 'explore' in the new version. Top Rated Discussions - these discussions used to be limited to discussions posted in the past 24 hours...now, discussions can be as old as 72 hours and still make it on this list. Hot Discussions - these also used to be limited to discussions up to 24 hours old, but now (according to myLotBugs) a discussion appears here if it has a large number of responses/comments within the last 24 hours, regardless of when it is created. Now, myself, I preferred the old '24 hour' rule...especially regarding the 'Top Rated' category, because I thought it gave more users a chance to have a discussion reach the top of that category (thereby giving it more visibility) vs having the same discussions possibly listed there for up to 72 hours. But that is only my opinion, and I am one person. It was suggested to me that I try to get the opinions of other users, and see what the community, as a whole, would prefer to see as a 'limit' set for discussions under these topics...so here is your chance to give your voice/vote if you wish to be heard. Also, the possibility of a 'new' category has been suggested...which would actually be something from the pre-2013 version of the site. While currently, you can see all the activity of people you follow by clicking 'people' on the old version and 'follows' on the new one, there is no way to see the current activity (responses/comments) of all users. Therefore, depending on how many people would be interested in it, there could be a return to a list showing 'recent activity' from all site members, regardless of if you follow them or not, by clicking a link. This would be an additional category, and would not change any lists you currently use. So basically, 3 opinions are wanted here: 1. How long should discussions be eligible for the 'Top Rated' list 2. What discussions should be eligible for the 'Hot' list. 3. Would you like an option to see a list of the recent responses/comments from all members of the site. (It was suggested to me by a member of Admin to start this discussion. As such, I would ask some of you to share it with other members so we can get the largest representation of opinions from myLot users) Sorry for being a bit long-winded here, but it is hard to lay all this out in a short discussion. Thanks for reading...and now, let yourselves be heard. myLotBugs reply can be found at this link:

I'd like the hot and top lists to go back to how they were before. 24 hours is plenty of time. I'm embarrassed that my latest post is still on the 'top' list and it's about 60 hours from when I posted it. All it will do is make people fed up with seeing it, as anybody who wanted to read it would have done so by now. I woiuld welcome a list showing everyone's recent activity - that way I may find people I didn't know existed.

@jaboUK Yes, we can find new people if there is a list showing recent activity of everyone here.

72 hours is to long. You start to think it is all the same people and do not brother to look any further.

Yeah, 72 is just way too long, but I am glad to hear it from someone that has been at the top, I wasn't sure what the people that had been there that long would think. I always liked 24, 36 I could handle, but 72 is just too much altogether in my opinion.

I think that a shorter time for the Top Rated would give more people the chance to appear there. It does get a bit stale seeing the same posts there for longer than before (even if they are mine). The Hot list was fine like it was before. I would LOVE to see the old 'recent' activity' come back. It was the list that I used the most in the past If there is a chance to suggest something new, I would like a list of the most recent new users who have registered to be available somewhere too.

You'd do better making the suggestion to Bugsy, but... I think a lot of us would like to see that 'recent activity' back...I don't use 'follow' myself really, so I'd like to have it to see who's out and about

@JolietJake Ok if ever he asks for suggestions I will do so. I don't like bothering him but I just sent a message after I saw a discussion about a problem I am having too. The Recent Posts page just keeps on loading today, making it difficult to see the older posts that were posted when we were not around.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Here are the changes we've made. We can always change this again later if necessary. Top Rated -- Most likes for discussions created within the last 24 hours. Hot -- Most responses within the last 24 hours, regardless of when the discussion was created (i.e. no change, but now showing results that are different from Top-Rated). Recent Activity - Going old-school and bringing back this page from pre-2013. It now appears in the Explore drop-down. Let me know if it's slow in responding, but so far so good.

Why not just merge Top Rated and Hot discussions? They are mostly the same anyways. Select those who have higher visitors (note visitors not responses/comments since some just comment and not respond to the main discussion which mess up the no of responses) over the past 24 hours. And about recent responses and comments. It's already a long list scrolling through so many discussions. Wouldn't it become more troublesome? Maybe just limit them to a time frame of an hour or two. I think 24 hours limit wouldn't work here. Also maybe just select the comment or response that are mostly interacted with. And put it in the Popular category. That is what I came up with...

I don't see how it would become more troublesome, since it would simply be a list with the latest response/comment posted at the top...it would be a separate list, and one that no one would be forced to use, so I don't see how it could be troublesome to anyone.

@Daljinder I don't think hardly anyone would want to scan it back that far, since it would be used to see what was going on right now and not what had been going on hours ago...

@JolietJake No I didn't mean that it would be in general. Okay um... like just now I am commenting here and at the same time several others are all over the world. That means they all would get listed in that category right? I am just saying if we count for last 24 hours uh.. it will be a loooong list.. Hope I explained it right...??

I tend not to look at the Top Rated and Hot discussions because they are often rubbish discussions about the time of day or what food is being eaten. I look at Most Recent and occasionally New Users and No Responses.

Maybe I am not in the right discussion but it is taking WAY too long for discussions to load..those 3 ball thingys just keep going around and around in circles. Omg so frustrating. I could have responded to dozens of discussions by now if not for that. Well yeah I think the 24 hour rule is good no more than that. What is hot? I dont know really whatever is popular I guess. I am not one to say what is hot. I dont really care about option to see comments and responses at this time.

I have to say that I appreciate having a voice in the say of things. That is refreshing. I would like to see a 24 hour turn around time on the top topics, and I also wonder if the hot topics and top rated discussions couldn't be put together into just one-but with a new name so nobody thinks that they're missing something. Just a suggestion because I could never really figure out the difference there. And I would think that the hot topics should be discussions that generated the most responses. As far as seeing the activity of all members, I think that for me, that would be too overwhelming, I would find that a turn off. I would like to congratulate and thank you for putting together this discussion, and moreso, for taking away from it what you will. You did a great job here, and I appreciate it-thanks!

Thanks. I think the third one could actually show a person things they wouldn't normally see, that might encourage them to comment to themselves, but that is just me...I'm sure many users wouldn't be interested in it. I tossed it in there just to see if it would be worth developing as an idea.

I like the idea of discussions making the hot list if it get large numbers of responses no matter when it was created. But a hot list and a top rated list are very very often almost identical. So to me having both lists is not necessary. I like the idea of an option to see a list of all recent responses. I also think that 72 hours is way to long, 24 hours seems just right. Replace either the hot list or the top rated list with some other list, although at this point in time I don't have a suggestion for a replacement.

I think if we had the 'recent activity' list available, it could change the way the other two lists appear. Making the 'Top' back to 24 hours old only, and leaving the 'Hot' open for any discussion receiving lots of activity could make them quite a bit different, especially if we are drawn to discussions we see others participating in through the 'recent activity' list.

@fishtiger58 That is likely why I do not use those lists. I am so slow to change, though, that I have not gotten used to coming to this new myLot. It is so much nicer, but I just do not seem to change over.

@JolietJake I don't mind the hot and top rated if they were vastly different, but as of right now they are almost identical. So if that could be changed so the two lists are different that would be good. Make it so more discussions get there not just the same ones in a different order.

72 hours is too long. After checking most recent I also check top rated and hot discussions, which sometimes actually have some same posts.

@JolietJake so maybe they really have to shorten to 24 hours the top rated and if a post still gets many responses for the last 24 hours even if it was made days ago, it really must be a hot discussion.

(i) and (ii) I think 24 hours is the right limit for a discussion to be listed in the 'Top Rated' category. (iii) I would like to see the activities of my followers and whom I follow. I am not interested what 'everyone' has been doing here.
