Evil, Sick, Insane

If you live in the US you may be hearing about or reading about a mass shooting in my area. A man drove to his place of employment just before second shift and opened fire with an AK47. This was after randomly shooting at cars and people all the way between the town where he lived and the town where the Excel manufacturing plant was. He ran someone off the road and stole their vehicle as well. Gun laws did not stop him. He was a convicted felon. A young woman who knew this sold him two guns. Mental health did not stop him. He lived in a community that is known for mental health programs. Churches did not stop him. We are very much part of the Bible belt. We have a strong presence of many religious groups. Love did not stop him. His anger was triggered because his girlfriend filed a protection from abuse case and he was served at work. Indeed, that seems to have been the trigger for this spree. Brave public servants who responded quickly, whether off duty or on, stopped him. The police chief had to shoot him. The public helpers picked up the pieces, they applied tourniquets, they transported the fourteen injured people from the scene. The communities around joined together in prayer, in remembering the three other dead people. As one young man who took four rounds said, from his hospital bed, his heart went out to the shooter. This is where I am from. These are the people I live with. They do what they must, and help their neighbors. The stand in the line of fire, they pray, then they pick up the pieces.

Prayers for all involved and healing for your community. When I hear of stories like this I am always reminded of the verse from Jeremiah, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (17:9 KJV) Being a former EMT I have witnessed some of the horrors of wicked hearts. God help us.

Thank you, Dena. I am convinced that this is the result of hearts that are sick.

@Jessicalynnt This is what happened to a 78 year old woman. He blocked the road, she had to stop. He came to her car and shot the window out because she would not get out. She lay down across the console as flat as she could. Other cars came up and he accosted them, the older lady did a UTurn and got to a place she could hear the sirens coming. She got help. But she also literally ducked, praying all the while.

We never think that this will happen near us. Anywhere it happens it touches us, but this is very close.

The town where he started is a place we shop often. Locations named are places we know. He pulled over and tried to kill a 78 year old lady to take her car. She believes her faith saved her.

I heard about this terrible shooting and have to pray for those people. I doubt if this type of thing will ever stop as we hear these type of stories all the time lately it seems like.

Very sad. I hope that there are not protests about the use of deadly force against the man.

@GardenGerty Glad to hear he's being hailed as a hero. I would not want to be a cop right now.

I did hear about it and it is horrible but still as much as it happens now, no one must actually feel that the person they are seeing would actually do something like that! It's time to start believing and watching closely so they can report it.

It is a shame, but yes, we have to have a guarded attitude and know that just about anyone can go over the edge.

I have no words. It is very sad when a person who is a danger to himself and others is given a weapon and chance.

It is very sad when our own inner demons let us hurt people that we are supposed to love, or coworkers that we are supposed to like and that get along with us fine, most days. It seems to get more and more common.

Sometimes, if they come back, they come back even crazier. But yes, if they want to fight and kill it should be others who are armed and fighting as well.

I am sickened and sorry and send my condolences. There is no way to understand this. Just west of the mountain range that divides me from the West a man murdered most of his family then dispatched himself. I don't know. Take care.

Things like that are hard to understand and hard for communities to deal with.

There is. This is small town, Kansas, America. People who say, "I am not a hero", everyday people who donate time, and energy, people who say that they are praying.
