It Doesn't Look Like Orange

I am a hyacinth fan. I love the smell of them, they remind me of lilacs. I love how there are bunches of flowers on one stem. And I love how long they last in the garden. I have had hyacinth for 2 or 3 weeks after they bloom. Maybe even longer. About 4 years ago in the fall my husband and I were looking at flower bulbs at store in our area and we saw a package for orange hyacinth. Now being the huge fan of hyacinths that I am, I had to have these as I had never seen orange ones ever. The picture of the hyacinth on the package showed a gorgeous deep orange colored hyacinth. So my question is did they color the package, because mine have never gotten that orange. More like a peach or a light salmon color. And maybe this orange is a hybrid or something because it's not nearly as hardy as the others I have. So we started out with 6, and last spring we were down to 3, not sure yet how many we will have this spring. Doesn't look deep orange does it?

I know what you mean @fishtiger58 I've never actually seen hyacinth's except in pictures so I don't know what the norm is but I love the pale coral color of this one.

@rebelann They smell like a lilac just heavenly, I have at least 45 hyacinths blooming in the spring, I open my windows and it's all I smell. They are by far my favorite spring flower.

You always have the best photos. You had a lot of them on Gather. You were on Gather, right? I believe that's where I first saw you.

No, but they are lovely. I hope you have even more than expected this year. Knowing nothing about gardening or flowers, is it possible they could spread?

Hyacinths always spread, but of the 6 we planted only 3 came back after the first year. We shall see what I have as soon as they bloom. I hope they recover and start to spread. All my other hyacinths have spread like crazy.

No, it doesn't look deep orange. Has it got paler over the years? Maybe there is something in the soil as hydrangeas change colour according to the soil type.

@fishtiger58 Sometimes photos come out a bit different colour too. Or the photo on the packet could have been photo-shopped to make it more attractive.

@JudyEv I'm betting on the photo shopped pic on the package. I wish they wouldn't do that. You see it all the time especially with what they call a black flower. They always grow purple.

No it was always this color even though they showed a deeper orange. I was thinking maybe as the years go on it would get deeper orange but that hasn't happened.

It looks like a very nice shade of orange to me. The package may have been touched up a little. I like the shade you have.

I would call that salmon pink - it looks lovely whatever colour it's supposed to be.

I've never seen orange hyacinths and although the one in the picture is really pretty it isn't a deep orange. I bet they would have been brilliant in color if they were what you expected

I have never seen orange ones either and was super excited when I bought these. I keep hoping that one spring they are going to pop with the color I expected but I still like these.

I'd say it's orange...ish. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe? I'd be curious how other bulbs from the same lot grew... are they all that different than the packaging?

I think most grew the color they were supposed to. I think they just showed a deeper orange on the package than they really were. I love them but wanted more orange.
